Stromerzeugungsaggregat

Up until now, generators powered by gasoline engines have been used to provide power at sea.
In general, these gasoline engines are stored in the ship's hull. whereby they generate noise and annoying vibrations during operation. Attempts have been made to do this
Problems due to the use of relatively large. To overcome sound-absorbing cladding and vibration-absorbing fastening devices. While these solutions helped. To dampen noise and vibrations of the power supply system. Such facilities are rela tively unwieldy and impractical for use in pleasure boats.
However, the noise problem also exists with power supply units that are used on land, for example on construction sites. The present invention now aims to provide a power generator that allows.
To dampen noise and vibrations in a simple way and at the same time reduce the risk of fire and explosion. The power generator according to the invention is marked by a watertight vessel. which contains a Brennkraftma machine and a power generator coupled with this, protruding from the vessel air supply means to the
To supply internal combustion engine with air. Exhaust means for the combustion products as well as cable means connected to the power generator to supply electricity to consumers, the vessel being designed to be located with the air supply means above the water surface and with the exhaust means below the water surface when arranged in the water.
Through these measures is achieved. that noise and vibrations can be significantly dampened, especially because of this. because the water acts as a silencer for the exhaust gases. If the power generator is used according to a preferred embodiment as a supply device for a boat. thus, by designing the vessel as a buoyant body or arranging it outside the hull, the transmission of vibrations to the same can be practically completely avoided.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the power generating unit according to the invention are shown. Show it:

In Fig. 1, 1 (1 denotes a power generation unit, which has a waterproof vessel l, which is partially submerged in the water and is connected to the stern of a boat 14 by a line 15).
As can be seen from FIG. the vessel l consists of two fiberglass half-shells 16 and 1 8th have the horizontally extending peripheral flanges 20 and 22. A gasket 24 disposed between the flanges 70 and 27. prevents water from entering the vessel. the half-shells being held together at the flanges by clamping elements 76,
Two tabs 28 and 3 () are provided on the upper half-shell. to make it easier to lift the vessel out of the water when the power generator is not in use.
The tab 28 at the bow of the vessel 12 comprises an anchoring piece 32 to which part of the connecting line 15 is attached. The anchoring piece 32 prevents the connecting line 15 from being torn off on the side of the vessel 12. if it is being dragged behind the boat or driven away from the boat under the influence of wind or current,
An internal combustion engine 34 which can be operated with either gasoline or diesel oil. is arranged in the central part of the vessel 1 2 and coupled to an alternator. to generate electricity.
The electricity generated is via electrical cables 38, which run within the connec tion line l. fed to the boat or its network. The free end 40 of the lanyard 1 to extends through the anchoring member 3 '. to connect the cables 38 to the alternator 36. The rear of the vessel 12 contains a fuel tank 42 which is used to supply the internal combustion engine 34. and at the same time forms an additional ballast for partial immersion of the vessel in the water. The tank 42 fills the rear part of the vessel or the half-shells 16 and 18 completely.
and is provided with a connecting piece 44 which extends through the half-shell 16. The connector 44 is closed with a self-venting cap 46. in order to avoid the leakage of fuel from the tank 42.
The air required for combustion is supplied through a snorkel tube 48. whose end part 5 (1 extends through an opening in the shell half 16 and establishes a connection between the atmosphere and the internal combustion engine 34. The opening 52 can be provided with a seal in order to prevent the entry of water into the vessel 12.
As can be seen from FIG. the end part 50 of the snorkel tube 48 has an L-shaped section 54, the free end 56 of which is directed downwards. The free end 56 carries a permeable cage 58 which contains a ball valve body 60. The diameter of the ball valve body 60 is chosen. that when the free end 56 is immersed, the ball is raised and pressed against this end. in order to prevent the entry of water into the snorkel tube 48 and the internal combustion engine 34.
Under normal operating conditions, the end 56 of the snorkel tube 48 lies above the water surface and the ball 60 rests on the bottom of the cage 58, whereby the end 56 is in communication with the atmosphere. The air entering through the end 56 of the snorkel tube 48 flows through it opposite end 62 into the casing of the alternator 36 connected to it. As it passes through the casing 64, the air cools the alternator 36 and increases its operating range. The air is then fed to the internal combustion engine 34. where it is mixed with fuel from tank 42.
The fairing can be provided with a filter (not shown) which is capable. to catch moisture entering through the snorkel tube and to separate it from the air stream before entering the internal combustion engine.
