Die Verbindungen der Formeln ll, lll und IV, die im Verfahren gemäss der Erfindung verwendbar sind, sind neue Verbindungen und können vorteilhaft und mit besonderer Leichtigkeit in industriellem Massstab hergestellt werden. Wenn in der obigen Formel n = O ist, wird ein Sulfonsäurechlorid des Benzonitrils oder ein Derivat desselben zur Sulfinsäure reduziert, die mit Äthylenoxyd kondensiert wird, wobei man eine Verbindung der Formel IV erhält, die mit schwach alkalischem Wasserstoffperoxyd zu einer Verbindung der Formel III hydrolysiert wird, die mit Formaldehyd unter den schwach alkalischen Bedingungen zu einer Verbindung der Formel 11 methyloliert wird In diesem Falle wird es bevorzugt, das m- oder p-Sulfonsäurechlorid des Benzonitrils zu verwenden;

EMI1.1
contain, in which A is -SO2- or -CO-, B is methyl, methoxy or halogen, Y is ss-sulfatoethyl or vinyl, n is 0 or 1 and m is 0 or 1, and the use thereof for dyeing fibers.
It has already been found earlier that new, valuable reactive dyes can be obtained on an industrial scale remarkably easily and in good yield if a reactive group of the formula is added to a conventional organic dye:
EMI1.2
in which Rl is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 or 2 carbon atoms, R2 is an alkylene group having 1 or 2 carbon atoms and Y is an β-sulfatoethyl group or vinyl group, by means of a one-step process. The present invention is the result of further research. A particularly outstanding feature of the present invention is that the dyes which can be prepared according to the invention can be fixed to cellulose fibers in an excellent manner.
The aim of the invention is therefore to provide new reactive dyes which can be used for dyeing cellulose fibers. Another object of the invention is to provide a method of dyeing fibers with the above-mentioned novel dyes.
Further goals will become apparent from the following text.
The new reactive dyes which contain at least one reactive group of the formula I are obtained by adding an organic dye having a hydrogen atom. which can be substituted with a reactive compound of the formula:
EMI1.3
wherein X is a hydroxyl group or a halogen atom, converting it in sulfuric acid or by reacting the dye with a compound of the formula:
EMI2.1
or the formula:
EMI2.2
in the presence of formaldehyde in sulfuric acid.
The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of new reactive compounds of the formula:
EMI2.3
by hydrolysis of a compound of the formula:
EMI2.4
with weakly alkaline hydrogen peroxide to a compound of the formula:
EMI2.5
which is then subjected to N-methylolation or N-halomethylolation.
The organic dyes which can be used in the process according to the invention include various known dyes having substitutable hydrogen atoms, such as anthraquinone dyes, mono- or disazo dyes, metal-containing azo dyes, phthalocyanine dyes, aminonaphthalimide dyes, xanthene dyes, etc. The substitutable hydrogen atoms include hydrogen atoms bonded to aryl nuclei and Hydrogen atoms contained in sulfonamide groups.

In this case, it is preferred that the aryl nucleus bears a radical, such as methyl, methoxy, etc., in addition to a substitutable hydrogen atom in the p-position. The anthraclinone nucleus can also be further substituted by sulfonic acid groups, halogen atoms, hydroxyl groups, amino groups, acetylamino groups, etc.

