Tabelle I

B. Malathion , Naled , Parathion , Dimethylparathion , Phenitrothion , Dichlorfos , Bromofos , Azinofosmethyl , Monocrotofos , Metasystox , Systox , Disyston , Trithion , E.P.N. , Diazinon , Dimethoat , Mevinfos , Dipterex .

To combat harmful organisms such as certain insects, mold or weeds in arable, horticultural or silviculture, the areas to be treated have so far mostly been sprayed with aqueous pesticide solutions or dispersions. The quantities of liquid to be used are quite different and can vary from 40 to 1000 liters per hectare. Such large amounts are disadvantageous, particularly when treating large areas.
Therefore, one has been busy in the last few years with the development of liquid pesticide preparations, which can be used in very small amounts of 0.5 to about 5 liters per hectare. They are then nebulized as such either from agricultural machinery or from airplanes. These preparations are generally referred to as U.L.V. preparations (U.L.V. = ultra-low volume). In the preparations in question, the pesticide is usually present in a considerably higher concentration than is usual in combating harmful organisms with the much larger quantities of 40 to 1000 liters per hectare of diluted pesticide preparations dissolved or dispersed in water.
In order to achieve the highest possible degree of coverage of the surfaces to be treated, the U.L.V. preparations are preferably nebulized to form a cloud of extremely small droplets, most of which have a cross-section of about 100 μm.
For solid pesticides, a suitable solvent should naturally be found for processing into a U.L.V. preparation. This poses particular problems for the expert. In the first place, the pesticide should be very soluble in the solvent, because when used as a U.L.V. preparation, the highest possible concentration of the pesticide in the solvent is desired. In addition, the solvent should be only slightly volatile and preferably less volatile than xylene, so that it is prevented that the droplets formed dry out during the nebulization, which could result in an uneven distribution of the pesticide preparation over the surface to be treated. In addition, the solvent should have the lowest possible phytotoxicity.
This requirement is also applied to other liquid pesticide formulations, e.g. B. water-emulsifiable formulations, but it is even more important for ULV preparations because the residence time of the misted droplets on the leaf surfaces to be treated is relatively long due to the choice of solvents of low volatility, so that these solvents are longer than when other solvents are used Preparations can exert their phytotoxic effect.
Finally it has been found that it is advantageous if the solvent has a low viscosity, e.g. B. lower than
15 centipoise and preferably less than 5 centipoise. The viscosity of the U.L.V. preparation is decisive for the size of the atomized droplets under constant atomization conditions, namely in the sense that the atomized drops are larger when the viscosity is higher. Since small droplets must be formed with U.L.V. nebulization, the use of a low viscosity solvent is desirable.
The single-phase pesticide ULV preparation according to the present invention is characterized in that it contains a pesticide dissolved in isophorone in hexamethylphosphoric triamide, in dimethylformamide or in a mixture of these substances and a vegetable or animal wax or one obtained from such a wax by hydrolysis contains waxy product or a mixture of these substances as a phytotoxicity-reducing substance.
Compared to xylene, the three solvents mentioned have a low volatility. This was determined by allowing a small amount of each liquid to evaporate on open Petri dishes under reproducible conditions. The time in which 30 or 50% (vol.%) Had evaporated was determined for each liquid. The evaporation times are shown in Table I below.
Table I.
Number of hours in which Number of hours in which
30% liquid evaporates 50% liquid evaporates xylene 0.5 1 isophorone 8 13
Hexamethylphosphoric triamide more than 48 more than 48 dimethylformamide 4 6.5
It should also be mentioned that the viscosity of isophoron and dimethylformamide is approximately equal to 1 and that of
Hexamethylphosphoric triamide is between 2 and 3.
The liquids mentioned are as such and also as
Known solvents. Used as a solvent for pesticides
In the manufacture of single-phase U.L.V. preparations, these liquids have not yet been used. It is also not obvious to use these solvents in the manufacture of U.L.V. preparations because it is known that these solvents as such have a certain phytotoxicity. According to a feature of the invention, the phytotoxicity of the solvents mentioned by the addition of a
Plant or animal wax or hydrolysis products of an animal wax or mixtures of these substances are so reduced. that these liquids are suitable for practical use in U.L.V.-preparations.
A further advantage of the invention is that it is now possible to produce highly concentrated solutions of certain pesticides, of which, due to their poor solubility in the usual solvents, only solutions in lower concentrations were available until now.
In general, the invention encompasses single phase U.L.V. Preparations of insecticides, acaricides, fungicides and herbicides. However, the invention is of particular importance for insecticide and acaracide U.L.V. preparations.
It has been found that with insecticides based on chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as D.D.T. , Endrin, endosulfan, dieldrin, telodrin, toxaphen, heptachlor, stroban, lindane; based on organophosphorus compounds, e.g. B. Malathion, Naled, Parathion, Dimethylparathion, Phenitrothion, Dichlorfos, Bromofos, Azinofosmethyl, Monocrotofos, Metasystox, Systox, Disyston, Trithion, E.P.N. , Diazinon, Dimethoat, Mevinfos, Dipterex. Ethione, phosphamidone, and also carbamates such as carbaryl, dimetilane, a-naphthyl-N-dimethylcarbamate, carbofuran, satisfactory results can be achieved.
In addition, satisfactory results can be achieved with the following acaricides: Tetradifon, Tetrasul, Kelthan, Chlorparazid, Fenson, Chlorfenson and Binapacryl.
The effect also results from combinations of these substances, e.g. B. in mixtures containing Malathin and Tetradifon or Naled and Tetrasul or Carbaryl and Tetradifon.
Of the solvents to be used according to the invention, the usual commercial qualities can be used.
Plant or animal waxes or hydrolysis products of these waxes, which are particularly suitable, are u. a .: Carnauba wax, candelilla wax, ouricoury wax, esparto wax, flax wax, sugar cane wax, beeswax, Chinese wax and wool fat or mixtures of these substances. The constituents or the hydrolysis products of these substances have often also proven to be particularly suitable. This is particularly true for wool fat, of which particularly satisfactory results have been achieved with wool fatty alcohol and with wool fatty acid.
The amount of plant or animal wax can vary from case to case, but in general an amount of 0.5 to 5% by weight of these substances, calculated on the finished U.L.V. preparation, is sufficient. If necessary, a higher percentage, e.g. B. 10-15 w / v %, of the vegetable or animal wax or a hydrolysis product thereof, but then usually additional solvents, e.g. B. dodecylbenzene, because the vegetable or animal waxes or their hydrolysis products often dissolve less well in the solvents used according to the invention.
The invention preferably relates to U.L.V. concentrates of carbaryl, endosulfan, carbofuran, methoxychlor, D.D.T. , Lindane, dimethoate, dieldrin, endrin, tetradifon and tetrasul.
Table II below indicates the percentage of the pesticides mentioned in the preceding paragraph that can be dissolved in the solvents used according to the invention. The numbers, expressed in grams of solute in 100 ml of the final solution (w / v%), were found by determining how many grams of the pesticide in question are soluble in 100 ml of isophorone, hexamethylphosphoric triamide or dimethylformamide, and by having the specific gravity and the final volume of the saturated solution were measured. The table also mentions the degrees of solubility in xylene, which figures were found in a corresponding manner.

