Fig. 2 eine erste Ausführungsvariante der erwähnten Einrichtung,
Fig. 4 eine dritte Ausführungsvariante der erwähnten Einrichtung.
Method and device for the automatic control of the electrical operating state of a thermal system with a device for generating and guiding the electron beam
The present invention relates to a method for automatically regulating the electrical operating state of a thermal system with a device for generating and guiding the electron beam, the thermal emission cathode of which is fed by a current-stabilized supply source, and a device for performing this method.
Means are known for feeding devices for generating and guiding electron beams with thermo-emission cathodes, which ensure a constant feed current value and contain a control unit for the current-stabilized feed source of the device.
One shortcoming of these known feed devices is that they cannot guarantee the stabilization of the electrical operating state of the electron beam system and thus also of the entire system. These devices do not provide the system with any protection against overvoltages that arise when the conductivity in the device for generating and guiding the electron beam changes.
The invention was based on the object of developing a method for automatically regulating the operating state of a device for generating and guiding the electron beam fed by a current-stabilized supply source and a device for implementing this method which automatically regulates the operating state of the device for generating and guiding of the electron beam, as well as ensuring their protection in the event of disturbed operation, which can result from a change in their conductivity.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the conductivity of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam is kept constant at a predetermined level by changing the temperature of the thermal emission cathode.
The cathode temperature can expediently be changed as a function of the heat radiation from the surface of the product being heated.
The device for carrying out the above-mentioned regulation method, which contains a control unit for controlling the current-stabilized supply source for the device for generating and guiding the electron beam as well as a control unit for controlling the cathode supply source, according to the invention has a conductivity testing unit for the conductivity testing of the above-mentioned device, the The output of this conductivity test unit for keeping the predetermined conductivity value of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam constant is connected to at least one of the aforementioned units.
It is also advisable to connect the conductivity test unit to a probe which is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the thermal emission cathode, and to provide a supply source for the conductivity test unit in which one pole is connected to the probe and the other to the thermal emission cathode.
The conductivity test unit can expediently also be provided with a device for controlling the voltage generated by the current-stabilized supply source or with a device for controlling the temperature of at least one of the bodies which, when the heat flow changes from the surface of the heated product to the surface of the thermoemission cathode contribute.
The method according to the invention and the device for carrying it out make it possible to automatically regulate the electrical operating state of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam and thereby to increase the performance of the entire thermal system and the quality of the products. They allow the system to be protected in the event of a malfunction, as well as to facilitate the working conditions of the operating personnel and to reduce the number of operating personnel.
In the following three embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. It shows:
1 shows a block diagram of the device constructed according to the invention for automatic control of the electrical operating state of a thermal system,
2 shows a first variant embodiment of the device mentioned,
3 shows a second variant embodiment of the device mentioned, and
4 shows a third variant embodiment of the device mentioned.
When the device for generating and guiding the electron beam in a thermal electron beam system is fed from a supply source that supplies a constant current intensity to the load, the performance of the system and the magnitude of the supply source voltage are determined by the conductivity of the radiation device mentioned. An increase in the conductivity of this device leads to a drop in the voltage of the supply source, on the other hand, if the conductivity of the device mentioned, the voltage of the supply source increases.
Thus, a change in conductivity in the radiation device caused by any cause leads to fluctuations in its performance. In the event of a significant decrease in conductivity, the voltage of the supply source can reach a value that is dangerous for normal operation of the apparatus.
In an operating mode of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam that differs from the operating mode with current limitation by the space charge, which is characteristic of most thermal electron beam systems used in industry, the changes in conductivity in the device mentioned caused by a change in the cathode temperature and the contamination of the cathode surface with vapors from the heated product.
Changes in the cathode temperature can be the result of a change in the power that is absorbed by this cathode from its supply source in the event of voltage fluctuations in the supply network.
In a number of known thermal systems, the thermal emission cathode and the heated product are in the zone of mutual irradiation. In this case, the cathode temperature and consequently also the conductivity of the system is determined both by the power absorbed by the thermal emission cathode from the supply source and by the resulting heat flow from the surface of the heated product to the thermal emission cathode, the strength of this heat flow being determined by the temperature of the heated product Product and thus depends on the performance of the system.
In the event of flashovers between the thermal emission cathode and the anode and the appearance of a gas discharge between the electrodes of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam (which is characteristic of most industrial plants), the power destroyed by the heated product is reduced, whereby the temperature of the product is reduced . The same thing happens in the event of a shutdown of the system caused by any cause. The heat flow from the surface of the heated product to the thermoemission cathode is also weaker, which causes a lowering of the cathode temperature and thus a reduction in the conductivity of the system with an unchanging power of the cathode supply source.
