Fuel injection device The present invention relates to a fuel injection device for internal combustion engines.
The fuel injection device according to the invention has a valve body which has a longitudinal bore which receives a valve piston and is provided with a nozzle opening at one end and which has a fuel duct which has a supply part and a return part,
wherein one end of the feed part can be connected to a fuel feed line and the other end is closed by means of a passage opening to said longitudinal bore, while the return part can be connected to a fuel return line and is connected to the other end of the feed part, the valve piston being in the longitudinal bore is movable to and fro,
in order to open and close said passage opening and to be movable against said nozzle opening in order to eject fuel through it, which valve body further comprises abutting a main part, an intermediate part and a nozzle body and a holder which at one end has means for its attachment to said main part and at the other end has a flange which is in engagement with the nozzle body in order to hold the main part, the intermediate part and the nozzle body together in abutment, and is characterized by
that between the holder and the outer jacket surface of the intermediate part there is an intermediate space which forms part of the return part and is in conductive connection with the feed part.
This injection device can be designed in such a way that the parts subject to normal wear and tear can easily be replaced without having to dismantle the entire device. This is preferably achieved in that said parts of the body of the injection device, which are subject to the greatest wear, can easily be replaced. These parts are expediently seen ver with holes, which represent the above-mentioned supply and return sections.
A construction in which the body has a plurality of parts allows these bores to be made all from the outer surface of the parts without having to plug any bores at their ends. A part of the return section is expediently only formed in that an intermediate space is provided between two body parts in order to avoid having to provide a bore for such a part of the return section.
Furthermore, the preferred embodiment may have a piston of the type which is operated by a rocker arm to inject the fuel into the cylinder, with any side pressure on the piston due to the movement of the rocker arm being reduced. In particular, the piston can be used to inject the fuel from the injection device into the cylinder, being actuated on the injection stroke by a device operated by the machine, this device comprising a rocker arm whose movement is generally longitudinal to the piston that ever has a side component.
This lateral component would cause undesirable wear on the piston or on the piston bore of the body if the design did not reduce any side pressure on the piston itself, thereby eliminating the wear caused by this side pressure.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing. There are shown: Fig.l a partial view of an internal combustion engine on a reduced scale, which has an injection device that embodies the features of the invention.
FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section through the injection device of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows a cross section according to line 3-3 of FIG. 2, FIG. 4 shows a partial section according to line 4-4 of FIG. 3; Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section similar to FIG. 2, which is ever vorgenom men in a different plane than in Fig. 2;
Fig. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5, but which indicates the parts of the injection device in a different Stel ment during operation compared to the position in FIG.
Fig. 1 of the drawings shows an injector 10 incorporated into an engine partially shown. The machine may of course have a variety of cylinders, although only one cylinder is shown. Accordingly, the machine includes a cylinder head 11 Zy, an oscillating shaft 12 and a rocking lever 13. which can be moved up and down on the rocking shaft by the usual device driven by the machine.
The injection device 10, which embodies the features of the invention, consists of an elongated injection device body 20 and has a piston bore 21 and a nozzle body 22 which has nozzle openings 23. through which fuel is injected into the cylinder of the engine.
A piston, 2n 26 is incorporated into the bore 21 such that it can move back and forth in order to expel fuel from a chamber in the body 20 when the piston 26 is moved towards the nozzle.
The body 20 comprises in the present case a generally cylindrical body 31, a bushing part 32 and a nozzle body 22, the ends of which abut one another. These abutting end surfaces, which are denoted by 33 and 34 for the body and the socket 31 and 32, respectively, and the abutting end surfaces at 36 and 37 for the socket 31 and the nozzle body 22 are machined smoothly to make surface contact to be ensured when assembling the parts.
In order to hold the parts of the injector body 20 in the assembled end-to-end position, a tubular holder 40 is provided. In the present case, the holder 40 is internally threaded at 41 at one end in order to engage an external thread 42 at the end of the body part 31, as shown in FIG. There are. The re end of the holder 40 has a flange 43 facing inwards, which defines an inner shoulder 45 in order to engage an annular flange 47 on the nozzle body 22 which extends radially outward.
Accordingly, when the holder 40 is screwed onto the body 31, the end faces 33, 34 and 36, 37 of the parts of the injector body 20 are held in abutment.
