Salzanfalls behaftet. Z.B. fallen bei der Herstellung von
1 kg Caprolactam 4-5 kg Ammonsulfat an.
2,45 kg Ammonhydrogensulfat an.

**WARNUNG** Ende DESC Feld konnte Anfang CLMS uberlappen**.
Process for the production of lactams
The classic synthesis of lactams, which are used for the manufacture of polyamides, consists in the implementation of cycloaliphatic ketones with hydroxyl amine salts to give the corresponding cycloalcanon oximes and their Beckmann rearrangement using concentrated mineral acids, especially sulfuric or phosphoric acid.
This synthetic route has the disadvantage of being high
Tainted with salt. E.g. fall in the making of
1 kg of caprolactam contains 4-5 kg of ammonium sulfate. However, this or other salts are increasingly undesirable and efforts are therefore being made to develop processes for the production of lac tam which are associated with less or, ideally, no inevitable accumulation of salts.
One possibility arises from improvements in hydroxylamine synthesis and in oximation.
Through the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrogen oxide, the production of salts can be reduced significantly compared to the previously practiced Raschig process in hydroxylamine synthesis and in oximation.
A process has also been described for the preparation of hydroxylamine by catalytic nitrate reduction in a complex phosphoric acid buffer solution.
This hydroxylamine buffer solution can be used in the oximation stage without neutralization and the hydroxylamine-free buffer solution can be returned to the hydroxylamine synthesis after the oximation.
Processes are also known in which the mineral acid / lactam mixtures are worked up after Beckmann's rearrangement by extraction of the undiluted or diluted mixture, by distillation or partial neutralization and subsequent extraction.
Another possibility is to use fundamentally different manufacturing processes that avoid individual stages of the classic lactam process. This is e.g. this is the case with the photonitrosation processes, which have no hydroxylamine synthesis, no actual oximation and therefore no salts from the oximation stage.
So far, no processes are known which avoid any salt formation due to completely different chemical reaction processes and which are in large-scale operation.
With the exception of the latter, all methods are only partial solutions, because with their help the amount of salt can be reduced to a greater or lesser extent, but in no case can it be completely avoided.
By far the cheapest solution would be a variant of the classic process, which would be achieved by quantitative recycling of the mineral acid used or the cleavage of the resulting salt with the possibility of recovering the acid bound therein, i.e. by circulating the acid, eliminates any external exposure to salt.
The present invention now describes a method with which this solution, which was previously thought to be unrealizable, is implemented. I.e. it relates to a process in which lactams are produced from the associated oximes by means of Beckmann's rearrangement in sulfuric acid and the oximes are produced in the usual way from cycloaliphatic ketones with hydroxylamine sulfate, without the formation of salts that cannot be used further in the process.
The method according to the invention is a combination of a number of individual methods known per se. But only their suitable combination led to the surprising finding that when using ammonia as a neutralizing agent, both in the oximation and after the Beckmann rearrangement, in the end only the ammonium hydrogen sulfate is produced and this is added in a manner known per se with the addition of elemental sulfur Can split sulfur dioxide and nitrogen. Sulfuric acid is produced from the sulfur dioxide in the usual way and fed back into the process.
The process according to the invention has the following special features in the individual stages, as can also be seen from the process diagram according to FIG. The numbers in brackets relate to the numbers in this FIG. 1.
1. The hydroxylamine synthesis (1) takes place through the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrogen oxide (NO). The sulfuric acid required is generated using the sulfur dioxide obtained by splitting ammonium hydrogen sulfate.
2. The oximation (2) of a cycloaliphatic ketone or mixture of several ketones (co-oximation) takes place with the hydroxylamine sulfate produced by NO hydrogenation. The released sulfuric acid is neutralized with ammonia to form ammonium sulfate. This does not have to be isolated, but can be used further in the present aqueous solution.
3. The Beckinann rearrangement (3) of the cycloalcanon oxime or oxime mixture (colactamization) with concentrated sulfuric acid and / or oleum, the sulfuric acid and / or the oleum being produced from the sulfur dioxide obtained during the cleavage of the ammonium hydrogen sulfate obtained in the subsequent neutralization.
4. The neutralization (4) of the rearrangement mixture, which contains one or a mixture of different lactams in addition to sulfuric acid, takes place only with enough ammonia with the addition of the ammonium sulfate from the oximation stage that a mixture of lactam or lactams, ammonium hydrogen sulfate and water is formed from which the or the lactams are separated off by extraction with a water- and acid-insoluble solvent. The lactam or lactams are worked up as usual (8).
By feeding in the ammonium sulfate from the oximation, up to 50% of the ammonia bound in this amount of ammonia sulfate is also used for the partial neutralization of the rearrangement sulfuric acid according to the following equation: (NH.ftSO. + H -, 2NHSO4
The acidic salt that forms, ammonohydrogensulfate, is much easier to break down into sulfur dioxide and nitrogen than ammonium sulfate. In addition, the consumption of free ammonia is significantly reduced in this stage.