The combustion products from the internal combustion engine 4 are discharged through an exhaust line 66. which has an outlet end 68. which extends through the half-shell 18 and allows. to expel the combustion gases below the surface of the water. In order to allow the end part 68 to pass through the half-shell 18. this has an opening 70 which is provided with a seal, not shown. to prevent the entry of water into the vessel. The free end 72 of the exhaust line 68 is directed towards the bow of the vessel 17. so the exhaust. who emerge from this. the vessel 12 from the boat 14 with full utilization of the length of the connecting line 1-; move away.
In this way, during operation of the power generation unit l 10, the vessel 12 will always be at a considerable distance from the boat 14 and to a certain extent also counteract the action of wind and current.
As already mentioned. the vessel 12 is partially immersed in the water and when the fuel tank 42 is filled, 60S of the vessel are below the water line. Immersing the vessel 12 generates noise and vibrations.
which come from the internal combustion engine. absorbed by the surrounding water and isolates the boat 14 therefrom.
The noise. that arises during the operation of the power generation unit. is further reduced by the distance. in which the vessel is held with respect to the boat due to the arrangement of the exhaust 66.
The free end 72 of the exhaust line 68 is provided with a valve element 74. which allows the combustion gases to exit line 68. however, the entry of water into the line 68 is prevented when the power generator is shut down. The valve element 74 has a tubular end piece. which receives the end 72 of the line 68 and is connected to this watertight. A central one. flexible bellows piece 78 connects to the tubular section. The bellows piece is stiffened by a helical spring, not shown. to maintain its tubular cross-section and to ensure the free flow of combustion gases.
The outlet end SO of the valve element 74 forms the actual closure part and. as can be seen from the section according to FIG. this is formed by a pair of flat side parts 82 which delimit a slot 84 between them. The slot 84 is in communication with the tubular parts 78 and 76. When the internal combustion engine is in operation. so the exhaust pressure is sufficient. to separate the side panels 82 for the exit of the combustion gases. However, if the internal combustion engine is shut down. so the slot 84 is closed. to prevent the entry of water.
If the vessel 1 2 is towed through the boat 14. so the flow entails. that the valve element 74 is deflected from the direction of travel by deformation of the flexible part 78. As a result, the operation of the internal combustion engine 34 can then also be maintained. when the boat 14 is in motion: the entrance to slot X4 is facing away from the direction of travel. so that. Despite this, it is kept open by the exhaust gas pressure. Water cannot be pressed into it.
The vessel 1 2 also contains a system for self-draining.
comprising a venturi siphon tube 86. one end 8s of which extends into the exhaust pipe 66 (FIG. 2). while the opposite end 9 () extends into the vicinity of the bouens ul of the shell half 18. When the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine flow by line 66 past end 88. If the pressure in this is reduced by the Venturi effect and the pressure difference between the interior of the vessel 12 and the end of the tube 88 is sufficient.
in order to let the water collected at the bottom 92 rise through the pipe and drain into the pipe 66. to exit the exhaust through valve 74.
The lower shell half 18 has a stabilizing fin 94 at its rear, which is used for this. to prevent the vessel 17 from tipping over under extreme wind or current conditions. In addition, the fin 94 stabilizes the vessel even if it is being dragged along by the boat 14. In the vicinity of the bow, the vessel 12 has two additional fins 96 which support the fin 94 in its action. In addition, these fins define a three-point support for the vessel 17 (as can be better seen from FIG. 3). when it is lifted out of the water and placed on the boat deck, for example.
The fins 94 and 96 also cooperate with the flanges 20 and 22, which are immersed in the water when the power generator is in operation, in order to counteract the tendency of the vessel to rotate about its longitudinal axis.
This tendency arises as a result of the reaction torque of the rotating parts of the internal combustion engine 34 and the alternating current generator 36. The circumferential flanges 20 and 22 are surrounded by a bumper rod which is tubular in cross section and which can be molded onto the closed vessel 12. The bumper 98 helps prevent damage to the boat 14 and the flanges 20 and 22 should the vessel 12 ram the boat while the former is in the water.
While an AC generator is used in the above embodiment, a conventional DC generator can also be used.
However, it is preferable to use an alternating current generator, as this eliminates the need for a commutator and thus the possibility of sparking. This is of particular importance for the safety of the power generator, since the vessel 17 is closed and there is a risk of explosion inside it due to the fuel or fuel vapors present,
In order to reduce damage to the vessel 12 in the event of an explosion and to allow access to the interior of the vessel, a lid 100 fastened with springs is attached in the upper shell half 16. The lid 100 comprises an annular part 102 which extends into an opening 104 in the upper shell half 16 and which has an annular flange 106 which rests on the surface of the shell half.