As mentioned above, the body 20 has a bore 21 for receiving the piston 26. In the present case, the bore 21 comprises a section 56 in the body part 31 and a coaxial section 57 in the socket part 32, the section 56 from is slightly larger in diameter than the section 57, so that the upper end of the piston 26 does not touch the wall of the bore 56. The interior of the nozzle body 22 is a continuation of the Kol benbohrung 21 is.
In the present case, the piston 26 comprises a fuel-injecting and controlling part 61 and a sleeve 62. One end 63 of the sleeve 62 is circumferentially attached to the abutting end of the piston part 61 by rounding or by some other design of the end 63 around the groove 64 are secured, which portion 61 is formed at the end of the piston. The outer diameter of the sleeve 62 is slightly smaller than that of the section 56 of the piston bore, so that the sleeve fits loosely into the bore 56 in the entire range of piston movement. A flange 66 is attached to the other end of the sleeve 62 to form an abutment part for one end of a coil spring 57 which is arranged around the sleeve 62.
The other end of the coil spring 67 rests against a shoulder 68, which is set by an enlarged bore 71 in the end of the body part 31, which extends coaxially to the bore 56. The spring 67 is normally compressed together and serves in this way to push the Kol ben 26 away from the nozzle.
The movement of the piston 26 in the direction of the nozzle body 22 is acted by the rocker arm 13, which acts via an elongated, rod-like connec tion member 72. In the present case, one end 73 (Fig. 1) of the link 72 is spherically ausgebil det to engage a complementarily shaped seat at one end of the swing arm 13, and the other end 74 (Fig. 2) of the link 72 is also spherical formed and engages a complementary shaped seat 76 in the end of the piston part 61. As a result, the occurrence of a side pressure on the piston part 61 is practically excluded.
This side pressure is further reduced due to the fact that the link 62 is of considerable length so that the angular movement of the link 72 is relatively small. The reduction in the side pressure of the swing movement of the rocker arm on the piston part 61 reduces the wear between the piston part 61 and the bore portion 57 considerably, whereby the maintenance time of the injection device is increased.
As mentioned above, the injector body 20 has a fuel passage which includes a supply part and a return part. One end of the feed part can be connected to a fuel feed line and one end of the return part can be connected to a fuel return line.
In the present case, these fuel supply and fuel return lines comprise a pair of bores 80 and 81 (FIG. 1) in the cylinder head 11 which are arranged at a distance from one another and extend in the longitudinal direction.
The fuel supply bore 80 is connected at one end to a source of pressurized fuel, such as a fuel pump, and the fuel return bore 81, which may be connected to the low pressure side of the fuel pump, is provided to supply part of the fuel supply the injector supplied fuel returned to the pump.
The fuel supply and return bores 80 and 81 intersect a vertical fastening bore 82 in the cylinder head 11, the bore 82 consisting of a series of concentric bores with different diameters. The injector body 2 similarly contains a series of concentric sections with different diameters, which can engage the concentric sections of the mounting hole 82 in order to accommodate the injector in the cylinder head 11.
When it is seated completely in the bore 82, the fuel supply and return bores 80 and 81 coincide with the grooves 84 and 85 in the body part 31 which are distributed around the circumference.
In order to prevent the fuel from leaking between the fuel supply bore 80 and the fuel return bore 81, the body 31 can have a number of longitudinally spaced grooves 86 for receiving sealing rings 87, with at least one groove and one seal each side of the feed and return grooves 84 and 85 are provided.
In the present case, the feed part of the fuel passage consists of a transverse bore 91 (FIG. 2) which extends inward from the groove 84, with its inner end opening into one end of a longitudinal bore 92. The bore 92 extends to the end face 33 of the body part 31 and is connected to one end (FIGS. 4, 5 and 6) of a longitudinal bore 97 in the socket part 32, which is laterally offset from the bore 92.
The outer end of the bore 97 is spaced from the end of the socket part 32 and connected to a small transverse bore or a supply bore 98 in the socket part, the inner end of the lead bore 98 opening into the section 57 of the Kol benbohrung 21. Accordingly, the feed part of the fuel passage comprises the transverse bore 91, which is connected to the longitudinal bores 92 and 97 but is laterally offset, and the feed bore 98.
The piston 61, which is shown in Fig. 6, and the piston bore 21 including the part of the Boh tion inside the nozzle body 22 are formed so that they form two chambers. Accordingly, when the piston part is moved away from the nozzle, the piston part 61 and the nozzle body 22 are shaped in such a way that they create a space in the piston bore which communicates with the nozzle openings 23 and the feed 98.
