Nail with a large head diameter in relation to the shaft diameter
The invention relates to a further embodiment of the nail with a head diameter which is large in relation to the shaft diameter according to the claim of the main patent.
If a nail described in the main patent penetrates the receiving material at an angle, the nail at its transition point from the shank to the head is heavily loaded due to the increased torque due to shear and bending stress, with any excess driving energy or residual energy present, whereby the nail head can be torn off from the shank . Apart from the hazards caused by this, the demolished nail fails as a load-bearing fastening element.
With the nail according to the main patent, it was possible to overcome these disadvantages in that the nail shaft is widened concavely towards the head over a length of its rear section corresponding approximately to the shaft diameter d and the widening curve rises only gently in the first and second thirds and becomes steeper in the third third Head circumference runs out, which is formed by an edge surrounding the head and flat relative to the head height.
The nail according to the invention is characterized in that the upper outer surface of the nail head ends in a shoulder with a diameter that essentially corresponds to the shaft diameter.
With particular advantage, the end face of the attachment can extend in a plane normal to the nail axis. The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the figure reproducing it for example.
The nail 1 has a concave widened section 3, a head 4 and a flat edge 5 running around it, adjoining the cylindrical shaft 2.
On the end face of the nail head, a projection 6 is provided, the diameter of which essentially corresponds to the shaft diameter. In the case shown, this approach has an end face 7 which extends in a plane normal to the nail axis.
The dashed line 4a shows the shape of a club which is circumscribed by the nail head and around which the appropriately embossed head edge 5 runs, the outer diameter of which is about 2 to 3 times the shaft diameter and corresponds to the inner diameter of the setting tool
It is important that the strength of the nail's ability to absorb shear and bending forces at the transition area from the head edge 5 to the club shape 4a (point A) is less than at the transition area from shaft to head (point B), although of course at point A the greater the forces that can be absorbed, the more force-absorbing point B is.
PATENT CLAIM
Nail with a large head diameter in relation to the shaft diameter for driving into hard material by means of hand-operated or powder-operated bolt setting devices according to the patent claim of the main patent, characterized in that the upper outer surface of the nail head ends in a shoulder (6) with a diameter essentially corresponding to the shaft diameter .
