Electro-magnetic device for selecting parts of a knitting machine
The subject of the invention is an electro-magnetic device for selecting the members of a knitting machine comprising a channel, in which the members to be selected pass, this channel having a narrowing inlet, limited by the poles of a pair of antagonistic electromagnets attracting said members against one or the other of the sides of the channel, followed by an exit going by widening against the sides of which said members are held by magnetic bonding after their selection by the electro - magnets.
Magnetic bonding can be ensured by soft iron pole pieces associated with two permanent magnets placed on each side of the channel. While this solution is satisfactory from a theoretical point of view, it turns out in practice that it can lead to selection errors. When the selectors, which follow each other at a short distance, are distributed very unevenly between the two flanks of the channel, an imbalance such as the magnetic field can occur, moreover weakened by the selectors already glued, that the maintenance by gluing of the good side of the channel of a new selector arriving at this time is not assured.
The purpose of the device according to the invention is precisely to remedy this drawback. It is characterized by the fact that the flanks of said outlet are formed in part, on each side, by two pole pieces of opposite polarity connected to at least one permanent magnet, the pole pieces of the same polarity being linked together by a magnetically element. permeable, while the pole pieces of opposite polarity are separated by non-magnetic hard metal pieces flush with the flanks and extending throughout the channel.
The hard metal parts serve on the one hand as a separation between the pole pieces and on the other hand prevent rapid wear thereof, thus making it possible to use soft iron, with good permeability and not exhibiting residual magnetization.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a sectional view along I-I of lafig. 2.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view partially broken away.
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view according to
III-III of fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a sectional view according to
IV-IV of fig. 2.
The device shown comprises a base plate 1 in a recess of which are arranged three superimposed parts. A U-shaped piece 2 of good magnetic permeability, for example made of mild steel, a permanent magnet 3 magnetized in the vertical direction, preferably made of ironstone and a plate 4 of the same material as the piece 2.
On the one hand, two antagonistic electromagnets 5 and 6 are fixed on the plate 1, the hard metal ramps 7 and 8 of which form the entrance narrowing by a channel 9. On the plate 1 are on the other hand fixed pole pieces limiting the flanks 10 and 11 of the second part of the channel against which the selectors 12, which run through the channel, are held by magnetic bonding after their selection by one or the other of the electromagnets 5 and 6. The left half of fig. 1 represents the sidewall 10, the sidewall 11 being symmetrical with respect to the axis of the channel. A first pole piece 13 rests on the plate 4. On the piece 13 is disposed a non-magnetic hard metal strip 14 extending from one end of the channel to the other and to which corresponds an identical piece 15 in the. 'other side of the channel (see also fig. 4).
On the part 14 bears a second pole piece 16 magnetically connected to the part 2. These pole pieces are preferably made of soft iron and the whole is assembled by means of screws and nuts.
The pole pieces of each input and output system are separated by brass plates 17 and 18 of thickness less than that of the selectors 12.
The shape of the channel in its narrowest part has been designed to ensure the greatest possible safety in the selection. For this purpose, the sides 19 and 20 are parallel so as to ensure the widest possible contact with the relatively narrow sides of the selectors. In addition, so as to obtain a lateral acceleration as low as possible of the selectors when they pass over the oblique part of the flanks 10 and 11 of the outlet of the channel, acceleration which can cause the selectors to take off, the latter having a tendency to continue by inertia a path parallel to the axis of the channel, the sides 19 and 20 are connected to the sides 10 and 11 by a curve, for example by an arc of a circle.
The selection device described can be used both for a circular knitting machine and for a rectilinear machine.