In the present case, this space comprises an injection chamber 101 which is defined by the interior of the nozzle body 22 and the end of the piston part 61, and a further chamber 103 which is formed by a section 104 on the piston part 61 with a reduced diameter and the adjacent wall of the piston bore portion 57 is set. The chambers 101 and 103 are connected by a constricted line 106 which is set between the section 104 with a reduced diameter and the adjacent wall 107 of the interior of the nozzle body 22 be.
In the present case, the section 104 with a reduced diameter and the wall 107 are cylindrical, so that their space between them forms a constricted line 106. The end of the piston part 61, which is denoted by 102, is conical in order to act on a complementarily conical inner surface 108 of the nozzle body 22. From the section 104 with a reduced diameter also defines a shoulder 111, which opens and closes the feed 98 during the movements of the piston 26 in its bore.
The constricted conduit or space 106 is small and preferably has a radial width of 0.076 mm. This constricted line brings a remarkable working advantage, since Ver combustion products, such as carbon particles, which can be forced through the nozzle openings 23 into the chamber 101, are for the most part prevented from entering the chamber 103 and the Feed 98 penetrate.
Accordingly, the carbon particles are deposited on the adjacent walls of the restricted conduit 106 instead of being carried into the chamber 103 or the feed bore 98 or possibly even into the feed and return portions of the fuel passage. The tendency of the carbon particles to collect on the walls of the restricted conduit 106 is caused by the high velocity fuel flowing from the chamber 103 into the injection chamber 101 through the conduit 106 as the piston 126 moves toward the nozzle limited.
Moreover, even if some carbon particles were to accumulate on the smaller diameter sections 104 and 107, such accumulation does not significantly affect the operation of the injector. By preventing an accumulation of carbon particles in the area of the supply bore, scratching or jagging of the piston part 61 and thus the destruction of the piston part 61 in the area of the shoulder 111 and the piston bore in the area of the supply 98 is excluded.
Since the combustion products are essentially prevented from passing through the constricted intermediate space 106, there is also a slight backflow of such products through the nozzle opening 23.
The constricted line 106 also offers a further advantage when a variety of injectors are used, such as B. in a Ma machine with several cylinders, the injection devices being operated jointly through the feed and return bores 80 and 81 (FIG. 1).
Due to the fact that if the feed 98 is not covered by the shoulder 111, the feed part of the fuel passage in a certain injector will be in communication with a common supply bore 80, a pressure wave from the cylinder can therefore pass through the feed part of the Fuel passage get into the common supply bore and possibly adversely affect the metering of the fuel in the adjacent injectors.
The constricted line 106 acts to some extent as an obstacle to the passage of such a pressure wave and in this way eliminates this problem.
As a further precautionary measure against the passage of such pressure waves into the common fuel supply bore 80, a shut-off valve can be provided in the supply part of the fuel passage between the supply hole 98 and the fuel inlet groove 84. In the present case it is a ball shut-off valve 114 (FIGS. 3 and 4) which is accommodated in a cavity in one of the body parts, namely in the body part 31 here. The cavity in the present case is a bore 116 which extends from the end face 33 of the body part extends inward.
A bore 117 running coaxially with the bore 116 and having a slightly smaller diameter than the ball 114 extends from the end face 34 of the socket part 32 and forms a seat for the ball 114. The inner end of the bore 116 is cut through a short diagonal bore 118, the tion to the end surface 33 in accordance with the Längboh 97 is open. The inner end of the bore 117 is cut through one end of a further diagonal bore 119 in the socket part 32, which extends to the end surface 33 in correspondence with the longitudinal bore 92.
Accordingly, should the pressure wave pass through the constricted line 106 and proceed upstream into the feed portion of the fuel passage, the ball 114 would be pressed into the seat and thus prevent further passage of the wave into the fuel passage. Such a concern of the ball against the seat is of course supported by the force of gravity which acts on the ball 114 when the injector is arranged so that the nozzle is at the lower end. In some cases, the ball valve 114 may not be necessary because the constricted space 116 sufficiently prevents backflow.
In order to supply a certain amount of the fuel through the supply bore 98 into the injection chamber 101 for injection into the cylinder, a flow control device is provided in the supply part of the fuel passage. In the present case, this flow control device comprises a bolt 121 (FIG. 2) which is screwed into the outer end of the transverse bore 91.
