The invention relates to a device for securing the folding apparatus of rotary printing machines by automatically severing the paper web and shutting down the machine if a folded product is missing at a monitoring point in the folding apparatus.
Various devices are known for securing the folder using reflex heads, which have the disadvantage that the lens system is fogged up by the paper dust occurring in the folder, so that the reflex heads lose their functionality. The operating personnel must therefore repeatedly clean them by hand.
Further disadvantages of these reflex light barriers are that they require a point that is as reflective as possible on the printed copy or the cylinder and that they have a relatively long response time. In addition, precise alignment of the reflex heads with the reflective surface is necessary.
The invention has set itself the task of creating a device which avoids these deficiencies and at the same time requires less effort and a longer service life.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that an opening is provided in an area of the jaw cylinder jacket that is covered by the folded product, through which a light guide receives an impulse from a light source arranged above the cylinder if a folded product is absent, and it passes through a longitudinal opening in the cylinder axis center of an outside of the folding device side frames coaxially arranged photocell.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the light guide can consist of a glass fiber optic from a mirror arranged below 45 or from a prism. The exit of the glass fiber optics from the cylinder jacket surface lies in one plane with it.
In addition, the photocell and the cylinder axis with the exit of the light guide element can be covered by a cap against scattered light. A normal lamp with high light intensity and long life can be used as the light source.
The entire system has a simple structure, is functionally reliable and, when using glass fiber optics, on whose light entry the folded products lie exactly like on the cylinder surface, cannot become dusty.
The photocell can also pass on its signal to cut the paper web and shut down the machine via a control unit, which negates the signal if the folded product is not available according to the program.
This device has the advantage that, for. B. when collecting once or twice, in which only every second or third segment receives a folded product on the jaw cylinder, the device remains functionally reliable in a simple manner.
An embodiment of the invention is shown schematically in the drawing.
The jaw cylinder 1 is rotatably mounted in the folding apparatus side frames 2 and 3 and has two or three jaws on its surface in a known manner. The folded product 4 shown rests on the cylinder jacket 1, 2 or 3 times, depending on the number of folding jaws and the respective production.
In the embodiment shown, a lamp 5 is arranged above the folded product 4, the light rays 6 of which impinge on the folded product. If this does not occur due to a malfunction in the folder, the light beams 6 hit a light guide 7, in the example shown a glass fiber optic which exits through an opening 8 of the jaw cylinder jacket 9. The light guide 7 directs the light pulse through a longitudinal opening 10 in the center of the cylinder axis to a photocell 11 arranged outside the folder side frame 2, which then gives the signal to cut the paper web and stop the machine.
In order to prevent the fiber optics from getting dusty on the cylinder jacket surface, the exit of the glass fiber optics lies in a plane with the cylinder jacket surface, so that the respective folded products remove any paper dust that may hit it.
In order to avoid incorrect switching of the photocell due to scattered light, the photocell and the cylinder axis with the exit of the light guide element are covered by a cap 12.
So that it is possible to use only every second or third signal from the photocell to cut off the paper web and shut down the machine, the photocell is followed by a known control device that is not shown separately in the drawing.
