Method of applying a lining to the inner surfaces of molded plastic articles
The invention relates to a method for applying a heat-insulating and moisture-diffusing lining to the inside of an object manufactured in a hollow mold by casting from a liquid plastic dispersion.
Recently, many items of clothing such as
Shoes and gloves, made of plastic, whereby either individual parts are cut out of plastic foils and then fitted together on strips by sewing or gluing, or the objects are poured or injected as a whole from plastic dispersions in hollow molds and then cured by the action of heat.
In order to improve the objects in terms of their thermal protection and the diffusion of moisture given off by the part of the body which is covered by the object, linings made of fibrous materials in the form of prefabricated and pre-formed linings are applied to the inside of the finished object. In recent times there has also been a move to roll a fiber layer onto the inside of the film for objects that are made from plastic film blanks, thereby creating a laminated film, i.e. H. to obtain a layer film which consists of a plastic layer and a fiber layer.
The invention provides a method for applying a heat-insulating and moisture-diffusing lining to the inside of an object produced in a hollow mold by casting from a liquid plastic dispersion, which is particularly suitable for applying the fiber layer during the usual production process for the object.
According to the invention, the proposed method is characterized in that, in a first method step, a textile fiber layer is spread out directly or with the interposition of a thin plastic layer on the inner surfaces of the object formed in the cavity of the mold and before it hardens, the length of the fibers being greater than that desired thickness of the lining and the fibers are of natural or synthetic origin, then as the next step a shrunk, stretchable bag is inserted into the mold, the shape of which in the expanded state corresponds approximately to the inner shape of the mold, the bag inside the mold by filling with a medium is expanded until it rests on the fiber layer and exerts a slight pressure on it, which in turn directly or
with the interposition of the thin plastic layer rests against the cast object, which in turn rests against the rigid mold, and that finally the bag is shrunk, removed from the mold and the object with the plastic layer, if necessary, is made to harden by means of the action of heat on the outer surface of the mold, then cooled and then removed from the mold as a finished object.
A preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, in which a boot serves as an example of an item of clothing, is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which shows:
1 shows a longitudinal section through the metal casting mold for the object, which surrounds it before the end of curing,
Figure 2 is a view of a shrunk expandable pouch used to partially embed fibers of the protective layer into the interior surfaces of the article;
3 shows a longitudinal section through the metal casting mold, the molded object provided with a lining and the expandable bag enclosed in the mold in the fully expanded state.
In Fig. 1, a thin, hollow and thermally conductive metal mold 1 for an object, such as the boot shown here, has been coated in a manner known per se with plastic, the thickness of which is different at the various points, and a thin upper 2, a thicker shoe cap 3, a reinforced heel 4, a thick heel 5 and a sole 6, the heel section 5 being filled with a slightly hardening plastic filler 7.
The plastic material forming the boot within the mold 1 is gelled but not hardened. Then a thin coating of a fresh, liquid plastic dispersion 8 is applied to the entire inner surface of the upper part 2, the toe 3, the heel 4, the filling material 7, the heel 5 and the sole 6. A layer of short and thin textile fibers 9 is then applied to the liquid plastic coating 8 in preparation for the further process steps. The fibers can be of natural or synthetic origin.
In FIG. 2, a sock-shaped, expandable and tight bag 10 is shown which is provided with an inlet connection 11. When the bag 10 is made accessible by the introduction of a suitable medium, e.g. Compressed air, water or a granular material, e.g. Fine sand is fully expanded, the medium exerts an outward pressure on all parts of the bag 10, so that the bag assumes a shape through which the cavity within the mold 1 is filled.
In Fig. 3, the form 1 is shown with a boot, which consists of an upper part 2, a cap 3, a heel 4, a heel 5 and 7 and a sole 6, these all parts with a cover 8 and a fiber layer 9 are covered. After inserting the expandable bag 10 in the shrunk state into the cavity, as shown in dashed lines, the expansion medium is fed to the bag 10 through the inlet nozzle 11, so that the bag expands and comes into the position 10 'in which it rests against the fiber layer 9, which is held by the coating 8 within the molded article and the rigid mold 1.
The expanded bag 10 'presses against the fiber layer 9 and thereby presses part of the fibers into the plastic coating 8, whereby a mutual connection between the plastic coating 8 and the fiber layer 9 is ensured.
When the expanding medium is drained from the bag 10 'again through the inlet nozzle 11, the bag 10' shrinks into the relaxed shape 10 and can be easily removed.
The entire contents of the mold 1 are then exposed to an external heat effect, as a result of which the boot consisting of the upper part 2, toe 3, heel 4, heel 5 and 7 and sole 6, as well as the plastic cover 8 are cured. The embedded parts of the fiber layer 9 remain firmly embedded in the cured coating 8 and keep the entire layer 9 in permanent connection with the inner surfaces of the boot, which can be pulled out of the mold 1 after cooling.
The plastic coating 8 is not necessary if the gelling of the upper part 2, the toe 3, the heel 4, the heel 5 and 7 and the sole 6 is carried out carefully so that the inner surfaces of these parts are kept in a still soft and sticky state will. In this case, the fiber layer 9 can also be applied without the plastic coating 8.
However, it may be necessary to remove or vacuum any unattached or loose fibers from the inner surfaces of the fiber layer 9 before the article is put into use. This process can take place before the final curing or after the object has been removed from the mold.