When the supply voltage is restored or when the system's supply source is switched on again, dangerous overvoltages can arise in its circuit elements.
In some technological processes, e.g. B. when melting a lumpy charge, there are periodic temperature changes on the surface of the metal melt and thus periodic changes in the resulting heat flow from this surface to the cathode. If the power of the cathode supply source remains constant, this leads to power fluctuations in the system. The contamination of the cathode surface by vapors of the material mentioned causes a reduction in the current density in the cathode thermal emission and a reduction in the conductivity of the system, whereby this leads to an inadmissible increase in voltage when feeding from a current source with a constant current value in the load and with constant power of the cathode heating the circuit elements of the supply sources.
To stabilize the electrical operating state of the device for generating and guiding the electron beam in a thermal system and to prevent its emergency operation, a method for automatic control can be used, in which the specified conductivity level in the system is achieved by changing the cathode temperature by changing the power of the cathode supply source is kept constant. In cases where the thermal emission cathode and the product to be heated are in the zone of mutual irradiation, the temperature of the thermal emission cathode is changed depending on the change in the heat flow from the surface of the heated product.
The block diagram of the device for carrying out the described method for automatic control of the electrical operating state of a thermal electron beam system is shown in FIG.
As can be seen from the drawing, the device for generating and guiding the electron beam 1 of the above-mentioned system is fed by a current source 2 with a constant current intensity, this current source being controlled by a first control unit 3. The thermal emission cathode of the radiation device 1 is fed by the cathode feed source 4 provided for this cathode, the cathode feed source in turn being controlled by a second control unit 5.
The conductivity of the radiation device is monitored by a conductivity testing unit 6.
If there is a change in efficiency, e.g. B. when the conductivity of the device is lowered, the conductivity test unit 6 influences the control unit 5 of the cathode supply source 4 and as a result the power of the cathode supply source 4 required for heating the thermoemission cathode is increased, thus increasing the temperature of the cathode and the specified temperature The conductivity value of the device 1 is restored.
In the event of severe contamination of the cathode surface or because of the inertia of the automatic control system, the conductivity of the installation can decrease further, despite the increase in the power output by the cathode supply source 4, which is used for cathode heating. In this way, the voltage of the supply source 2 for the radiation device can reach a value which can be dangerous for the operation of the system. The conductivity test unit 6 acts on the control unit 3 of the supply source of the electron beam system in such a way that the supply source for the radiation device switches off, preventing it from being switched on again for the time required to restore the conductivity value specified for the radiation device 1.
The block diagram of a variant of the device is shown in FIG. As shown in the drawing, the system contains a probe 7 which is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the cathode and which is connected to a measuring device 9 via a probe feed source 8. The probe supply source 8 and the measuring device for measuring the current 9 caused by the deposition on the probe 7 are components of the conductivity test unit 6.
The use of the conductivity test unit 6 designed in this way offers the possibility of checking the conductivity of the radiation device 1 directly, specifically by measuring the current flowing through the probe 7 during normal operation or when the anode voltage is suspended.
The block diagram of another embodiment of the device in question is shown in FIG. As can be seen from the drawing, the conductivity test unit 6 in this case has a device 10 for checking the voltage generated by the supply source 2 of the electron beam system 1, e.g. B. a maximum voltage relay, and a device 11 for controlling the cathode feed, the z. B. contains a minimum current relay and a timing relay.
The conductivity test unit 6 implemented according to this variant provides the possibility of indirectly monitoring the conductivity of the radiation device.
In the case of changes in conductivity in the device, which are caused by contamination of the cathode surface by vapors from the heated product or by changes in the heat flow from the surface of the heated product to the cathode, the conductivity of the radiation device is checked by the voltage control device 10 depending on the voltage changes at the supply source 2 of the device 1. In the event of a change in the conductivity of the device 1, which occurs as a result of a change in the power consumed by the thermo-emission cathode from the cathode supply source 4, the conductivity of the device 1 is controlled with the aid of the device 11 for controlling the cathode supply.
To prevent the system from being switched on when the cathode is insufficiently warm, the conductivity test unit 6 has a timing relay that only allows the radiation device's supply source to be switched on after a period of time that is necessary from the time the cathode supply source is switched on until the cathode is fully heated.
4 shows the block diagram of a further embodiment of the device, in which the conductivity test unit 6 has a device 12 for monitoring the temperature of bodies that are involved in the change in the heat flow from the surface of the heated product to the cathode .
Such a device can e.g. B. be a photoelectric pyrometer. In this case, the conductivity of the system is controlled by remote measurement of the cathode temperature or the temperature of the heated product or any other body that participates in the heat exchange by radiation, e.g. B. a focusing electrode.
