Storage water heater device
The realization of water heaters equipped with an interior chamber preventing the heat supplied by the heating body from being dispersed throughout the tank from the start of the heating process is known.
The invention described provides the device with an improvement which allows the limitation of the volume actually heated to the desired temperature, as well as the automatic commissioning of this limitation.
It relates more precisely to a storage water heater, comprising a heating body surrounded by a wall constituting a chamber whose volume is small compared to the volume of the device, this chamber being placed in communication by openings or conduits with the upper and lower parts of the apparatus, the assembly being arranged such that the water from the latter part enters the chamber where it is heated and then conducted to the upper part of the apparatus.
This device is characterized in that the heating control is placed alternately under the control of a thermostat sensitive to the temperature of the water located at the bottom of the device and stopping the heating when all the water volume of the device reaches a certain temperature or a thermostat sensitive to the temperature of the water located near the top of the device and stopping the heating when only a certain volume of water reaches a certain temperature.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which comprises:
a tank 1, externally insulated by an insulating jacket 13 protected by an outer casing 14, in which is mounted a heating body 2. The tank 1 comprises a cold water inlet pipe 10 opening at a short distance from a deflector 11 intended to prevent vertical stirring of the water contained in said reservoir, as well as a hot water outlet pipe 12, the orifice of which is located near the highest point of the upper bottom. The heating body 2 is surrounded by an insulating wall 3 limiting a chamber 4 in communication with the volume of the tank, on the one hand, by an opening at its base at 5 and, on the other hand, by the channel 6 which opens into the upper part of the tank.
The supply of energy to the heating body 2 is controlled by at least two thermostats, one 7 conventionally placed in the lower part of the tank, the other 8 placed at a carefully chosen point in the upper zone of said tank. A switch 9, which can be controlled by hand or by the effect of a clock or a relay which is itself controlled remotely (not shown in the drawing) makes it possible to choose the thermostat inserted in the circuit of the heating body. , for example based on differentiated energy tariffs.
The operation of the device is as follows if, for example, electricity is heated with differentiated night and day rates: 1) Night service: the entire volume must be heated.
The heating body will be triggered by a
usual thermostat 7 placed in the lower part
upper tank.
2) Day service: only part of the volume should be
be heated. Using a switch 9,
we then connect to the body circuit of
heats at least one thermostat 8 of which the
sensitive element is placed in the su
lower tank. When the area in con
tact with the thermostat sensor arrives at the
chosen setpoint temperature, it cuts the
circuit, thus limiting the time of use
heating only the desired volume.
The sensitive part of the thermostat of the upper part of the reservoir can advantageously be formed by a bimetallic rod or by a long bulb filled with expandable liquid as drawn in the figure, starting for example from the upper bottom downwards. Such a thermostat could also be placed laterally at the appropriate height limiting the volume to be heated. In this case, it may be advantageous to provide two thermostats coupled in series, one set to the desired setpoint temperature, the other placed a little lower and set at a slightly lower temperature. This arrangement makes it possible to avoid inadvertent heating of too large a volume of water.
Another embodiment of the apparatus described can be imagined, providing for example the chamber 4, with its heating body 2, mounted next to the main tank, the hydraulic connections 5 and 6 with the bottom, respectively the top, of the main tank being made by means of screwed or welded pipes, between the chamber and the main tank.
To ensure proper operation of the apparatus, a diaphragm 15 will be provided to restrict the section of communication of the chamber 4 with the reservoir. This diaphragm can be located either to the right of the opening 5, or along the channel 6. In the latter case (shown in the figure) it is possible to provide on the reservoir 1 an orifice 16 closed by a removable cover, allowing cleaning. diaphragm in case of obstruction.
In addition, the wall 3 as well as the channel 6 can be completely or partially insulated so as to reduce the heat exchange with the water outside the chamber 4.
