Method and device for continuously introducing magnesium, inoculants or deoxidizing substances into metallic melts The present invention relates to a method and a device for continuously introducing magnesium, inoculating or deoxidizing substances into metallic melts, in particular cast iron.
It is known for the production of spheroidal graphite cast iron to introduce magnesium in the form of small grains through a lance into a cast iron melt. However, it is very difficult to keep the explosive reaction of the magnesium with the liquid melt under control. The attempt to carry out this reaction in a pressure vessel resulted in difficulties for purely operational reasons that led to the rejection of this process in practice.
Another known process for the production of spheroidal graphite cast iron consists in the use of a tilting pan, in the bottom of which the magnesium is introduced into a small chamber before the liquid melt is poured. These processes have the disadvantage that they carry out the treatment of the liquid melt in batches. The Z.
B. material treated with magnesium or vaccines must stand in this way in the reaction pan for a long time, with the first cast pieces receive material that is found shortly after the treatment, while the last cast pieces are cast from egg nem material which has been stale for a long time. The properties of the treated melts change rapidly due to standing, which can lead to different qualities of the cast pieces. Such a type of introduction also leads to uneven concentration ratios during the treatment reaction.
Processes have also been developed in which the addition of reactants to the melt occurs continuously, the melt flowing through the reaction space in a jet shape. Such methods have in highly reactive reactants such. B. Magnesium, the disadvantage that the magnesium vapor comes into contact with large surfaces of the lining and reacts with the same.
The present invention is based on the object of continuously carrying out the treatment of liquid melts with magnesium or with inoculants or deoxidizers, with a particularly intensive and uniform mixing of the added substances with the melt to be treated being possible, including the addition of the Substances is carried out in such a way that the contact of these or their vapors with the brickwork of the facility is limited to a minimum.
According to the invention, this is made possible by the fact that the melt is accelerated over a gradient, then introduced tangentially into a funnel-shaped space, which it leaves in a rotating manner through a downward, central discharge line that restricts the flow in the lower part, the melt in the cavity, which is created by the funnel-shaped flow vortex, reactants are fed and the cavity is kept under excess pressure.
The invention also comprises a device in which a funnel-shaped space closed on all sides is provided with a supply line which opens tangentially into the funnel-shaped space and the cross-section of the drainage channel is reduced at the outlet point, furthermore that devices are present which it allow reactants to be introduced into the funnel-shaped space and also that a controllable inert gas feed line is provided.
The device can be designed so that the supply of inert gas via an evenly distributed opening, z. B. made of porous material Ma, the inner part of the lid forming partition takes place.
This makes the device suitable for both continuous operation and for producing smaller quantities of melt with constant treatment, as is necessary when casting individual castings directly.
The device thus allows the amount of melt to be treated which is currently needed, the melt being treated continuously, i.
This means that the concentration of the substances to be added is evenly dosed for each part of the treated melt, so that deoxidation and nucleation processes take place under the same conditions for the entire treated melt, which is not possible with batch treatments.
The addition of the reactants is particularly good and evenly mixed, the contact of the same or their vapors with the walls of the device being limited to a minimum.
The drawings show an exemplary embodiment to explain the method. 1 shows a cross section through an embodiment with the associated adding and regulating devices; 2 shows a cross section through an embodiment of the device with an airtight closable lid; 3 shows a horizontal section through the embodiment of FIG. 2 according to section line III-III.
In FIGS. 1 to 3, 1 denotes a pouring ladle with a stopper 2 in which the melt 3 is located. The latter flows as a jet 4 into the collecting funnel 5. A channel 6 connects to the collecting funnel 5 and opens tangentially into the funnel-shaped space 7. The funnel-shaped space 7 is sealed abge by a cover 8 (Fig. 2) against the outside atmosphere. Fig. 1 shows the funnel-shaped space with the cover B lifted off.
The funnel-shaped space opens into a drainage channel 9, which has a constriction at its lower end 10. A second ladle is designated with 11, which receives the melt after the treatment. An allocation device 12 is shown schematically in cross section. With the help of this dispensing device, it is possible to add reactants such. B.
Introduce magnesium, inoculants and deoxidants in granular or powdery form into the funnel-shaped space 7. 14 is a feed line for inert gas, which makes it possible to keep the metering device 12 under pressure. 13 is a reserve container for the reactants. 15 is a motor which drives the metering screw 16 via a continuously variable transmission (not shown). The reactants can also be added in the form of strands, as shown in FIG.
The strand 17 is introduced into the funnel-shaped space 7 through the opening 19 by a controllable feed device 18. In the variant of FIG. 2, the interior space 30 of the device is kept under excess pressure by a feed line 20 with inert gas. It is also possible, please include the inert gas through a wall 29 which, for.
