Weiterhin eignen sich Gemische verschiedener Verbindungen (a).

Process for the preparation of water-soluble condensation products
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new water-insoluble condensation products.
The preparation of water-soluble and water-insoluble condensation products from caprolactam and alkylene polyamines is known from U & atentschrift 2720508. However, these condensation products leave something to be desired in their property as textile and paper auxiliaries, since they have only a moderate affinity for textile materials and paper, so that the object of the present invention was to enrich the technology with more suitable agents of this type.
It has been found that valuable condensation products u. a. for the purposes of textile and paper finishing, if a) 1 mol of a compound of the formula IH, N- (R-NH), - H in which R is a branched or unbranched alkylene radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and n is an integer denotes from 1 to 5, the total number of all carbon atoms in the molecule being 2 to 12, with b) 1 to 1.3 r moles of e-caprolactam, where r denotes the number of primary and secondary amino groups in the molecule of the compound of the formula I, condenses with elimination of water and the intermediate condensation product obtained is allowed to react in an aqueous medium with c) 1 to 2.5 mol of epichlorohydrin per mol of basic primary and secondary amino groups present in the intermediate,
until a sample of the aqueous solution is adjusted to a content of 15 g of solid substance per 100 cm3 of solution, has a viscosity between 30 and 100 centipoise at 200 C, whereupon the solution is adjusted to a pH value below 6 by adding an acid in order to reduce the viscosity Cancel reaction.
Examples of compounds of the formula I are: ethylenediamine, 1,3-propylenediamine, hexamethylenediamine, triaminopropane, 1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane, triethylenetetramine, pentaethylene hexamine, dihexamethylene triamine and, in particular, di- (1,3-propylene) triamine, di - (1,2-propylene) -triamine and especially diethylenetriamine.
Mixtures of different compounds (a) are also suitable.
The reaction of the compounds (a) with the e-caprolactam, which takes place with elimination of water, can be carried out by heating the components to temperatures between 150 and 280, preferably 200 to 2600 C.
It is advisable to continuously remove the water from the reaction mixture. It is also advisable to work with exclusion of air to avoid undesirable discoloration, e.g. B. under a nitrogen atmosphere.
The reaction of (a) with (b) is essentially complete when no more water is split off, but it can be continued even longer beyond this point in time to further increase the degree of condensation. Starting material that has remained unchanged thereafter is advantageously removed by distillation.
The intermediate condensation product obtained in this way is, regardless of whether it is completely water-soluble or still contains water-insoluble fractions, in an aqueous medium in an initial concentration of 20 to 50 ovo in a known manner at 50 to 80 ° C. in the amount according to the definition, preferably 1, 2 to 1.6 molar equivalents of epichlorohydrin further reacted.
The amount of epichlorohydrin depends on the number of basic groups present in the intermediate condensation product, which are best determined by potentiometric titration with hydrochloric acid, the transition point for the quantitative determination of the amino groups being different depending on the polyamine used. In the case of polyamines with weakly basic secondary amino groups, such as. B. diethylenetriamine, all amino groups are only detected by the consumption of HCl up to about pH 2.0. The epichlorohydrin can advantageously be added in portions. The gradual condensation with epichlorohydrin has an accelerating effect on the condensation process.
During the condensation, it is generally diluted with more water, so that the end products are present in 10 to 20 0 / above solution with a preferred viscosity of 30 to 100 cP at 200.degree. It is also advantageous to add up to 1 mol per mol of epichlorohydrin after the epichlorohydrin has acted on the intermediate alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal carbonate or ammonia for a sufficiently long time. To prevent further condensation, the end products are brought to a pH value below 6 with an acid. Suitable acids are, for. B.
Hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, acetic acid and toluenesulfonic acid.
The products of the process are used as aqueous solutions, as they are obtained directly during the implementation, for a wide variety of uses, e.g. B.
as textile finishing agents, paper wet strength agents, filler retention agents for paper, flocculants, fixing agents or anchoring agents for plastic films with cellulose materials.
Examples
1 mol of a compound of the formula I H2NL (RNR) n4i, characterized by R and n, was heated with x mol of e-caprolactam while passing nitrogen through.
From 2000 ° C. on, the reaction time t was measured and gradually heated further to 2500 ° C. and kept at 250 ° C., about y moles of water being formed, which were continuously distilled off from the reaction mixture. The yields of higher molecular weight cordsation products were p / o, based on the total material used, after removal of the reusable fractions that were volatile up to 2400 ° C. at 20 torr.
The base equivalent for 1 mole of hydrochloric acid was determined to be m grams of this intermediate condensation product, which was reacted equivalent to z moles of epichlorohydrin per base at about 40 to 70 ° C. in 25 0 / above aqueous solution. The epichlorohydrin was added in 2 portions with initially 0 After the relatively violent reaction had subsided, with self-heating to about 90 ° C., the temperature was lowered to 601 ° C. by adding water and condensation was continued with the remaining amount (eg 0.75) mole of epichlorohydrin.
With increasing conversion, the reaction solution was under Beibe; Maintaining the temperature of about 600 C continuously diluted with water to about 15 0 / above solution. Furthermore, after the reaction had progressed, q moles of a base in aqueous solution were added to the reaction mixture. After the viscosity V had been reached, the solution was adjusted to pH 3.5 with concentrated hydrochloric acid, as a result of which the final viscosity of the solution thus obtained increased by about 10 to 20%.
The viscosities V of the process products were measured for 15 0 / above aqueous solutions at 250 C with the aid of the Tausz viscometer.
The immediately obtained aqueous solutions of the process products were outstandingly suitable for use in the textile and paper industry.