Table II shows that isophorone, hexamethylphosphoric triamide and dimethylformamide are generally more suitable solvents than xylene for the substances mentioned in the table.
If desired, the solvents used according to the invention can be mixed with one another. This is advantageous when using hexamethylphosphoric triamide, which is relatively expensive. Like dimethylfolnamide, this solvent can be blended particularly well with isophorone. If two solvents are used, the mixing ratio (in parts by weight) is preferably between 1: 9 and 9: 1.
On the basis of the data from the preceding tables and the results achieved in practice with preparations according to the invention, preparations of the following composition have proven to be particularly suitable. (The percentages are given in grams per 100 ml of final solution.)
1. 1540% carbaryl, dissolved in a mixture of isophorone and hexamethylphosphoric acid triamide, in which 0.5-5% of a plant or animal wax or a hydrolysis product of the same or a mixture of these substances is dissolved. 10.10-15 Tetradifon, dissolved in isophorone, which is optionally mixed with dimethylformamide, in which 0.5-5% of a plant or animal wax or a hydrolysis product of the same or a mixture of these substances is dissolved. The preparation is suitable for combating spider mites in cotton crops in quantities of 4-2 liters per hectare.
11.15-25 carbaryl and 4-6% tetradifon, dissolved in a mixture of isophorone and hexamethylphosphoric triamide, in which 0.5-5% of a plant or animal wax or a hydrolysis product of the same or a mixture of these substances is dissolved. The preparation is suitable for combating insects and spider mites in cotton crops in quantities of 4-21 / 2 liters per hectare.
12. 58% tetradifon and 25-40% malathion, dissolved in isophorone, in which 0.5-5% of a plant or animal wax or a hydrolysis product of the same or a mixture of these substances is dissolved. The preparation is suitable for combating spider mites and insects in cotton crops in quantities of 5-3 liters per hectare.
Particularly good results were obtained when wool fatty alcohol or wool fatty acid was used as the phytotoxicity-reducing substance in the above-mentioned preparations.
After application of the preparations, no or almost no damage to the treated plants and a strong reduction in the number of harmful insects or spider mites to be controlled were found.
The U.L.V. preparations according to the invention can be sprayed onto the vegetation from the ground or from the air. A suitable spray nozzle is e.g. B. of the type S.S. 80015, which is preferably used with an injection pressure of 3.2 kg / cm2. If the preparation is nebulized from an airplane, the suitable flight altitude is 2-3 m and the flight speed is 160 km / hour.
In the following Table III some compositions of preparations according to the invention and the phytotoxicity of these preparations are mentioned. As a rule, this phytotoxicity was determined in the event of a large overdose, which varied between 20 and 40 liters per hectare.
Phytotoxicity was expressed in the numbers 0-5, where 0 denotes no damage and 5 denotes maximum damage. The table also includes data for comparison purposes with regard to the phytotoxicity of corresponding preparations without plant or animal wax or hydrolysis products thereof and also with regard to the phytotoxicity of the solvents isophorone, hexamethylphosphoric acid triamide and dimethylformamide with and without the addition of the phytotoxicity-reducing substances mentioned.
