Composite foam cuboid, process for its production and use of the cuboid
The invention relates to a composite foam cuboid made of polyurethane, as an insulating block for heavy goods transport on railroad cars, which cuboid consists of filler and foamed connector. The invention further relates to a method for producing the cuboid and a use of the cuboid.
When transporting goods by rail, both the so-called rigid loading method and the so-called sliding loading method are used. There is also an intermediate loading method, the so-called catch wedging.
Each of these loading methods has its advantages and disadvantages.
In order to be able to use the loading area of a railway wagon to the maximum, the rigid loading method would be the cheapest. When shunting and assembling the wagons into a train composition, you have to reckon with collision speeds of around 12 km / h. If there is a load, e.g. B. a machine of about 24 t before, very large forces occur when the car collides. It is important to keep these forces as low as possible in order to protect the wagon and the load as much as possible. The force of the load acting in the direction of travel when a wagon hits the wagon can be reduced by the longest possible time until the two masses of wagon and cargo are brought to a standstill, or by the longest possible path along which the masses of wagons and The load comes to a standstill with the brakes. In practical operation, all of these variables are variable.
If a wagon drives onto a row of already coupled wagons, a coupled, damped oscillation occurs as a result of the buffers between the wagons, the oscillating masses mostly being different. Part of this energy hitting the coupled carriages is transferred as vibration energy by coupling from one vibrating car to the other.
The only way with such a system to destroy the energy of the impacting wagon in such a way that the wagon and the load, both of the approaching wagon and the wagons that are already coupled together, are spared, is to let the masses move against each other, this distance as the braking distance to use and to incorporate as many energy dissipation links as possible into this braking distance.
Energy-consuming buffers are an important measure here, namely to maintain the necessary movement path between the resilient masses and to destroy energy. Another shorter braking distance is gained through the elastic deformation of the vehicle material itself.
Energy is also consumed by plastic deformations within the car. A further destruction of the energy is achieved by moving masses against each other, i.e. loads against the wagon, as a result of sliding friction. The latter also applies to the wagons of the already coupled train composition.
The aim now is to incorporate further energy-consuming members into the system that vibrates when a car crashes. It is obvious that upholstery fabrics have already been thought of. Extensive investigations were carried out by Dr. Josef Penzkofer in the specialist magazine Verpackungs-Rundschau, issue 8, 1960. The resilience and damping of polyurethane foam are known.
This foam has a hyperbolic spring characteristic and strong damping. Polyurethane foam with its hyperbolic characteristic curve is, however, knocked through by the load even with the padding thicknesses that can be used in practice. For reasons of space, it is therefore not possible to provide such a thick polyurethane foam cushion that the advantageous spring characteristic can be used to achieve small impact accelerations and long impact times.
An improvement can be achieved here if so-called composite foam is used. This composite foam can be produced with a high density.
It is already known to use such a composite foam cuboid as a cushion for freight forwarded goods. This cuboid receives its high specific weight through pressing and the type of filler content. A flake-like filler, mainly polyurethane chips, was used for this. These are made by tearing up bits of polyurethane foam. When the filler and the foamed connector are pressed, the foam chips are compressed, i.e. tensioned, and after hardening, a pre-tensioned composite foam is obtained. However, such a composite foam cuboid has different material parameters in its three axes. Its suspension and damping properties are different in the three axes, since only one axis was pressed.
For such a composite foam cuboid, different load values would have to be specified in the three axes. The effectiveness of such a cuboid would be very different depending on the axis in which it is used as an insulating block
The aim is to create a composite foam cuboid in which the disadvantages mentioned can be avoided.
The composite foam cuboid according to the invention is characterized in that the filler has a size of no more than 6 mm, and that the greater proportion by weight of the cuboid consists of ether-based polyurethane and a smaller proportion of ester-based polyurethane. Due to the specified small size and the formation of the filler in granular form, a cuboid with an inherently almost homogeneous material can be created.
Despite pressing the composite foam in only one direction, a material can be achieved which has essentially the same mechanical properties in all three axes. If the cuboid were to be designed as a cube, it would be completely irrelevant in which position the cube is installed as an insulating block. By adding an ester-based polyurethane, the suspension and insulation effect of the cuboid can be influenced accordingly. It has been found that the properties desired in the insulation block can also be advantageously influenced by adding foamed rubber.
The cuboid can thus be made more or less hard, the suspension can be more or less progressive, and the hysteresis between compression and rebound can also be changed.