B. can consist of porous material, distributed over the entire inner surface of the lid. In the lower part of the discharge channel 9 there is a sensor 21 which, for. B. consists of an electrolytic measuring chain. 22 and 23 are current connections of the aforementioned measuring chain with the measuring cell 24. This measuring cell 24 can be used to control the feed 16 or 18 of the addition of reactants by means of the control device 25. 21 is an electrolyte-forming diaphragm, e.g.
B. made of zirconium oxide, or a support diaphragm impregnated with electrolyte. A photocell 26, which is arranged in the vicinity of the jet 4 flowing out of the pouring ladle 1, can also be used to control the dispensing device 12, 18.
The device described in FIGS. 1-3 ar processed as follows: By lifting the stopper 2, the melt 3, the outflow from the pouring ladle 1 will give free. The melt 3 pours in a jet 4 into the collecting funnel 5 and passes through the channel 6 into the funnel-shaped space 7. The tangential introduction of the melt into the funnel-shaped space 7 creates a cyclone-like vortex with high circulation speed.
This gives the melt a twist which also continues through the drainage channel 9. The pouring jet 4 brings the photocell 26 to speak, so that the metering device 12 or 18 begins to work. Through the position of the plug 2, the level 27 of the melt 3 can be kept ge at the same height. The constriction 10 in the outflow channel 9 creates a back pressure so that a certain excess pressure in the funnel-shaped space 7 can be maintained with the aid of the inert gas supplied through the line 20.
This overpressure is necessary so that the entire device cannot suck in false air, which interferes with the process, in an uncontrolled manner, or so that the vapors produced by the reactants at 28 are pressed into the drain 9. The supply of inert gas can be reduced as soon as the supply of reactants creates an overpressure of gases and vapors.
The addition of inert gas can be controlled automatically by pressure sensors. It is advantageous to carry out the supply of inert gas via a cover wall 29, which has openings distributed over the entire surface, z. B. by this is made of porous, ceramic material. It is also possible to manufacture these from permeable graphite or masonry containing graphite, if this means that there is no risk of carburization of the melt.
The supply 6 of the melt can advantageously take place in such a way that the vortex that is formed adjoins the cover tightly, as is shown schematically at 31. In this way, a particularly small ge kept space 30 is created, whereby the direct contact of the vapors generated in space 7 and 30 with the walls of the facility is suppressed to a minimum,
since the inert gas atmosphere flowing in over the cover 29 practically laminar and distributed over the entire surface pushes the vapors generated in the interior away from the wall 29 and the other walls of the device are covered by liquid melt.
According to the invention, the supply of reactants is best in a zone 28 of the flow vortex, where the flow of the melt is particularly large, so that the evaporating reactants supplied are evenly and completely dissolved at the moment of contact with the melt, without any Cause explosion. Practice has shown that a strand of strongly evaporating substances, e.g. B. Magnesium, without causing an explosion ver, continuously dissolving, supplied to who can.
In order to expose the treated melt to the air as little as possible, the lower end of the discharge pipe can be held at the level of the melt level or submerged in it.
The means for controlling the addition of reactants shown by way of example in FIGS. 1 and 2 can also be used in combination, i. H. set with each other, come to use.
The measuring chain 21, 22, 23, 24 responds to the free oxygen content of the melt. By adding deoxidizers, the free oxygen is more or less bound, which also changes the potential of the measuring chain. The addition of the oxidizing agents, e.g. B. the speed with which the strand 17 is moved forward with the aid of the rollers 18 can be controlled by this oxygen potential. In this way it is possible to continuously adapt the addition of reactants to the melt flow rate. When the melt flow is switched off, the addition of reactants is stopped because the signal from the photocell 26 is absent.
At the same time, the potential voltage of the sensor 21 changes, which can also be used for a stop process. In this way it is possible, with the help of such a casting device, to cast cast pieces directly without the interposition of a pan 11, as shown in FIG. 1.
In such a case it is expedient to lead the pouring channel introduced into the mold via an antechamber which is appropriately dimensioned in a known manner, so that slag and other non-metallic inclusions arising from the treatment can be easily eliminated.
The present invention has the advantage that the uniform mixing of the continuously flowing melt with the reactants introduced takes place in a permanently constant ratio. The mixing of the added reactants occurs evenly and completely in the strongly swirled flow of the melt in the discharge line 9.
Vapor bubbles, which arise in the upper part at around 28, are pressed into the outflow of the melt and intensively mixed with the melt as a result of the whirling outflow, with a sufficiently long reaction time in the outflow 9 so that particularly good utilization the added substances is guaranteed. The overpressure in the supply line 20 must therefore be controlled so that the vapors generated by the z. B. supplied argon into the flow 9 from being pressed.
