EMI0001.0006

1,4-Diaminobenzol, 1,3-Diaminobenzol, 1,3-Diamino-4-methylbenzol, 1,3-Diamino-4,6-dichlorbenzol, 1, 3-Diamino-4-chlorbenzol, 1,3-Diamino-2,5-dichlorbenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2-chlorbenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2-brombenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2,5-dichlorbenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2methylbenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2,5-dimethylbenzol, 1,4-Dia#mino-2 methoxybenzol, 1,4-Diamino-2,5-dimethoxybenzol,

where A is an aryl radical, X is a = CONH aryl, -NHCO aryl, or
EMI0001.0012
X1 is a halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy,
Nitro or carboxylic ester group, Y1 is a hydrogen or halogen atom, R is a phenoxyphenyl radical, preferably an o-phenoxyphenyl radical, Z is a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkoxy or cyano group and n is the number 1 or 2,
if you have 2 moles of an azo dye carboxylic acid halide of the formula

condensed with 2 moles of an aromatic monoamine of the formula H2N-A-X or with 1 mole of an aromatic diamine. Since the dyes according to the invention are pigments, groups which make water soluble, in particular acidic groups which make water soluble, such as sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups, are of course excluded.
The azo dyestuff carboxylic acids, from which the acid halides to be used according to the process are produced, are obtained when the diazo compound

Examples include: 4-chloro-3-aminobenzoic acid, 4-methyl-3-aminobenzoic acid, 4-methoxy-3-aminobenzoic acid, 4-ethoxy-3-aminobenzoic acid, 4-phenoxy-3-aminobenzoic acid, 4-carbomethoxy-3 -aminobenzoic acid, 4-carbethoxy-3-aminobenzoic acid, 2,4-dichloro-5-aminobenzoic acid; 3 nitro-4-aminobenzoic acid is also of interest.
These aminobenzenecarboxylic acids are preferably based on naphthol of the formula
EMI0002.0013
coupled, where Y2 and Z have the meaning given and X3 is a hydrogen or halogen atom.
The azocarboxylic acids obtained are treated with means capable of converting carboxylic acids into their halides, eg. B. the chlorides or bromides, over, so in particular with phosphorus halides, such as phosphorus pentabromide, or phosphorus trichloride or pentachloride, phosphorus oxyhalides and preferably with thionyl chloride.
Treatment with such acid-halogenating agents is expediently in inert organic solvents such as chlorobenzenes, e.g. B. mono- or dichlorobenzene, toluene, xylene or nitrobenzene performed.
In the preparation of the carboxylic acid halides, it is generally expedient to first freeze the azo carboxylic acids prepared in an aqueous medium or to free them azeotropically from water by boiling in an organic solvent.
This azeotropic drying can, if desired, be carried out immediately before the treatment with the acid-halogenating agents.
The monoamines to be used according to the process preferably correspond to the formula

The condensation between the carboxylic acid halides of the type mentioned at the beginning and the amines is expediently carried out in an anhydrous medium. Under this condition, it is generally surprisingly easy even at temperatures in the boiling range of normal organic solvents, such as toluene, monochlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene and the like.
To accelerate the reaction, it is generally advisable to use an acid-binding agent, such as sodium acetate or pyridine, which is free from sodium. The dyes obtained are partly crystalline and partly amorphous and are mostly obtained in a very good yield and pure state. It is advisable to first remove the acid chlorides obtained from the carboxylic acids.
In some cases, however, separation of the acid chlorides can be dispensed with without damage and the condensation can take place immediately after the preparation of the carboxylic acid chlorides.
The new dyes are valuable pigments which can be used for a wide variety of pigment applications, e.g. B. in finely divided form for dyeing rayon and rayon or cellulose ethers and esters or superpoyamides or
Super-polyurethanes or polyesters in the spinning pulp,
