Abstract

Solid dirt and unemulsifiable liquid lubricant contamination is removed from spent oil emulsion used e.g. as a lubricant for drawing or drilling, or as a cooling medium by passing the emulsion at least once through a filter contg. calcined Mg, Al silicate, which has highly selective absorptive powers with respect to unemulsified oil. The oil can be removed from the filter by centrifuging and re-used.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for regenerating a used oil emulsion, as it is e.g. B. is used for cooling, drawing or drilling, as well as a means for carrying out the method and an oil emulsion regenerated according to the method.

The removal of solid particles (e.g. chips, scale or abrasion) from used oil emulsions, be it by means of a mechanical filter or a settling trough, presents practically no difficulties. On the other hand, the practically unavoidable penetration of such an emulsion with liquid, non-emulsifiable lubricants (leakage oil) leads to the fact that the emulsion, which is stable in itself, but contains leakage oil, for technical reasons (the emulsion becomes acidic with subsequent chemical attack on the workpieces). and / or has to be eliminated prematurely for health reasons.

Apart from the fact that this necessity is wasteful, it gives rise to a number of problems, of which only that of water pollution and / or that of splitting, flocculation, filtration and the subsequent removal of the components of the used emulsion can be mentioned.

The invention therefore aims to create a method with which it is possible, in addition to solid contamination, to remove liquid lubricants from used oil emulsions to such an extent that the serviceability of the oil emulsion once it has been made is considerably extended.

The proposed method is characterized according to the invention in that the used oil emulsion is passed through at least one filter containing calcined magnesium-aluminum-silicate.

Calcined magnesium-aluminum-silicate has been known for a long time as a high-quality absorbent for liquids. As such, it has been z. B. marketed as litter for small pets under the name Kitty-Dry or used as an admixture for loosening clay-rich soils in agriculture.

It has now surprisingly been shown that in the proposed method the said calcined magnesium-aluminum-silicate has to a certain extent a selective absorption capacity when filtering emulsions containing leakage oil.

Thanks to this selective absorption capacity, leakage oil is removed from the used emulsion without the originally set pH value of the emulsion or its percentage composition changing when it passes through the calcined magnesium-aluminum-silicate.

In addition, there is a further advantageous property of the calcined magnesium-aluminum-silicate. As has been found, this is able to bind leak oil up to 1.2 times its own weight. A relatively small amount of this filter material is therefore required in order to continuously remove the amount of leak oil that occurs from an operating cycle of an oil emulsion. In addition, this leak oil can then be removed again from the filter material by centrifugation and, if desired, reprocessed for lubricating purposes by refining.
