Process for the production of plastic cones
The invention relates to a method for the production of plastic cones, which in particular allows an efficient production that takes up little working time. Processes used up to now have required large injection molding machines because of the high material weight, with the material usually being sprayed on in layers in several successive operations. The plastic material introduced into expensive and complex injection molds mounted on the injection molding machines had to cool down inside, which resulted in considerable waiting times during which the machines were idle. These downtimes cause, in addition to unsatisfactory quantitative production, a considerable increase in manufacturing costs.
These disadvantages are eliminated by the method according to the invention. It is characterized by the steps: a) the blow molding of a conical shell as a hollow body with a suitable wall thickness. e, with a concentric opening, made of an impact-resistant first plastic material, b) pouring the shell with a second plastic material and c) cooling the second plastic material cast into the cone shell by a cooling medium brought to the outer surface of the cone shell.
High-pressure polyethylene is preferably used for the manufacture of the conical shell. The cavity in the cone shell can be filled both by polyethylene of the same density as the shell material and by poly ethylene of a different density, or by any other suitable plastic material. A propellant is advantageously added to the material used to fill the cavity. It is useful to set both the pouring temperature of the filler material and the temperature of the cooling medium so that the gas is released from the propellant preferably in the central area of the cone body.
To explain the invention, an exemplary embodiment is described below with reference to the drawing, which shows a plastic cone in longitudinal section.
1 denotes one made of an impact-resistant plastic, e.g. B. high pressure polyethylene, produced cone shell, which is made in one piece by blow molding. Its wall thickness is expediently about 2-4 mm. For manufacturing reasons when blowing, the blow molding has an opening only at one axial end Er, while an opening, which may also be necessary for E), is made after the blowing process.
The conical surface present in this form is then brought into the pouring position with the end E1 intended for pouring upwards. If a possibly desired hole 2 in the cone is already created during casting, a mandrel corresponding to this hole, for. B. consisting of steel, centered in a suitable manner in the jacket, preferably by means of a device for receiving a plurality of conical shells.
Instead of a mandrel, another suitable body can of course also be used which, if necessary, and as will be described later, can remain in the finished cone. Then the cavity delimited by the casing body and possibly by the mandrel or another insert body is filled with a plastic compound, which is anchored to the inner surface of the cone jacket and, if necessary, to an insert remaining in the finished cone in such a way that it can be detached by chance or by use-related circumstances the shell of the solidified filler material 4 is not possible. In this regard, it is obvious that a filler material is used for this purpose, which is welded to the jacket material, for which a polyethylene type of a suitable density is particularly suitable.
Of course, other plastics can also be used which anchor themselves in the required manner in the jacket material through suitable processes during pouring. The filling material can be poured in in various ways, with or without the application of pressure. In a practical embodiment, the cone shell z. B. placed in a mold mounted on an injection molding machine and injected the filler under high pressure. The cooling can then take place as described.
It proves to be expedient to use a filler material with a propellant or to add one to the filler material which, for example, releases an inert gas when the hot plastic is cooled, which creates pores in the filler material. In a practical example, 0.2 vol. S Genitron CR was added to low-pressure polyethylene as a propellant. By setting the pouring temperature of the filling compound to about 170-180 C, it was possible to achieve pore formation in the central area 5 near the axis in the interior of the cone using the cooling method described below. This pore formation by splitting off nitrogen has the effect that the filling parts close to the surface or the casing are pressed outwards against the casing.
The propellant created pores of about
1-3 mm in diameter.
In order to prevent the cone jacket from melting through as a result of the hot-filled plastic compound and also to accelerate the cooling process, the cones are then cooled by a cooling medium brought into contact with the outer surface of the jacket. Although the cooling can also take place in the open air, this is done more expediently and at little cost by the cones in a suitable manner z. B. by means of the already mentioned device for centering the mandrel for the bore 2, in a water bath. The cones remain there until the filling compound has solidified throughout.
If it is considered expedient, the cooling rate can be controlled within certain limits by monitoring the water temperature, which can be particularly necessary when a large number of cones with a hot filling are inserted into a relatively small water bath in quick succession.
After the filling 4 has cooled down, a mandrel, which may be used for the purpose of casting a hole 2, is pulled out and the finishing work necessary for completion is carried out on the cone. This can also include drilling out a core hole, unless this was provided as described by inserting a mandrel before casting.
It is readily understandable that various of the details mentioned can be varied within the scope of the inventive concept, both with regard to their shape and arrangement and with regard to any aids for carrying out the method and the materials to be used. Thus, as already mentioned, instead of a solid mandrel to achieve the bore 2, a pipe or another hollow element with or without further internals can be used, which afterwards optionally remains in the finished cone. Such bodies are preferably also made of materials which are inextricably combined with the filler material during the casting process, for example also made of polyethylene.
The description also shows that the method according to the invention enables a substantial reduction in expensive machine time and a considerable increase in production with the same use of personnel.
The elimination of expensive molding tools means that there are no related investment costs.