5. The ammonium hydrogen sulfate is converted into sulfur dioxide and nitrogen together with the required amount of elemental sulfur in the salt cleavage (5). The sulfur dioxide is converted into sulfuric acid and / or oleum by oxidation (6) in the SO and this in the adsorption stage (7).
6. The sulfuric acid and / or oleum recovered through the salt cleavage, oxidation of SO to SO and its reaction with water get back into the hydroxylamine synthesis (1) and the Beclimann rearrangement (2). This ensures a closed sulfuric acid cycle.
Since elemental sulfur is also introduced into the process during salt splitting, a more or less large amount of free sulfuric acid can also be obtained depending on how the process is carried out. This is not a disadvantage because, unlike ammonium sulfate, sulfuric acid is a versatile substance that can be used in extremely large quantities.
Since the salt solution used for the cleavage also burns all tar-like impurities that have arisen during Beckmann's rearrangement, the wastewater problems that have hitherto been common in this context are also eliminated on this occasion.
The reactions in the individual stages of the process according to the invention take place in a manner known per se. Another special feature of the process is that it can be used both for the production of only one lactam, e.g. Caprolactam or dodecalactam as well as for the joint production of different lactams, e.g. of caprolactam and dodecalactam is suitable.
Due to the different molecular weights of, for example, cyclohexanone and cydododecanone, their oximes and lactams, the material balance of the input and end products is different, depending on whether caprolactam alone, a mixture of caprolactam and dodecalactam or just dodecalactam is produced.
For example, to produce 1 kg of caprolactam, a total of approx. 0.69 kg of ammonia is required, and the oximation and rearrangement result in a total of approx.
2.45 kg of ammonium hydrogen sulfate. From this, about 1.50 kg of sulfur dioxide are formed by cleavage with the addition of 0.07 kg of sulfur. This amount of SO2 provides 1.88 kg of sulfur trioxide, from which approx. 1.71 kg can be returned to the process as sulfuric acid or oleum and an excess of 0.16 kg, corresponding to 0.2 kg of sulfuric acid, can be used for other purposes.
In contrast, only about 0.45 kg of ammonia are required to produce 1 kg of dodecalactam, and about 1.80 kg of ammonium hydrogen sulfate are produced. The splitting of the salt leads to the simultaneous addition of 0.05 kg of elemental sulfur to about 1.10 kg of SO and thus about 1.68 kg of sulfuric acid. 1.52 kg of this are sent back into the process for the hydroxylamine synthesis and the rearrangement of the cyclododecane oxime, and an excess of approx. 0.16 kg of sulfuric acid can be used for other purposes outside of the lactam process.
In the case of the joint production of caprolactam and dodecalactam, depending on the quantitative ratio of the two lactams, the consumption figures or the amount of additionally produced sulfuric acid lie between the values for the individual substances.
Further variants of the process according to the invention consist in completely or partially dispensing with the recycling of the ammonium sulfate from the oximation to the neutralization after the rearrangement, in order to remove any small amount of ammonium sulfate from the process in addition to the lactam if required.
In this way it is e.g. possible to obtain up to approx. 1 kg of ammonium sulfate per kg of caprolactam.
To cover the demand, the process requires a total of 1.71 kg SO3. In this case, 1.09 kg of SO3 can be recovered from the 1.57 kg of ammonium hydrogen sulfate. The remaining requirement of 0.62 kg SO3 has to be covered by additional combustion of 0.25 kg elemental sulfur.
Of course, there is the possibility, if required, of producing any amount of sulfuric acid for free disposal by burning a larger amount of sulfur.
The method according to the invention is thus characterized by extraordinary flexibility and is superior to other completely one-sided methods.
Example I.
In a reactor (1) there is a sulfuric acid solution of hydroxylamine sulfate and a little ammonium sulfate kept at 380C. The solution contains 10 g per liter of a catalyst consisting of 1% platinum on activated carbon, which is kept in suspension by introducing 450 Nm3 nitrogen monoxide and 810 Nm hydrogen per hour. In order to maintain an unchanged reaction medium, 5090 liters of an aqueous solution are withdrawn per hour and contain 282 g of hydroxylamine sulfate, 52 g of sulfuric acid and 20 g of ammonium sulfate per liter of 4980 liters of a 21 wt. -% sulfuric acid.
147 Nm3 exhaust gases leave the reactor per hour, of which 4.9% by volume represent unconverted nitrogen monoxide and 84.6% by volume unconverted hydrogen, and the remainder consists of dinitrogen monoxide and nitrogen in addition to a little water vapor.
