Multi-layer label and its manufacturing process
The invention relates to a label formed by at least two superimposed elementary layers or labels attached in a removable manner and respectively bearing impressions, capable of constituting additional indications or intended to follow one another over time.
It is therefore important that one can only take cognizance at a given moment of the only indication carried by that of the elementary labels which is located, at that moment, on the outer visible face of the label and that, moreover, it or impossible to report on this face an elementary label previously separated from the others.
This is why the invention relates to a label with multiple layers- formed by at least two elementary labels superimposed and respectively bearing impressions capable of constituting additional indications or intended to follow one another in time, the back of the label lower elementary being intended to be bonded to a substrate using an adhesive with a high adhesion coefficient, characterized in that two opposite faces of two successive elementary labels bear, respectively, one a coating of a layer of a non-stick product and the other a coating of a light adhesive, each elementary label except the lower elementary label comprising a gripping means allowing it to be separated from the underlying elementary label .
Of course, each label can be made either of paper or other suitable material, or of a complex and in particular of an aluminum-paper complex.
The subject of the invention is also a method of continuously manufacturing a label with multiple layers from separate bands intended to respectively form the elementary labels of the same serial number in the stack to be formed, a method characterized in that :
a) the strip intended to form the upper elementary labels of the labels with multiple layers has a width greater than that of the labels to be obtained and the strips intended to form the successive elementary labels up to the lower elementary labels have widths increasing in length. order of the superposition.
b) Each strip receives on the front a succession of prints made continuously at constant intervals, each made up of the indication that the corresponding label must bear and by a marginal transverse mark, the impression of those of the strips that correspond to the labels elementary having to present an impression on the back being carried out with registration compared to the impression appearing on the front.
c) each strip then receives, according to its serial number in the stack to be formed, a coating of non-stick product and / or a coating of light adhesive with formation on the coated face of light adhesive of reserves corresponding to zones of the periphery of each of the elementary labels and constituting the gripping means.
d) the bands, aligned by their edge opposite to that bearing the marginal marks, each pass through an adjustment register so as to achieve the transverse alignment of the corresponding marginal marks of the various bands, then the latter are superimposed and pressed against each other others.
e) the assembly thus formed is then cut into labels with multiple layers in the final format, the alignments of marks allowing the adjustment of the cross sections.
By way of example, a particular embodiment of the subject of the invention is described below, formed by two superimposed elementary labels and intended to be affixed to packaging for the sale of eggs. In the attached drawing:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a fraction of the strip intended to form the lower elementary label,
FIG. 2 is a similar view of a fraction of the strip intended to form the upper elementary label,
FIG. 3 shows in plan the two joined bands,
Figure 4 is a partial soup on a large scale of the following set IV-IV of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a plan view
and Figure 6 is a plan view after separation of the top label.
In the drawing, two bands B1 and B2 both of greater width than that of the two-layer label
C which is to be manufactured, are each constituted either by a strip of paper or by a laminated composite strip such as a strip of an aluminum-paper complex.
The band B1 is intended to form the lower layer of a complex band obtained by the superposition of the bands B1 and B2.
B1 tape width is larger than B2 tape, that is, B1 tape margin or overshoot from label C format is larger than B2 tape margin .
In a rotogravure printing station of a rotary machine, the band B1 receives on its front, at constant intervals, a series of prints 1 in an area corresponding to the format of the label C and outside of this zone of the transverse marginal marks 2 for marking and cutting.
In the example described, the impression 1 consists of the mention fresh eggs. In a second station of the rotary press, the front of the strip B1 receives over its entire surface a coating S of a release agent, that is to say of a body such as silicone oil which reduces the adhesion power of adhesives on the surface coated with such a product.
In another series of stations of the rotary machine, the band B2 receives, on the one hand, on the front, a series of prints 3, in the example the mention extra fresh and transverse marginal marks 4 and, on the other hand On the back side, a coating A of a light adhesive over its entire surface with the exception of the reserves R corresponding to the four corners of the label C. The term “light adhesive” is understood to mean an adhesive for which the resistance to perpendicular tearing ( according to the prescriptions of the American standard ASTM D 903-49) is less than half of the breaking strength of the support. For paper, for example, such an adhesive can be a latex adhesive used at a rate of three to eight grams per square meter depending on the quality of said paper.
The bands B1 and B2 aligned by their edge 5a, 5b opposite to that bearing the marginal marks, respectively 2 and 4, are superimposed and pressed so as to obtain by light gluing of B2 and B1 a complex band (FIG. 3). At least one of the two bands, before being applied against the other, passes into an adjustment register making it possible to adjust the bit rates of the bands with respect to each other and in such a way that after superimposing them. marks 2 and 4 of each interval are arranged in concordance.
The complex strip is then cut into multiple labels C by longitudinal D1 and transverse sections D2, the latter being able to be adjusted using the marks 2 and 4. Each label therefore comprises (FIG. 4) two superimposed elementary labels El and E2 secured by the layer. adhesive A. Thanks to the non-stick coating S, this bond has a relatively low tear resistance.
When the label is stuck on the support formed by the object to be marked using a strong adhesive, such as fish glue in a layer of at least fifteen grams per square meter, the bond between the back of the elementary label El and the support has a relatively high resistance to tearing.
Thus when a traction is exerted on the elementary label E2 by gripping it by one of its corners, which is possible thanks to the reserves R, it separates from the label El without detaching the latter from its support, without damage printing 1 and without modifying the packaging. In the example shown, this operation is carried out when the Extra fresh mention ceases to be valid, the Fresh Eggs mention being substituted for it (fig. 6).
Of course, the adhesive necessary for fixing the label to its support can be applied by a machine for applying the labels, but it can also be applied at the time of manufacture in a gluing station of the rotary machine and in this case, it is covered by a non-stick protective paper coming from an additional strip unwinding at the same time as the strips B1 and B2. It is also possible, during manufacture, to coat the back of the elementary label E1 with an activatable product ensuring bonding by humidification.
A multiple label in accordance with the invention can have other applications. It can in particular be used for advertising purposes, the impressions obviously being different from those of the example described.
For example, the elementary labels El and E2 have, on the front, identical impressions such as the brand and the designation of the product, while the label E2 has on the back a printing intended for sales promotion: discount voucher, ticket. raffle, collection sticker, etc ... In such a case, the E2 label must be kept or returned to the manufacturer, it is important that it be free of any trace of adhesive. To do this, simply reverse the order of the coatings S and A (fig. 4); that is to say to carry out the coating of adhesive on the front of the label El and the coating of the non-stick product on the back of the label