The bolt 121 is provided with a metering opening 123 in order to feed a precisely measured amount of fuel into the feed part of the passage in the injection device and through the feed 98. The bolt 121 can be provided with a Sockelab section 124 to accommodate a tool to facilitate installation or removal. A screen 126 may be disposed in the groove 84 to prevent foreign objects from entering the fuel passage.
As mentioned above, the fuel passage also contains a fuel return part in order to return excess amounts of the fuel to the fuel return bore 81. In the present case, this return part comprises a transverse bore 131 (FIGS. 5 and 6), which is connected at its inner end to the longitudinal bore 97 of the supply section, preferably coaxially with the feed 98.
The transverse bore 131 is arranged at a distance from the end face 36 of the socket part 32, so that a metal body is located radially outside the metal between the feed 98 and the end face 36.
When the piston 26 moves in the direction of the nozzle openings 33, a high pressure builds up in the chambers 101 and 103 in order to effect the injection, with a radially outward expansion of the metal in between the feed hole 98 and the end surface 36 is substantially prevented due to the support provided by the metal between the transverse bore 131 and the end surface 36, and due to the fact that the longitudinal bore 97 terminates at a point spaced from the End face 36 is located. The outer end of the transverse bore 131 opens into an annular space 132 between the bushing part 32 and the tubular holder 40.
The ring-shaped space 132 accordingly comprises part of the return part of the fuel passage. An annular seal, such as a sealing ring 133, may be provided to prevent leakage of the fuel between the end of the body part 31 and the tubular holder 40.
The fuel return part also contains a transverse bore 134 (FIG. 2) in the socket part 32, the bore 134 extending out of the space 132 and intersecting the section 57 of the piston bore and being arranged at a distance from the transverse bore 131. Accordingly, the bore 134 has a section 136 on one side of the bore section 57, which is in communication with the annular space 132, and another section 137 on the opposite side of the section 57.
Sections 136 and 137 of transverse bore 134 can be connected to a circumferential groove 138 formed in piston member 61 when the piston is in its fully advanced position towards the nozzle is located, as shown in Figures 2 and 5. The groove 138 thus forms another part of the return portion of the fuel passage. A longitudinal bore 141 in the socket part 32 cuts the section 137 of the transverse bore 134 and is in communication with a further longitudinal bore 142 in the body part 31, the bore 132 being connected to the inner end of a further transverse bore 143 which is open to the groove 85.
Accordingly, the return part of the fuel supply passage comprises the transverse bore 131, the annular space 132, the transverse bore 134, the groove 138 in the piston section 61, the longitudinal bore 141 and 142 and the transverse bore 143.
The groove 138 is arranged on the piston part 61 in such a way that it closes the transverse bore 134 and accordingly the return part of the fuel passage before the shoulder 111 exposes the feed bore 98. The return part of the fuel passage accordingly allows a circulating fuel flow through the fuel passage in the injection device in order to keep the passage free of air or combustion products,
so that there is a constant flow of fuel into the chamber 103 for delivery into the injection chamber 101 when the piston 26 moves in the direction of the nozzle. The annular space 132 additionally provides a cooling effect for the parts of the injector near the space 132 due to the aforementioned fuel circulation.
The construction described above offers further advantages over other injection device constructions with regard to increased maintenance intervals and economy of manufacture. Due to the fact that the injector body 20 consists of a plurality of parts, those parts that are subject to the greatest wear can easily be replaced without having to replace the entire injector. Accordingly, the nozzle body 22 and the book senteil 32 can easily be replaced when the holder 40 is removed.
In order to facilitate a correct alignment of the conical inner wall 108 of the nozzle body 22 and the conical end 102 of the piston part 61, the inner surface portions of the holder 40 and the complementary peripheral portions of the nozzle body 22 are dimensioned so that there is a small space between them. As a result, the nozzle body 22 can be displaced with respect to the socket part 32 in order to ensure that the conical end 102 and the complementary, conical surface 108 are precisely aligned.
This alignment is easily achieved in that the piston 26 is brought into its fully advanced position in the bore 26 (Figures 2 and 5) and then the nozzle body 22 is arranged on the socket part 32, with the conical sections lying correctly on one another and then the tubular holder is applied. An exact alignment of the socket body 32 with the body part 31 is ensured by a pair of pivot pins 146 (FIG. 3), only one of which is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6.
The multi-part construction described above it allows all holes of the injector to be drilled from an outer surface, thereby eliminating the need to plug the opposite end of any such hole. The overall cost of the injector is reduced in this way and the construction is simplified.