Examples of phthalocyanine dyes are the phthalocyanine dyes of copper, cobalt and nickel listed below: Phthalocyanine-3,3'-bis- (N-phenylsulfonamide) -3 ", -3" disulfonic acid, phthalocyanine-3,3'-bis-sulfonamide- 3 ", 3" -disulfonic acid, phthalocyanine-3-N-methylsulfonamide-3'-sulfonic acid, phthalocyanine-3,3'-bis-sulfonamide-3 "-N-phenylsulfonamide-3" -sulfonic acid, phthalocyanine-3,3 ' -bis-N- (p-sulfamylphenyl) -sulfonamide-3 ", 3" -disulfonic acid, phthalocyanine-4,4'bis-N-phenylsulfonamide-4 ", 4" -disulfonic acid, 4,4'-bisphenyloxyphthalocyanine, 4, 4'-bisphenylthiophthalocyanine, 3,3'-bisphenylaminomethylphthalocyanine, 3,3'-bisphenylaminomethylphthalocyanine-3 "-sulfonic acid.
In addition, amino-N-phenylnaphthalimide sulfonic acid and rhodamine dyes with sulfamyl groups, etc. can also be used.
As is clear from the above, an organic dye which can be used in the process according to the invention has a substitutable hydrogen atom on the aryl nucleus or on a sulfamyl group, and the introduction of a reactive group of the formula I by reacting the organic dye with a reactive compound of the formula 11 or a compound of Formula III or IV and formaldehyde under the reaction conditions given below are carried out by replacing the substitutable hydrogen atom mentioned.
The compounds of the formulas II, III and IV which can be used in the process according to the invention are new compounds and can advantageously and with particular ease be prepared on an industrial scale. If n = O in the above formula, a sulfonic acid chloride of benzonitrile or a derivative thereof is reduced to sulfinic acid, which is condensed with ethylene oxide to give a compound of formula IV which hydrolyzes with weakly alkaline hydrogen peroxide to give a compound of formula III which is methylolated with formaldehyde under the weakly alkaline conditions to give a compound of formula II. In this case it is preferred to use the m- or p-sulfonic acid chloride of benzonitrile;
possible substituents are methyl, methoxy and halogen.
On the other hand, if n list, aminophenyl-p-hydroxyethyl sulfone or its derivatives are acylated with cyanobenzenesulfonic acid chloride or cyanobenzenecarboxylic acid chloride to give a compound of the formula IV which is hydrolyzed to the compound of the formula III.
The compound of the formula III is methylolated with formaldehyde under weakly alkaline conditions, the compound of the formula 11 being obtained. It is preferred to use the m- or p-Cyanbenzenesulfonsäurechlorid or the m- or p-Cyanbenzolcarbonsäurechlord, where the Cyanbenzenesulfonsäurechloride or Cyanbenzolcarbonsäurechloride can have substituents such as methyl, methoxy, chlorine etc., while one as derivatives of the aminophenyl-5-hydroxyethylsulfons such with substituents such as methyl, methoxy, chlorine, carboxyl, etc. can use.
If X is a halogen atom in the compound of the formula li, the compound of the formula 11, regardless of whether n = 0 or. list, can easily be obtained by reacting a compound of formula III with symmetrical dichloromethyl ether or symmetrical dibromomethyl ether in sulfuric acid, and in this case the sulfuric acid solution can be used as it is in the reaction with the dye body.
The introduction of a reactive group of the formula 1, in which Y is l1-sulfatoethyl, by reacting a reactive compound of the formula 11 with the various dyes mentioned above can be carried out in sulfuric acid, preferably in 80 to 1 Oü0loiger sulfuric acid with a molar ratio of reactive compound to dye of 1 to 3 and a reaction temperature of 0 to 60 "C, preferably 10 to 20" C, for 1 to 20 hours. The end of the reaction can be followed by the disappearance of the dye body in the paper chromatogram (using, for example, a solution of n-butanol, ethanol and water at a volume ratio of 3: 1: 1 as developing agent).
After the reaction has ended, the reaction product is poured into ice water and salted out with inorganic salts, such as, for example, common salt and potassium chloride, the product precipitating out. Anionic surfactants can be added in an amount of up to 5 or 6% based on the dye, and stirring can be used to facilitate filtration.
If the product is sparingly soluble in water, it may or may not be sulfonated with fuming sulfuric acid after isolation.
It is not necessary to have a ready-made connection as a reactive connection. of formula II to use, son countries can also use compounds which, like the compounds of formula III or IV in sulfuric acid, can be converted into such a reactive compound under suitable conditions.
If a compound of the formula III or the formula IV is used instead of a compound of the formula 11, the reaction can be carried out by adding formaldehyde in the form of formalin, paraformaldehyde or a dihalomethyl ether, which is a condensation product of formaldehyde and hydrogen halide, in a molar ratio of 1 : Add 1, based on the amount of the compound of the formula III or IV, to sulfuric acid in which a compound of the formula III or IV is dissolved simultaneously with the abovementioned dyes.
The sulfuric acid concentration, the reaction temperature, the reaction time and the aftertreatment can in this case be exactly the same as when using a reactive compound of the formula 11. The dyes thus obtained can, if necessary, be treated with weak alkalis, whereby the B-sulfatoethyl group easily changes into the vinyl group can be transferred.
It has been found that the new dyes obtained in this way can be fixed firmly to fibers, with particularly excellent fastness properties being obtained when the fibers are dyed with the dyes under the suitable dyeing conditions explained below. The present new dyes can be easily produced on an industrial scale.
The present invention is therefore of great importance from the industrial point of view.
Fiber materials which can be dyed according to the invention are cellulose fibers, such as cotton, hemp, rayon, rayon, etc., and nitrogen-containing fibers, such as wool. Silk. Polyamide etc. A wide variety of dyeing processes can be used, such as the usual dip dyeing, printing, padding, etc.
Dip dyeing of cellulose fibers is carried out by adding an inorganic salt, such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, etc., to an acid-binding agent, such as sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, sodium phosphate, etc. in the presence of an acid-binding agent 60 to 90 C colors.
Pad dyeing can be carried out by padding in an aqueous solution containing the dye dissolved in water, in the presence of urea, with a solution containing an acid-binding agent such as sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate. Sodium hydroxide, sodium phosphate, etc.
contains, treated simultaneously with the padding or afterwards and steamed or heated for a short time
Printing can be carried out by printing a printing paste on the fibers, which can be obtained by adding the dye and one of the above acid binding agents to a paste such as alkyl cellulose, sodium alginate, etc., followed by steaming or heating, or by printing the fiber with a printing paste that does not contain an acid-binding agent, then treating it with an acid-binding agent and then steaming or heating
The dyeing of nitrogen-containing fibers can be carried out in neutral to weakly acidic dye liquors in a known manner, and in this case a nitrogen-containing, nonionic, surface-active agent or a cation-active, surface-active agent can be added as a dyeing aid,
and after dyeing, the dye liquor can be neutralized with a weak alkali such as hexamethylenetetramine.
It is preferred to remove dye which does not adhere to the fiber by soaping. The dyed materials obtained in this way have particularly excellent values of the most varied of fastness properties.
