Device for flexion and extension of the spine Dic invention relates to a device for flexion and extension of the spine of patients with intervertebral disc damage, in which the extension is achieved by lifting the trunk of the patient lying normally in bed at its ends and the thighs vertically be asked.
It is known that the spine is stretched with the help of devices consisting of U-shaped bent tubes which are telescopically inserted into one another and serve to push back the thighs of the patient lying on the back and to lift the knees and buttocks.
The invention now relates to a device for flexing and stretching the spine of a patient lying on his back, which is characterized in that air cushions are provided which can be filled with air by an electrically controlled and operated pump around the knees and buttocks and to push the upper body upwards, whereby the patient can determine the degree of filling of the pillow by pressing buttons. In a preferred embodiment, it is also possible to stretch the cervical spine at the same time with the aid of air cushions that are placed in a ring around the neck.
The new device has the advantage over the earlier versions that it can be accommodated almost invisibly in the bed and left there for days and the patient only has to press a few push buttons to use it.
In the drawing, an example of the device according to the invention is illustrated.
Fig. I shows how it is put in bed before use.
Fig. 2 shows schematically the arrangement of the Kis sen before inflation, seen from the Seitc.
Fig. 3 shows the device after inflation, seen from the side.
Fig. 4 shows a possibility of electrical control shown schematically.
As with existing devices, the buttocks and upper body are lifted to bend and stretch the spine so that the spine can sag between them. This lifting is done by filling the cushions 1 and 2, while the cushions 3, 4, 5 and 6 push the knees up. The cushions 3 to 6 are arranged in such a way that they spread fan-like around the point 7 when they are filled and are held together by a fabric cover 8 in the shape of a cylinder sector.
For the following description, an operation using three push buttons is assumed, for example. They story like this:
The air cushions are placed in the bed so that the cushions 3 to 6 come to lie under the patient's thighs, while the pillow 2, which is articulated to the cushions 3 to 6 in point 7, under the buttocks and the pillow 1 under the upper body is placed.
If the patient now presses button 9 of a multiple switch attached to the end of the control cable, an air pump 10, which is sufficient for an ordinary vacuum cleaner if a hose can be connected to its air outlet, is switched on. The air flows from the pump 10 through the line 11 and the valves 18 to the cushions.
If the patient wants to deflate the air cushions in order to return to the starting position, then he presses the button 13, the coil 14 attracting the armature 15 and opening the outlet valve 16.
The filling and emptying of the cushions can be interrupted by pressing button 12.
In order to avoid any excessively high pressure in the cushions, a pressure limiter 17 is fitted in the feed line to the cushions, which interrupts the power supply to the pump at an adjustable pressure.
If the cushions 1 and 2 or 3 to 6 require different pressures, these can be graduated with the help of automatic or manually operated pressure limiting valves 18.
The check valve 19 prevents the air from flowing back from the cushion to the pump.
The annular air cushions 20 and 21 allow the cervical spine to be stretched simultaneously. By changing its degree of filling, the cervical spine can be stretched more or more bent as required.
