Liner ring for soft material seals The subject of the main patent 503 925 is a preliminary ring for soft material seals for sealing passages, which is characterized in that at least one ring made of hard metal cooperates with at least one ring made of softer material of such thickness and arrangement, that only the softer ring is deformed by pressing in the ring made of harder material under the effect of contact pressure.
In this way, a pre-ring is created which is simple and therefore economically adjustable in its structure and allows the construction of a narrowly delimited, strongly plastically deformed sealing zone with high specific surface pressure under load. The soft metal ring has a certain thickness to build up a certain specific sealing pressure and to adapt to an optionally downstream soft material flat seal relative to the hard metal ring, so that sufficient plastic deformation paths can be covered.
In the event of a load, as a result of the plastic deformation of the soft metal ring, a relatively narrow bearing zone with high specific sealing pressure is built up over the inserted hard metal ring. This achieves good micro and macro adaptation to the sealing surfaces. Damage to the sealing surfaces is avoided because the entire deformation path of the sealing connection is absorbed by the soft metal ring. The force-displacement function can be influenced within wide limits by coordinating the materials and the geometrical dimensions of the hard metal ring and the soft metal ring. In the case of dynamic loading, vibrations are largely reduced.
Vibration damping is achieved in that a high specific pressure is built up in the heavily plastic-deformed support zone of the soft metal ring and the material of the soft metal ring also experiences a certain strain hardening in this area.
The object of the invention is to be able to adapt the course of the characteristic line to the respective operating conditions with the greatest possible accuracy.
The invention solves this problem by constructing the soft metal ring from several layers. According to an expedient embodiment of the invention, the soft metal ring consists of three layers.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the individual layers of the soft metal ring can consist of materials of different thicknesses.
In addition, the individual layers of the soft metal ring can consist of materials with different properties. Here, the outer layer can be made of particularly soft material in order to achieve an adequate micro-seal.
If a particularly high fatigue strength is desired, a particularly tough material is used for the outer layer of the soft metal ring.
A further advantageous embodiment of the invention can be achieved in that the outer layer of the soft metal ring with extended edge surfaces defines the intermediate ring in the soft material without influencing its identifier.
Furthermore, the outer layer of the soft metal ring can have tabs which, as a soft material layer, improve the damping properties of the seal in the event of dynamic loads.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments. 1 shows a pre-ring with a soft metal ring consisting of several layers for the edging of a hard metal ring in cross section; 2 shows a pre-ring of a known design with a soft metal ring made of a uniform material for the hard metal ring; 3 shows a diagram with a relative thickness of the intermediate rings according to FIG. 1 or
Fig. 2; 4 shows a preferred embodiment of the front bearing ring according to the invention for a soft flat gasket, also in cross section; 5 shows a further embodiment of the template ring according to the invention, in which the outer layer of the soft metal ring is partially designed as a damping tab, again in cross section, and FIG. 6 shows a top view of the embodiment according to FIG.
In the figures, pre-rings for soft seals for sealing passages are illustrated in which at least one ring made of hard metal cooperates with at least one ring made of softer mate rial of such a thickness and arrangement that only the softer ring by pressing in the ring from harder Material is deformed under the effect of a contact pressure. Such a template ring is shown in Fig. 2, in which the hard round steel wire 1 is in a soft metal ring 3, which consists of a unified union, compared to the round steel wire softer Mate rial.
In contrast, Fig. 1 shows a template ring according to the invention in which a hard round steel wire 1 is partially surrounded by a ring 2 made of a relatively soft material consisting of three layers, namely an outer layer 2a, a middle layer 2b and an inner layer 2c is built on. To match the chain line, the individual layers 2a, 2b, 2c of the soft metal ring 2 can have both different thicknesses and different material properties.
In the diagram according to FIG. 3, the relative thickness of an intermediate ring according to the invention, as shown in FIG. 1, and of a known intermediate ring according to FIG. 2 is plotted against the load P. A certain initial load is assumed. The shape parameter, which results from the quotient of the thickness of the soft metal ring and the diameter of the hard round steel wire, is 0.6. Furthermore, it is assumed that the individual layers 2a, 2b, 2c of the soft metal ring 2 of the present invention are each dimensioned the same thickness and their total thickness is as large as that of the soft metal ring 3 of the known intermediate ring.
Characteristic curve A relates to the known pre-ring according to FIG. 2 and characteristic B relates to the pre-position ring according to the invention with a layered soft metal ring according to FIG. 1. The middle layer 2b of the soft metal ring consists of a moderately harder material than the inner and outer layers 2c and 2a. The middle layer 2b, however, is softer than the round steel wire 1. The round steel wire of the pre-ring is chosen so hard that it does not undergo any plastic deformation even under load. The comparison of the two characteristic curves A and B in Fig. 3 shows how the characteristic curve of the front bearing ring due to the layer structure of the soft metal ring 2 shifts.
The contact pressure changes only slightly over a relatively wide deformation range, as the diagram shows. By changing the material properties of the middle layer 2b, in particular a change in hardness and toughness, the characteristic curve B of the multi-layer intermediate ring can be significantly influenced.
If the middle layer 2b is made of a tough material that is only moderately plastically deformed under the load applied, the elasticity of the pre-ring can be influenced as far as necessary to adapt to the dynamic movement conditions. As a result, sealing can also be ensured at critical points in the combustion chamber of engines that have particularly large vibration amplitudes.
The multi-layer design of the soft metal ring makes a preferred embodiment of the fiction, according to the original ring for fastening the sealing ring possible, as shown in FIG. According to this embodiment, the outer layer 2a is crimped at 2d over a soft material secondary seal 4 without the function of the multilayer pre-ring being impaired. When using the front ring as a combustion chamber seal, e.g. B. on internal combustion engines, the multi-layer pre-ring offers the opportunity to simultaneously perform the functions of sealing, soft material edging and increasing vibration damping in connec tion with the soft material 4.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the outer layer 2a of the soft metal ring 2 can be provided with damping tabs 2e which, as a more common soft material layer, cause additional vibration damping at those points of the engine that are particularly subject to critical dynamic stresses or vibrations.
In the event that a particularly high fatigue strength of the flat gasket is desired, particularly tough material is preferably used for the outer layer of the soft metal ring.
