Jumping or gymnastics mat made of plastic The invention relates to a jumping or gymnastics mat made of plastic, as it can be used primarily in athletic exercises.
The known mats of this type are mostly made of a foam plastic. The material is poured into a mold, foamed to loosen it up, then shaped into blocks and cut to the desired dimensions.
These known mats have the disadvantage that the material becomes damaged through use and in particular crumbles out at the corners. In addition, when doing gymnastics exercises with a subsequent jump, such as jumping over the horse or on the horizontal bar, there is the risk that the mats slip away when jumping and the end of the gymnastics falls. In addition, it is often disadvantageous that these mats, which are constantly placed on the floor, become very dirty due to their porous structure.
The most important property of such mats is their resilience, and it is an essential feature of a good mat that it resembles well and strongly and that it retains its resilient properties even over a long period of time.
Ultimately, the mat should also be able to be produced as simply and cheaply as possible.
The purpose of the invention is to avoid the vorste existing disadvantages and to improve the previously known mats of the type described above.
Such a jumping or gymnastics mat made of plastic is for this purpose characterized "that it has a filling made of foam plastic, which is covered by a thinner film made of stronger plastic.
The elasticity of such a mat is extremely high, which is particularly important when jumping onto or falling onto this mat. In spite of this, however, this mat also has an excellent hold and always reverts to its previous strength after being pressed together, so that it therefore has excellent permanent elasticity.
The mat according to the invention offers a particular advantage due to its extremely low weight due to the light filling, which is significantly below that of the known jumping and gymnastics mats. For heavier loads or other sports where a soft landing is urgently important, several of these light mats can be easily placed on top of one another. Such a stack of several mats has extremely good resilience and elasticity, is nonetheless non-slip and cannot slide apart because the non-slip properties of the cover hold the mats stacked on top of one another well together.
The covering, which can be made of polyvinyl chloride, for example, and which surrounds the pieces of foam plastic, also gives the mat a pleasing appearance and a uniform surface on all sides. In this way, it is completely closed off from the outside and retains its shape perfectly. Due to the slip resistance of the cover, the mat lies firmly on the floor and cannot slip off if you jump.
The filling of the mat can consist of Schaumkunststoffab cases, which arise in the foam plastic production and which are loosened with tearing and brought into a corresponding shape. This embodiment of the mat according to the invention has the advantage of very low production costs. because - as I said - it is made from waste that is normally thrown away, but is used in a simple and useful way. The production of the mats according to the invention accordingly does not require any new raw material to be produced and delivered.
The soft filling of foam plastic pieces can be wrapped around the wrapper like a package, with the two narrow sides of the wrapping film first being folded over and then folded over the long sides and then glued or otherwise attached in the case of a rectangular parallelepiped shape of the mat.
In a further embodiment of the mat according to the invention, a non-slip base, which is also made of plastic, can also be provided on the underside in the middle, whereby either the same material as the cover or a different, non-slip base material can be used, e.g. Polyurethane. In many cases, a plastic can be used for this, which is cheaper to produce than the rest of the mat material, so that the production costs can be further reduced as a result.
If the envelope is folded like a package as described above, this additional pad can be attached to the folded edges of the envelope.
This additional pad on the underside of the mat can be arranged in such a way that it is partially embedded in the envelope and partially protrudes downward from the envelope so that only this pad then forms the actual support surface of the mat. Since this pad is also made of a most slip-proof material, this smaller contact surface of the mat is sufficient to prevent it from slipping when you jump up.
According to a particularly expedient embodiment of the mat according to the invention, the covering can be provided with small holes. These can either be attached directly and continuously in the wrapping film, but they can also be formed by dents in the wrapping at the bottom. These holes give the envelope yet another possibility of stretching, which allows it to expand under load and to contract again after relief. In addition, when the mat is compressed, some of the air contained within the envelope foil can escape due to a crack. In this way, constant ventilation of the inside of the mat is achieved through these holes.
These holes or indentations can expediently be arranged in the form of a pattern, for example in obliquely arranged rows running parallel to one another, whereby the pleasing appearance of the mat can be improved and its slip resistance can also be increased.
It has also proven to be useful to provide the underside of the mat with a darker color than the rest of the outer surfaces, for example dark gray, whereby on the one hand dust picked up from the floor is not easily visible and on the other hand it can be seen from the outside on which side the mat must always be laid. In this way, the upper side, on which floor exercises may be performed, always remains clean.
The mats according to the invention can be produced in sizes of, for example, 2.0 x 1.2 m with a thickness of 3.5 cm, depending on the purposes for which they are intended. For a simple mat for yoga exercises, for example, the mats can be thinner than 3.5 cm. For use in apparatus gymnastics or floor gymnastics, however, they should be made as thick as possible, since higher demands must be made on the elasticity. As already mentioned, the mats can be stacked on top of one another several times, so that they can also be produced in a certain uniform thickness, which are then stacked on top of one another in a corresponding number for the respective purpose.
Due to the inventive construction of the mat from a soft filling and an envelope that holds this filling together in its shape, the individual mat can also be easily adapted to the respective purpose by selecting the amount and type of filling material with regard to its elasticity.
As tests with a sample with a size of 10 x 15 cm and a thickness of 33.1 mm have shown. if loaded with 600 kg, this compresses by 7.9 mm within a minute. Half an hour after the load was removed, the thickness was again 32.2 mm, so that the original thickness was roughly reached again. For this specimen, the wrap was made of polyvinyl chloride.
