The present invention relates to a process for the production of ternary copolyamides which contain the monomer units of polyamide 6, polyamide 12 and of polyamide 6, 9 or polyamide 6, 10 in a random distribution in the macromolecule, as well as the ternary copolyamides obtained therewith.
Ternary copolyamides are known, e.g. the copolyamide of caprolactam, hexamethylene diamine adipate and 12 aminostearic acid (DRP 5369), nylon 6/6, 6/6, 10 (USP 2,420455), nylon 6 / 6,6 / 12 (Switzerland. P. 491 150 and nylon 6/6 , 6110 (Switzerland. P. 482 756). Such ternary copolyamides can be used, for example, as a powder, as a thread, as a melt and as a film for textile bonding. All these polyamides are characterized by good resistance to the usual chemical cleaning agents.
However, depending on the proportion of the components, they all have a relatively high water absorption capacity. This means that when the textiles bonded with these copolyamides are cooked, the adhesive strength decreases sharply. The washing resistance of textile bonds with copolyamides decreases with increasing water absorption capacity of the copolyamide at the washing temperature. As a rule, the water absorption capacity cannot be predicted from the percentage of the monomer components and the water absorption capacity of the corresponding homopolyamides, because a synergistic effect is often found.
For example, the ternary copolyamide, made from 33% caprolactam, 33% hexamethylenediamine adipate and 33% of the salt of p'p'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane and adipic acid, absorbs 15-17% water at 20 C and when stored in water.
It has now been found that ternary copolyamides of the types nylon 6/6, 9/12 and nylon 6/6, 10/12 are characterized by a very low water absorption capacity and, as an adhesive, result in a stable bond, for example of textiles. This superiority over e.g. the known nylon 6/6, 6/12 is paired with greater economic efficiency in production or use, since a smaller proportion of the expensive nylon 12 component is required for the production of ternary copolyamides according to the present invention. The polyamides can be prepared from 25-80% by weight of e-caprolactam, 10-65% by weight of hexamethylene diammonium azelainate or hexamethylene diammonium sebazinate and 10-65% by weight of laurolactam.
When these copolyamides are used as adhesives, a washable bond with good resistance to chemical cleaning, e.g. in the front fixation between coated linings and outer fabrics. It is necessary that the beginning of the melting temperature range of the ternary copolyamide used is at least 10 ° C. higher than the temperature of the washing liquor used.
The production of the ternary copolyamides of the types nylon 6/6, 9/12 and 6/6, 10/12 takes place in a simple and known manner and does not require any additional measures (cf. Switzerland. P. 482 756 and 491150 and Switzerland. P.
512 536. The e-caprolactam can be completely or partially replaced by E aminocaproic acid. Polymerization is carried out at 250-300 ° C., preferably at 270-280 ° C., for at least 8 hours and in particular for 8-15 hours. It can be operated both without pressure and - especially when adding water - under pressure. It is also possible to shorten the duration of the polymerization by applying a vacuum. One component or two or all three of the above components can be replaced by the corresponding homopolyamide in the same amounts in the production of the copolyamides. The transamidation takes place under the same conditions. as used in ordinary polymerization.
Nylon 6, nylon 6, 9 or nylon 6, 10 and nylon 12 can thus be transamidated to give the desired ternary copolyamides. The different process variants can e.g.
be carried out continuously in a VK pipe or discontinuously in an autoclave.
The molecular weight of the ternary copolyamides can be regulated in the desired sense in a known manner by adding chain growth regulators during the polymerization or poly-condensation and during the transamidation, if homopolyamides are used as starting materials. There are e.g. organic carboxylic acids, in particular sebacic acid, in an amount of preferably 0.5-1.7 mol%.
In a known manner, the copolyamides according to the present invention can be mechanically comminuted with refrigerants to powder for adhesive purposes, processed by extrusion into films for adhesive purposes, also from solutions in known polyamide solvents into films for adhesive purposes and by extrusion into monofilaments or threads for fleece bonding.
The present invention accordingly relates to a process for the production of ternary copolyamides 6/6, n / 12, where n means 9 or 10, which is characterized in that 25-80% by weight of E-caprolactam and / or E-aminocaproic acid or a homopolyamide made from it, 10-65% by weight of hexamethylenediamine zelainate or hexamethylenediamine sebazinate or a homopolyamide from azelaic or sebacic acid and hexamethylenediamine and 10-65% by weight of Nc laurolactam or a homopolvamide obtainable from laurolactam are heated to 250-300 qC for at least 8 hours, or the ternary copolyamides obtained therewith.
The following examples are intended to explain the essence of the present invention in more detail. Parts mean parts by weight. The following abbreviations are used: C = e-caprolactam, L = laurolactam, AH = hexamethylene diammonium adipate, AZH = hexamethylene diammonium azelainate, SH = hexamethylene diammonium sebazinate, PAC = poly-E-caprolactam, PASH = polyamide made from hexamethylene diamine and PAL sebacic acid
Examples
Ternary copolyamides were prepared by heating at 270 ° C. for 8 hours with nitrogen as the inert gas and using sebacic acid as a chain regulator.

For comparison purposes, the first two examples relate to nylon 6/6, 6/12 and example 3 relates to a 6/6, 10/12 copolyamide which has a component ratio which does not fall under the definition according to the invention.
Since the water absorption capacity of the ternary copolyamides depends on the component ratio in question, the advantage brought about by the copolyamides according to the invention can - with the same component ratio - e.g. from Example 15 in comparison to Example 1 and from Example 13 in comparison to Example 2.
