Fire extinguisher
The known fire extinguishers are usually provided with an expensive valve closure at the opening of the extinguishing container, which is firmly connected to the container, since the extinguishing substance under high pressure in the container or the propellant for the extinguishing substance constantly acts directly on the valve. In order to put this extinguishing container into action in the event of danger, it is necessary to unscrew the valves in a known manner.
It has also become known to use fire extinguishers, in particular hand-held fire extinguishers, in which the container opening is not closed directly by a valve, but rather by a thin sealing cap made of sheet metal or the like that sits firmly on the fire extinguisher. Above this closure cap there is an attachment with an axially displaceable, pointed pin with which the closure cap can be pierced so that the fire extinguishing agent can then pass out of the container through corresponding channels provided in the attachment. But this fire extinguisher also has the disadvantage that the attachment is firmly connected to the container, so that, for cost reasons, using the fire extinguisher as a disposable one would be too expensive anyway.
The object of the invention is therefore to create a fire extinguisher, in particular a hand-held fire extinguisher, in which use as a disposable container that no longer needs to be refilled after use is justifiable in terms of costs.
To achieve this object, the invention is based on the known fire extinguisher, the container opening of which is provided with a closure cap and which carries an attachment with an axially displaceable opening pin above the closure cap. In contrast to known fire extinguishers of this type, however, the invention provides that the attachment is designed to be easy to place on and remove from the closure cap.
This creates the possibility of throwing away the actual container as a disposable part after the fire extinguisher has been used, but not the attachment, which can be easily replaced on a newly acquired fire extinguisher.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the attachment is attached to the closure cap by a clamping effect. An embodiment is preferably selected for this in which the attachment surrounds the closure cap from the outside in the manner of a cylinder. If necessary, incisions can be provided in this cylinder part of the attachment, which increase the elasticity of the cylinder part.
The attachment can essentially consist of plastic, with only the axially displaceable pin and the spring loading it being made of metal as usual.
The fire extinguisher shown in the drawing as an embodiment of the invention consists of an elongated container 1 of circular cylindrical shape for the extinguishing agent or the propellant. The container tapers slightly towards the top, the remaining opening 2 being tightly closed by a sealing cap 3 made of sheet metal. An attachment 4 made of plastic is placed on this closure cap and encompasses the closure cap 3 from the outside in the manner of a cylinder by means of a clamping effect. The cylinder-like part 4a of the attachment has incisions 5 running in the axial direction, which serve to increase the elasticity of the cylinder part 4a so that it can be placed more easily on the closure cap 3.
Arranged in the center of the attachment is an axially displaceable pin 6 which carries a push button 7 at its upper end and is designed as a needle tip 6a at its lower end. A coil spring 10 holds the pin 6 in the open position. To put the fire extinguisher into operation, the cap 3 is pierced with this pin 6, so that the extinguishing agent 8 under pressure in the container 1 can escape through the riser 9 and through-flow channels 12 provided in the attachment 4. For easier actuation of the pin 6, the attachment 4 also has a handle rim 11.
After using the fire extinguisher, the attachment 4 can be removed and placed on a replacement container that has not yet been used. The used container is thrown away as a disposable container.
