Description

Process for the production of chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution and use of the solution thus obtained
The subject of patent no. 481 839 is a process for the production of chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution from sodium chlorite and acid, in particular hydrochloric acid, which is characterized in that an at least 10% NaClO2 solution is at least 10% acid in a molar excess of 250-300%, based on the NaClO, in the presence of at least one catalyst. Suitable catalysts are hydrogen peroxide, potassium persulfate, potassium perborate, sodium perchlorate, cobalt, nickel or copper sulfate, sodium bisulfate or sodium bisulfite.
Sodium chlorate, chromium (II) fluoride, chromium (III) chloride, organic compounds such as oxalic acid, tartaric acid, methyl alcohol and amyl acetate can also be used as further catalysts. The chlorine dioxide solution obtained through this process can be used directly for water disinfection.
While the use of at least 10% chlorite solutions and at least 10% acid was considered necessary in the process described above in order to achieve favorable reaction times and a product directly suitable for water disinfection, it has now been found that it is also advantageous to use more dilute solutions, namely at least 5 % NaClO.2 solutions and at least 5% acid can work.
The present invention therefore relates to a process for the production of chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution from sodium chloride and acid, in particular hydrochloric acid, which is characterized in that an at least 5% NaClO3 solution is at least 5% acid in a molar excess of 250 - 300%, based on the NaCIOe, in the presence of at least one catalyst to act.
The chlorine dioxide solution obtainable according to the invention can be used for water disinfection under the conditions described in the main patent.
example 1
A 5% sodium chlorite solution containing 2 g of sodium persulfate per liter is located in a first storage container. A second storage container is with
6% hydrochloric acid charged. Both solutions are fed to a reaction zone in a ratio of 1: 1 (volumes) and mixed there for about 10 minutes at room temperature. The yield of chlorine dioxide is more than
90%.
Example 2
The procedure of Example 1 is followed, but using a 7.5% sodium chloride solution and 9% hydrochloric acid. The yield of chlorine dioxide is more than 95%.
PATENT CLAIMS
I. Process for the production of chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution of sodium chlorite and acid, in particular
Hydrochloric acid, characterized in that at least a 5% sodium chlorite solution is used
5% acid in a molar excess of 250-300%, based on the NaCIOo, in the presence of at least one
Brings catalyst to act.
II. Use of the chlorine dioxide solution obtained by the process according to patent claim I for disinfecting water. keeping the pH at 7.0 to 7.4.