Example 2
In a 2-stage oximation (2), the 5090 1 aqueous,
1437 kg of hydroxylamine sulfate containing solution with
1719 kg of cyclohexanone reacted continuously at 850C. The sulfuric acid introduced with the hydroxylamine sulfate solution and released during the reaction is neutralized by adding ammonia so that the pH of the reaction mixture is between 3.5 and 4.
In addition to an hourly 1975 kg of cyclohexanone oxime, this also falls
1512 kg of ammonium sulfate from the neutralization of the acid released and the free sulfuric acid and 118 kg of ammonium sulfate from the hydroxylamine sulfate solution, a total of 1630 kg per hour.
The freed from the aqueous ammonium sulfate solution
2065 kg of cyclohexanone oxime with a water content of about 4.5% are fed hourly into a rearrangement mixture present in a rearrangement apparatus (3) at the same time with an hourly 2631 kg of 21% oleum and rearranged. The reaction temperature is 950C.
The mixture of 4726 kg, consisting of 42.5% caprolactam and 57.5% sulfuric acid, leaving the rearrangement apparatus every hour during the residence time of approx. 1 hour, is cooled in the neutralization stage (4) under I (ühlung with that originating from the oximation stage , 1630 kg solution containing ammonium sulfate and 275 g ammonia are neutralized
10650 kg of a mixture that is liquid at 600C, consisting of 1975 kg of caprolactam, 4665 kg of ammonium hydrogen sulfate and approx. 2010 kg of water. This mixture is extracted fully with chloroform and the lactam-containing chloroform solution obtained is worked up in the usual way by distillation. 1830 kg of pure caprolactam are obtained per hour, corresponding to 92.5% of theory based on converted cyclohexanone.
The aqueous solution remaining after the extraction is injected into a salt splitting system (5), which consists of a shaft furnace heated to 1000-1100 C and provided with an acid and heat-resistant lining, together with air and 45 kg of elemental sulfur per hour and thermally decomposed. The reaction gas leaving the cracking plant contains, in addition to nitrogen, the rest
Oxygen and carbon dioxide produced by burning the heating medium, 2687 kg of sulfur dioxide, which is converted into sulfuric acid or oleum in a subsequent sulfuric acid factory (6/7).
1210 kg of sulfuric acid are in the form of a 21 wt. % aqueous solution returned to the hydroxylamine synthesis. 2756 kg of sulfuric acid or 2631 kg of 21-go oleum go back into the rearrangement and approx.
150 kg corresponding to 45 kg of elemental sulfur are available for other purposes.
Example 3
The solution containing 1437 kg of hydroxylamine sulphate, 264.5 kg of sulfuric acid and 118 kg of ammonia sulphate, prepared hourly according to Example 1, is continuously mixed with a mixture of 1102 kg of cyclohexanone and 1000C in a 2-stage oximation apparatus while continuously adding ammonia 1146 kg of cyclododecanone implemented. This produces 1272 kg of cyclohexanone oxime and 1235 kg of cyclododecanone oxime in the form of a mixture that is liquid at 1000C. Furthermore, as in Example 2, a total of 1630 kg of ammonium sulfate are obtained in the form of an aqueous solution.
The rearrangement of the oxime mixture separated from the aqueous phase and containing approx. 2% water takes place at 105-1100C. For this purpose, the oxime mixture and 2492 kg of about 12% oleum per hour are fed into a rearrangement cycle and reacted. The average residence time of the product is 1 hour.
For neutralization, 233 kg of ammonia are added to the rearrangement product in addition to the 1630 kg of ammonium sulphate per hour from the oximation stage, converting the sulfuric acid to 4422 kg of ammonium hydrogen sulphate and releasing the lactam mixture. The lactam mixture is separated off by extracting the neutralization product with chloroform.
The chloroform solution of the lactams is counter-extracted with water. Then the caprolactam is found in the water and the dodecalactam in the chloroform. Both solutions are worked up by distillation and 1161 kg of caprolactam corresponding to 93.3 so of the theory are thereby obtained. and 1187 kg of dodecalactam corresponding to 94.9% of theory receive.
The ammonium hydrogen sulfate solution remaining after the chloroform extraction, which consists of 1640 kg water and 4422 kg ammonium hydrogen sulfate, is removed together with all residues that are no longer usable in the process, e.g. the tar resulting from the extraction and the distillation residues are thermally split into nitrogen and sulfur dioxide in the salt gap plant with the simultaneous addition of 50 kg of elemental sulfur.
The sulfur dioxide is converted into sulfur trioxide through catalytic oxidation and its reaction with water again sulfuric acid or Oleum is generated, which is fed back into the process. 1210 kg per hour are used as 21% by weight acid in the HXQ synthesis, 2492 kg as 12% total oleum go back into the rearrangement.
