Abstract
Within the main vessel used for prepn of the culture is a rotor with a spiral surface based on winding sheet material about the horizontal shaft so that there is a constant gap between adjacent turns and then by enclosing the ends between cheeks with holes at the radius of the inmost layer. The shaft is esp. hollow with pipework for circulating heating or cooling media and is driven from outside the vessel at variable speed and direction the shaft gland being a sterile seal. The material of the spiral may be plastic, esp. polycarbonate, silicate glass or steel covered with glass enamel. Alternatively the rotor may consist of a number of spiral coils of glass tubing laid against each other and welded together. Ease of sterilization between batches and of maintaining sterility.
Description

The invention relates to a special embodiment of the device described in claim II of the main patent. The device described there consists of a spiral-shaped wound surface which is arranged in a preferably lying container and can be rotated about its horizontal axis. Some plastics have proven to be suitable as material for these surfaces, but the best results have generally been achieved on glass surfaces. However, the implementation from a curved glass plate is technically hardly possible, so that other ways had to be taken for the practical implementation.
The additional invention consists in that the surface of the spirally wound surface consists of silicate glass.
The idea of the invention can be implemented, for example, in that the spiral surface is made of metal, preferably sheet steel, and is then covered with glass enamel in a manner known per se. Another embodiment consists in that several exactly identical spirals made of glass tube are bent and then placed on top of one another in a matching manner and fused together at their contact lines to form a single body. In both cases the spiral surface consists of glass, which has proven to be the most suitable surface for tissue engineering.
Even if the embodiment fused from spiral tubes has an uneven surface due to the manufacturing method, this has no disadvantages in practice. A correspondingly shaped design of the scraping tool can be used for cleaning, so that the grooves between the individual pipe bodies can also be cleaned with certainty.
PATENT CLAIM
