U
UM = UR = ¯¯¯¯
2
Smoke detector device
The present invention relates to a smoke detector device comprising at least one ionization chamber constituting a measuring chamber associated with a detection circuit and in which the ambient air has access, at least one radioactive source for the production of ions. necessary for the ionization of the chamber, the detection circuit triggering an alarm device when the conductivity of the air in the measuring chamber decreases.
These detectors use a well-known principle according to which the attachment of gaseous ions to aerosol particles lowers the mobility of the ions and thus decreases the conductivity of the ionized air. These detectors include a measuring chamber and a reference chamber, the reference chamber being able to be replaced by a simple resistance. The imbalance of the voltages at the terminals of the electrodes of the two chambers, respectively of the measuring chamber and of the resistance, is detected by means of a transistor, in more recent embodiments by means of a field effect transistor.
The devices used hitherto are permanently fixed in the premises to be monitored and their detection circuit acts on a relay which communicates a signal to a central alarm station. The installation of these detectors therefore requires the laying of special wires and these devices are ill suited to marketing in the form of household appliances.
The present invention précispourbutsiecreer a handy household appliance of reduced bulk. It relates to a smoke detector device comprising at least one ionization chamber constituting a measuring chamber associated with a detection circuit and to which the ambient air has access, at least one radioactive source for the production of ions. necessary for the ionization of the chamber, the detection circuit triggering an alarm device when the conductivity of the air in the measuring chamber decreases, characterized by the fact that the measuring chamber is fixed to a housing housing an oscillator triggered by the detection circuit and an electrbacooustic warning device excited by the oscillator.

FIG. 4 represents the electrical diagram of the comparison.
The apparatus shown essentially comprises a box 1 housing a storage battery 2 and a high bet 3 supplied by a transistorized oscillator through a transformer 4, and a transformer 5 associated with a rectifier circuit for charging the storage battery. 2, a socket 6 being provided for this purpose. The housing has rubber feet 7 and 8 as well as means, not shown, for hanging the device from a wall. Engaging in the housing is rotatably mounted a tubular support 9 angled and carrying at its end a detector head.
This head comprises a cylindrical casing 11 welded to the tube 9 closed at the rear by a removable cover 12 and carrying at the front a ring 13 carrying on the one hand a protective mesh 14 and on the other hand, inside of the ring, a mesh 15 acting as an electrode and allowing sufficient circulation of the ambient air in the measuring chamber 16. The grid 15 is therefore connected to ground.
In the casing 11 is fitted a support of insulating material 17, for example nylon, in the form of a sleeve bearing on the one hand a printed circuit 18 carrying the elements of the detection circuit and on the other hand a metal barrel 19 carrying a threaded rod 20 at the end of which is fixed a metal disc 21 constituting one of the electrodes of the reference chamber 22 of the detector. In front of the sleeve 17 is fixed a plate of insulating material 23 supporting the other electrode 24 of the reference chamber and the electrode 25 of the measuring chamber united in one and the same piece, the electrode 24 being constituted by a disk parallel to disk 21, while electrode 25 has an elongated cylindrical shape located in the axis of the mesh of cylindrical 15.
The electrode 25 carries two radioactive sources 26 and 27, while the electrode 24 carries a radioactive source 28. A ring 20 also axially retains the sleeve 17 retained at the rear by a cover 12. The assembly is easily assembled by fitting the parts together. The electrode 21 is connected to the printed circuit by a metal strip.
This head has in particular the following advantages, on the one hand the possibility of adjusting the distance between the electrodes 21 and 24 of the reference chamber by acting on the threaded rod 20 which is easy to reach by removing the cover. 12, thus making it possible to adjust the balancing of the voltages of the two chambers, on the other hand the deep concentric undulations 30 of the plate 23 intended to increase the distance, measured on the surface of the plate between the electrode 25 and the casing conductive 11, thus reducing the risks of parasitic conductivity being established on this surface as a result of the deposition of conductive dust.
The device further comprises a switch 31 making it possible to interrupt the alarm and carry out checks on the device as well as a flashing lamp 32 with bi-metallic contact, mounted in series with the loudspeaker 3, for get a discontinuous alarm.
The obliqueness of the orientable support 9 is such that the measuring chamber is located outside the perimeter of the housing in most positions of the support as shown in FIG. 2. It is in fact appropriate that, when the device is placed by example on a cabinet that the measuring chamber goes beyond the edge of the cabinet so that it is quickly reached by ascending fumes, which would not be the case if the head were located in the perimeter of the box, that is that is to say sheltered in a way by this box.
The circuit of the apparatus shown in FIG. 4 comprises two parts: the detection circuit I mounted on a printed circuit 18 in the detection head and an alarm and power supply circuit II mounted in the housing, these circuits being linked together by a cable housed in the support 9.
The supply voltage U is distributed between the chambers 16 and 22 so as to have approximately
U
UM = UR = ¯¯¯¯
2
This adjustment is made by varying the distance between the electrodes 21 and 24. Using a Trimmer T, we vary the base current of a transistor T2 which controls the current in a voltage divider R1 and R2 varies the voltage of Us of the source of a field effect transistor T1. This transistor T1, conducts as soon as UM is greater than Us. When the resistance of the measuring chamber 16 increases UM increases making the transistor T1 conductive. The drain D of this transistor is connected to the base of a transistor T3, which is normally blocked.
But when T1 conducts, a voltage is applied between the emitter and the base of T3 which itself becomes a conductor and powers the oscillator.
This oscillator comprises two transistors T4 and T5 mounted push-pull supplying, through transformer 4, loudspeaker 3.
A capacitor C, mounted in parallel with the chamber 16, is intended to absorb short-term disturbances which may cause a false alarm.
The food is mixed. It includes batteries 2 in continuous maintenance charge supplied by a rectifier bridge R, ensuring autonomy in the event of a network failure.
It should also be noted that the geometry of the chambers 16 and 22 is such that the reference chamber 22 is saturated but not the chamber 16. This has the effect of increasing the sensitivity of the system because one works in a slightly inclined part of the system. the curve of the voltage Un as a function of the current, which results in a strong variation in the voltage for a relatively small variation in the conductivity of the chamber 16, that is to say of the current.
The device described can be implemented in multiple variants, for example with power supply only from the network, with battery power only. In addition, a luminous device can be provided to indicate that the battery is discharged. As for the detector head, it can be fixed in an embodiment intended to be fixed to the ceiling, for example, in place of a lamp, the switch being in this case preferably constituted by a push button which can be actuated vertically.
