Description
Use of a steel alloy for the production of segments for segment saw blades Very high demands are made on the quality of segment saw blades in terms of cutting performance or wear resistance and heat resistance. The behavior with regard to side pitting is also very important.
These requirements indicate that it is advisable to use a suitable high-speed steel alloy as the material for segment saw blades.
However, the prices for segment saw blades are very low as a result of the large supply. For this reason a steel of the commercially known class DMO-5 has been used almost exclusively up to now, with 0.85% carbon, 4.0% chromium, 5.0% molybdenum, 1.85% vanadium and 6.35% tungsten which is still the most economical in terms of purchase price and performance.
However, the performance demands on such tools are increasing more and more, so that efforts are being made to find a steel for segments of circular saw blades which, without being much more expensive, provides a disproportionately higher performance and shows greater wear resistance.
It has now surprisingly been found that an increase in the carbon and vanadium content in the alloy mentioned results in a material which has the desired improved properties for use in the manufacture of segments for circular saw blades.
According to the invention, a steel with 1.1-1.3 wt.% Carbon, 3.5-4.5 wt.% Chromium, 4.5-5.5 wt.% Molybdenum, 3.5-4 wt.% Vanadium is used and 6-6.5 wt.% tungsten used to manufacture the segments. Circular saw blades with segments made of the steel alloy according to the invention ensure high performance, very high wear resistance and very high resistance to so-called lateral erosion. The ratio of purchase price to performance and wear resistance of this steel alloy is extremely favorable.
