Abstract

The watch face is made by attaching a thin wafer of mother of pearl to a backing plate using translucent elements between the two, with the rear surface of the mother of pearl wafer, facing the backing plate, being coated with a protective varnish. A double-sided adhesive tape is then inserted between the backing plate and the mother of pearl wafer, to secure the two together. The luminescent elements, which may be tritium, are visible through the mother of pearl wafer in low ambient light conditions, to indicate the dial numerals. The varnish, applied to the rear surface of the wafer, may be coloured.