The flange 106 can be provided with a seal, not shown, in order to ensure a watertight seal. The end 108 of the flange 106 is connected to the shell half 16 by a hinge 107 (FIG. 2) so that the cover 100 can be pivoted upwards when it is opened. The opposite end 110 of the flange 106 is pressed against the shell surface by means of a locking element 112 which is displaceable on a pin 114. The pin 114 has a stop 116 at its upper end, against which a helical spring 118, which is placed on the pin, is supported and which engages the locking element 112 in order to press it downwards. To open the cover 100, the locking element 112 is pulled upwards against the action of the spring 118, so that it releases the cover 100.
In the event of an explosion within the vessel 12, the lid 100 is pressed upwards and in doing so lifts the locking element 112 against the action of the spring 118 until the edge 110 of the flange 106 is completely released, so that the explosion pressure inside the vessel through the opening 104 can reduce.
As already mentioned, the half-shells 16 and 18 are made of fiberglass and are relatively rigid and have a relatively high structural strength. The strength of the spring 118 is selected so that the cover 100 is released before an internal pressure is reached which would be sufficient to damage the shell halves. In addition, fiberglass is a relatively good conductor of heat and is therefore able to dissipate heat generated by the internal combustion engine into the surrounding water.
In order to facilitate the operation of the power generating unit 10 from the boat 14, the connecting line 15 is provided with additional wires for controlling the internal combustion engine. Of these wires, the wire 120 establishes the connection between a control element on the boat 14 and an electromagnet on the internal combustion engine 34, which actuates the air flap in order to start the same. The speed of the internal combustion engine is controlled in the usual way by a controller as a function of the load on the alternator. In addition, a grounding conductor 122 is provided for the vessel and a conductor 124 for starting the internal combustion engine, which is connected to a battery provided on the boat.
The starter motor (not shown) for the internal combustion engine 34 can be designed to remain in engagement with the internal combustion engine during operation in order to generate direct current to a limited extent. This direct current can be provided for operating the position lights on the vessel 12, such as for the light 126, which is attached to the snorkel tube 48. In Fig. 5 an alternative embodiment of the power generating unit according to the invention is shown, which can be used on land, for example as a power supply for the electrical equipment of a construction site. A closed tank 200 is provided. which accommodates a motor generator unit 202-204 within a housing that is designed as a watertight vessel.
The motor generator unit corresponds to the unit 34-36 of the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-4.
The tank 200 has a removable cover 206 to allow access to the interior or the insertion of the motor generator unit. The tank is designed to hold a certain amount of liquid such as B. water indicated at 208, and the volume is sufficient to receive the motor generator unit completely submerged.
The tank has an opening 210 through which water can be supplied and a cap 212 which closes the opening 210. Furthermore, a drain 214 is provided, which is controlled by a tap 216 and allows the tank to be emptied.
A cradle 218 is provided in the interior of the tank to support the motor-generator unit and springs 220 are used for resilient positioning of the motor-generator unit within the tank 200. Air supply means, such as e.g. B. the line 222, extend from the motor generator unit 202-204 through the fuel cap 206 to supply atmospheric air through the generator of the internal combustion engine and thereby to cool the generator and to supply the necessary oxygen for combustion. Fuel for the internal combustion engine can be supplied from an external fuel tank or a fuel container can be provided within the tank or within the watertight housing enclosing the motor-generator unit.
The products of combustion are discharged directly into the water 208 through an exhaust 224 and the open end of the exhaust 224 is directed so that the products of combustion create a circular flow in the tank, thereby continuously circulating the water around the engine generator unit, cooling it in the process. An exhaust pipe 226 is provided in the lid 206 of the tank 200 so that the combustion gases flowing through the water 208 in the tank 200 can escape to the atmosphere.
Since the combustion products are diverted directly into the water in the tank 200, this acts as a silencer and at the same time as insulation to reduce the risk of fire and explosion. The water also dampens the engine noise.
It may be desirable to additionally cool the water within the tank 200, and for this purpose cooling fins 230 may be provided on the outer surfaces of the tank to remove heat from the water by conduction and to release the heat to the atmosphere by convection. In addition, cooling tubes 232 can be provided in order to allow a coolant to circulate in the tank, which coolant is circulated via a cooling unit 205.
The electrical energy generated by the generator unit 204 is supplied to the consumers through conductors 234, which are connected to the generator, through the tank lid.
