Device for braking a weft thread during weaving
The invention relates to a device for braking a weft thread during weaving, with means for guiding the weft thread over a flexible strip, and at least one pressure element for pressing the weft thread against this strip for its braking.
A known device of this type is shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings. It has a flexible metal strip 11 which is fastened at one end to a stationary support member 12 and at the other end to a pivotably mounted arm 13. The weft thread 10 is guided over the strip 11 by organs 14.
To brake the weft thread 10, a pressure member, not shown, is pressed in the direction of arrow P against the weft thread and thus against the strip 11, the strip yielding and the pivotable support member being pivoted accordingly, against the resistance of a return spring 15. In the braked state of the weft thread 10, the movable parts 11 and 13 assume the position indicated by dash-dotted lines. It can be seen that in this position the strip in the case of the fixed carrier 12 is bent rather sharply. This kinking is repeated every time the weft thread is braked and leads rather quickly to fatigue of the strip at the kink. Replacing the strip does not cause high material costs; However, the repair requires a certain downtime of the loom and thus a corresponding loss of production.
This is not negligible, as experience shows that repairs have to be carried out quite often.
The invention aims to eliminate this disadvantage by a different mounting of the flexible strip in the sense that the aforementioned kink is eliminated, thus also the rapid fatigue of this strip. According to the invention, this object is to be achieved in that the strip is attached to a movable support member at each of its ends. The support members preferably consist of pivotably mounted arms, at a free end, of which one or the other end of the strip is attached, so that when the weft thread is pressed against the strip, the arms move against each other with said free ends, with resilient ones Means are provided for returning the arms to their starting position when the weft thread stops pressing against the strip.
Furthermore, a support plate can be provided that limits the bending of the strip when the weft thread is pressed against it.
Figures 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings illustrate an embodiment of the device according to the invention. FIG. 2 shows this device in elevation and FIG. 3 shows it in a perspective view. The device according to FIGS. 2 and 3 has the flexible strip 21 which is fastened at each of its ends to a movable support member 22 and 23, respectively. In the known device, the weft thread 10 to be braked is guided by means of thread guides 24 in such a way that it runs over the strip 21 and at least one pressure element (not shown) is again provided with which the weft thread in the direction of arrow P (Fig. 2) is pressed against the strip when it is to be braked.
The support members each consist of a pivotably mounted arm 22 or 23, the springs 25 being provided to return the arms to their starting position when the weft thread stops pressing against the strip 21. As can be easily seen from FIGS. 2 and 3 , thanks to the fastening of the strip 21 to the pivoting arms 22 and 23, a sharp kinking of this strip and thus a fatigue of the strip is avoided.
In this device according to FIGS. 2 and 3, a support plate 26 is also provided, on which the flexible strip comes to rest when the weft thread is pressed against the same, the braking force acting on the weft thread then increasing.