The inventive method for producing the cuboid, wherein the filler is pressed together with the connector in a thoroughly mixed state, is characterized in that the filler is produced by grinding polyurethane foam with a specific weight in the range from 0.02 to 0.07 to form granular material .
The use of the cuboid according to the invention is characterized in that it is intended, together with other cuboids, to lie between the slidingly mounted cargo and the fixed parts of the vehicle.
The grain size of the filler can be chosen as small as desired, so that cuboids with a very high specific weight are obtained. In practice, the cuboid must also be manufactured at an attractive price, so that for this reason the specific weight is chosen between 0.3 and 0.5. It has been found to be advantageous if the grain size is selected in the range of 46 mm.
To achieve the granular shape of the filler, polyurethane foam residues are ground and not chipped.
Such, in contrast to the known, small grain is surrounded by a substantially spherical chain when mixed with liquid polyurethane, which forms an intimate structure of the cuboid with the other adjacent chains. This framework can provide a great resistance to the deformation of the cuboid. When the cuboid is deformed, when the shock is absorbed, there is great internal friction between the individual mass parts connected to one another. This intimate framework also represents a great resistance for the air displaced by the impact. When the impact is absorbed and the air is displaced from the cuboid, the air is also heated, expands and further increases the insulating effect.
As a result of the smaller grain size compared to the known, the proportion of the mass soaked by the binder is larger than when using larger grains, which increases the mechanical strength of the cuboid. A cuboid constructed in this way has good insulation and recovery. Such a composite foam cuboid has a hyperbolic spring characteristic (progressive suspension) and a high level of damping. The cuboid thus has a spring characteristic like air suspension, but damping like a foam.
The insulating block is therefore a good shock absorber but also a sufficiently large return spring which is able to move the slidingly mounted load back in some cases somewhat against the direction of travel relative to the vehicle floor. On the one hand, it depends on the oscillating system that the wagon composition represents in the event of a collision with another wagon, but also on the change in the frictional resistance between the load and the wagon.
In practice, it was found that with the insulating block according to the invention, even after repeated impacts, the load has largely returned to its original position with respect to the vehicle floor.
The advantageous grain size of 4-6 mm of the filler is determined by sieves with appropriate mesh sizes. The filler is made by grinding polyurethane
Foam with a specific gravity in the range of
0.02 to 0.07 made into granular material.
Although the composite foam cuboid produced can naturally have any size, attempts have been made to develop several standard sizes. These standard sizes are determined by the price, handling, practical needs and other parameters in practice. It has been found that three standard sizes of composite foam blocks can be used in practice. A standard size I with the dimensions 100 x 150 x 200 mm. A standard size II with the dimensions 125 x 125 x 300 mm and a nonm size III with the dimensions 175 x 175 x 400 mm. The
Standard size I is used for less sensitive goods that
Size II for goods of medium sensitivity and the size
III for sensitive goods. The cuboids are used in such a way that the length is 200 mm in one case, 300 mm in the other and 400 mm in the third case.
The support surfaces for the cuboid both on the car and on the load must be parallel to each other and invariably in their position to each other in order to avoid the cuboid tipping over.
If the load is stored on sliding blocks (runners) as a substructure, and the front sides of these runners are too small to completely cover the surface of the adjacent cuboid, a cross beam should be placed on the front side of the runners. The cuboids then lie between this
Crossbeams and the car parts. The cuboid is nailed in the Be rich of its end lying on the car wall or fixed abutment with its entire thickness penetrating nails on the car floor.
For a load to be protected, at least one cuboid each is necessary in the longitudinal direction of the car in front of and behind the load. If the aforementioned standard cuboids are used in the manner mentioned, a load weight of 1 ton per cuboid can be well protected at the aforementioned sensitivity level I, because at an approach speed of
8 km / h, the longitudinal acceleration can be reduced by around 20% in this case. In sensitivity level II, the same load weight of 1 ton per cuboid can be protected even better, because with the same drive-up speed, the longitudinal acceleration when driving up can be reduced by around 33%.
In sensitivity level III, a loading weight of 2 tons per cuboid can be protected very well, because the longitudinal acceleration can then be reduced by around 50%.
When absorbing shocks, the cuboids are compressed with great damping. As a result of the reduction in volume, there is only a slight lateral bulging, so that if the two support surfaces for the cuboid are in a parallel position, there is no need to fear any lateral buckling of the cuboid.
