Detergents and cleaning agents
The invention relates to a detergent and cleaning agent in the form of an aqueous solution for washing dishes and for washing fabrics and for other uses in which aqueous cleaning liquids are required.
Aqueous cleaning liquids are usually prepared by adding a required amount of water to an aqueous concentrate in the form of a liquid detergent composition of water and one or more detergent substances. Such
Substances are often referred to as the active ingredient in such mixtures. It usually needs a liquid
Detergent mixture meet certain requirements with regard to its viscosity and the clear point so that it is acceptable to the end user. In addition, it is often also necessary to ensure that an initially highly concentrated liquid
Detergent mixture can be diluted with more water to a less concentrated mixture (based on the content of active ingredients) without the viscosity changing undesirably.
The difficulty that can arise is that a dilution of highly concentrated mixtures, as they are desired for handling during manufacture and transport, to less concentrated mixtures with a concentration of active ingredient according to the ultimate requirements of the end user can lead to greatly reduced viscosity of the mixture, so that the diluted mixture no longer has the viscosity properties of a concentrate, and from the point of view of the end user this can be associated with handling problems and the disadvantage that the diluted mixture no longer looks like a concentrate.
This difficulty can be particularly noticeable in those detergent compositions which contain an alkylarylsulfonate detergent and one or more detergents such as primary or secondary alcohol ethoxylate or ethoxysulfate detergents, and also alkylphenol ethoxylate detergents.
In general, it has been found that it is necessary to add a solubilizer to detergent mixtures of the specified type in which there is a relatively high concentration of active ingredient. The solubilizer has the effect that the content of the active component becomes water-soluble and the mixture is homogeneous at the temperatures that normally prevail during transport and storage of the mixtures.
It is common in the art to define a clear point for detergent compositions; The clear point is understood to mean the lowest temperature at which the mixture in aqueous solution is in such a state that no visible precipitation of one or more of the components can be recognized; an acceptable clearing point for detergent compositions to which the present invention relates is 5 "C (or less). Known solubilizers are the sodium, potassium, and ammonium salts of alkyl-substituted arylsulfonic acids. such as toluenesulfonic acid or xylenesulfonic acid such a solubilizer there is a risk that the difficulty with regard to the decrease in viscosity on dilution becomes greater.
These solubilizers are not considered an active ingredient in the present description.
The invention is based on the object of avoiding the aforementioned difficulties with regard to the decrease in viscosity on dilution. This object is achieved by means of a detergent composition of the type specified, which is characterized according to the invention in that it contains an inorganic water-soluble salt of a divalent or trivalent metal.
The invention accordingly provides a detergent in the form of an aqueous solution of one or more alkylarylsulfonates and one or more detergents made from ethoxylates or ethoxysulfates of primary or secondary alcohols or ethoxylates of alkylphenols or mixtures thereof, the solution additionally being an inorganic water-soluble salt of two - or trivalent metal.
Chlorides or sulfates of, for example, copper, zinc, aluminum, calcium or magnesium are preferably contained therein as salts. The addition of magnesium chloride or magnesium sulfate is particularly suitable. As a solubilizer, an alkali derivative of an alkylarylsulfonic acid whose alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, for example sodium xylene sulfonate, or an aliphatic alcohol with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a lower alcohol, for example isopropyl alcohol, can particularly advantageously be used in the detergent mixture according to the invention. or a mixture of these substances.
Suitable alkylarylsulfonate detergents are alkali, ammonium or amine salts of alkylbenzene or alkylnaphthalenesulfonic acids, in which the alkyl substituent preferably contains 8 to 16 carbon atoms and, particularly advantageously, a linear, ie. H. is straight-chain alkyl group. Primary or secondary are preferred
Alcohol ethoxylates are those of the general formula R (OC2H4) nOH, in which R is an alkyl group with 8 to 18 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 6 to 12.
However, the mixtures according to the invention are not limited to the fact that these particularly advantageous compounds are present; rather, they can also contain other alcohol ethoxylates which are derived from alcohols with less than 8 or more than
18 carbon atoms are derived and have fewer than 6 or more than 12 condensed ethylene oxide basic molecules. Suitable primary or secondary Alko holäthoxysulfate can be represented by the general formula Rl-O- (C, H40) n-SO M, where R 'is an alkyl group with 8 to 18 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 2 to 5 and M a Mean alkali atom, an ammonium group or an amine residue.
However, the alkyl group Rl can alternatively also be less than 8 or more than 18
Contain carbon atoms, and likewise n can represent an integer greater than 5, for example 7 or 8.
The preferred alkylphenol ethoxylates are C8 to C8, alkylphenols which are condensed with 2 to 5 moles of ethylene oxide.
In general, the agent according to the invention consists of between 10 and 50% of active substances in total, and the optimal content of solubilizer is between 0 and 30% by weight, based on the total content of active substance present in the detergent composition, or higher. The required amount of the calcium or magnesium compound present according to the invention is determined on the one hand by the type of detergent mixture to which these compounds are added and on the other hand by the viscosity / dilution properties which one wishes to achieve.
As indicated above, the effect of adding, for example, a calcium or magnesium salt to a detergent mixture of the type indicated is that the viscosity of the resulting mixture decreases more slowly and often considerably more slowly than if no calcium or magnesium salt were present.
In some cases, the viscosity of such a mixture can actually increase when diluted. It can be determined by simple preliminary tests how much divalent or trivalent metal salt has to be added to a detergent mixture containing a certain amount of active substance in order to keep the viscosities of the mixture at the desired values before and after dilution. For example, it is easy to determine how much of this additive has to be added to a mixture containing 50% active substance in the initial state before dilution so that its viscosity is within acceptable limits.
Quite generally, amounts of 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the weight of the solution, can be used, the preferred amounts being between 1 and 5% by weight.
example 1
Four concentrated detergent mixtures were prepared from (1) a sodium C8-Ca3 alkylbenzenesulfonate and (2) a detergent compound as specified below. Each mixture contained 30% by weight of active substance (A.M.) and was prepared in duplicate, with magnesium sulfate being added in the specified amounts (based on the active substance) to one batch. On the one hand, four mixtures (A), which had no added salt, and, on the other hand, four mixtures (B), which contained magnesium sulfate, were obtained. Three of these mixtures also contained sodium xylene sulfonate as a solubilizer in the specified amounts, and one of these mixtures also contained isopropyl alcohol. The percentages by weight given for these additives are calculated on the active substance.
The clear points of each of Mixtures B were determined and the viscosities (in centistokes at 20 C) of each of Mixtures A and B were determined both before and after dilution with water to 15% active substance (15% AM) . The results are shown in Table I.
