Process for the preparation of azo dyes It has been found that valuable dyes or their metal complex compounds are obtained if water-soluble azo compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0005
in which R is the remainder of an aromatic-isocyclic, aromatic or aromatic-heterocyclic diazo component,
one X is a hydroxyl group and the other X is a hydroxyl group or a hydrogen atom or their metal complex compounds are condensed in an acidic medium with aldehydes or aldehyde-releasing agents and the dyes are isolated.
The dyes can be converted into the metal complexes at any point in time during their preparation or afterwards.
The dyes obtained in this way or their metal complexes contain the radicals of water-soluble azo compounds of the formula attached via optionally substituted CH2 groups in o-position to an OH group of the benzene ring A
EMI0001.0020
The radical R is preferably radicals of the benzene or naphthalene series which, in addition to one or more groups that impart water solubility, preferably sulfonic acid groups,
can contain any further substituents, such as halogen atoms, nitro, amino, acylamino, carboxyl, alkoxyl, hydroxyl or optionally further substituted arylazo groups. Coupling components are z.
B. resorcinol or phloroglucinol. The coupling of the starting dyes can follow in the acidic, neutral or alkaline range, the use of resorcinol as a coupling component, depending on the choice of the diazo component, the coupling can occur in the 2- or 4-position.
Any aldehydes, in particular aromatic or aliphatic aldehydes, can be used as aldehydes. Of these, in turn, the Aliphatic are preferred. For technical reasons, formaldehyde is particularly suitable. You can also use aldehyde donors, such as acetals or the bisulfite addition products of aldehydes.
Examples of aldehydes and aldehyde-releasing agents are formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, glyoxal, benzaldehyde, p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, benzaldehyde-o-sulfonic acid, o-chlorobenzaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, acetal, urotropin, chloral hydrate, a .,
/ 3-dichlorodiethyl ether, mucochloric acid. Any azo dyes which carry an aldehyde group can also be used as aldehydes.
The condensation with the aldehydes takes place in an acidic medium, preferably in an aqueous solution or suspension in the presence of organic acids or mineral acids, such as acetic acid, formic acid, chloroacetic acid, hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid.
Depending on the choice of condensation temperature, acidity, type and amount of aldehyde, dyes with low or higher condensation are obtained, the color of which changes with the degree of condensation. Accordingly, the reaction conditions in the preparation of the new dyes can vary within a wide range. In general, however, the reaction will be carried out between 30 and 120 ° C., preferably between 60 and 100 ° C., and below pH 6, preferably between pH 1 to 4.
The aldehyde can be used in excess or in deficit. However, it is expedient to react the dye with the 0.5 to 2.0 molar, preferably 0.6 to 1.2 molar, amount of the aldehyde. If the azo compounds or their condensation products contain a complex-forming group in the radical R to the azo group or a group which can be converted into such a group, the dyes can be metallized in a known manner. The complex formation can be carried out before, simultaneously or after the condensation with the aldehydes.
Compounds of copper, nickel, iron, chromium or cobalt are used for metallization.
Metal-free dyes obtained according to the invention, which in the radical R contain a radical which can be converted into a complex-forming group and are o-position to the azo dyes, can be used to prepare the corresponding copper complexes by treating them with a copper (II) salt and an oxidizing agent.
The new dyes are suitable for. B. for dyeing leather of various types of tanning. Even in an acid bath, they result in full, even surface colors. Compared to the starting dyes used, the condensation products have the advantage of much higher yield in leather dyeing and improved acid and alkali fastness.
The parts mentioned in the examples are parts by weight. Example 1 An aqueous solution of 11.5 parts resorcinol is added to a conventionally prepared diazo solution of 17.3 parts of aniline-3-sulfonic acid and added with stirring gradually adding 20 parts of sodium acetate in aqueous solution. After the coupling is complete, the dye is salted out and suctioned off.
The moist paste of the monoazo dye is dissolved in 800 parts of water at 50 ° C., 20 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid and 4.5 parts of 40% strength formaldehyde solution are added and the reaction mixture is kept at 50 ° C. for 2 hours with stirring , whereby the partly precipitated condensation product goes into solution. After stirring for a further two hours at 90 ° C., the product is salted out with 200 parts of sodium chloride and 100 parts of potassium chloride.
After filtering and drying, 44 parts of a dye are obtained which dissolves in water with a yellow-brown color and dyes Chirom calf leather in full yellow tan brown tears. The non-condensed starting dye results in a much weaker yellowish orange coloration on the same type of leather.
A reddish brown is obtained when the monoazo compound 2-aminonaphthalene-4,8-disulfonic acid -. Resorcinol is condensed in acidic solution with formaldehyde.
Example 2 The monoazo dye prepared according to the details of Example 1 from 17.3 parts of aniline-4-sulfonic acid and 11.5 parts of resorcinol is dissolved in 500 parts of water at 70 C dissolved and the solution obtained with 20 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid and 21 parts of benzaldehyde-o-sulfonic acid (sodium salt). The mixture is stirred for 4 hours at boiling temperature and the precipitation is completed by adding. give 150 parts of sodium chloride. The condensation product obtained gives reddish brown leather dyeings.
Example 3 23.4 parts of 6-nitro-2-aminophenol-4 = sulfonic acid who are diazotized in the usual way and in an ice-cold solution of 11 parts of resorcinol and 25 parts of sodium hydroxide in 300 parts Water entered. When the coupling is complete, it is acidified with 50 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid and the monoazo dye is precipitated by saturating the coupling solution with sodium chloride.
After filtration with suction, the dye is dissolved in 600 parts of water at 80 ° C. and metalized by adding 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate and 17 parts of sodium acetate. The copper complex compound is isolated and dissolved in 1000 parts of water at 50.degree. 15 parts of 40% formaldehyde solution and 24 parts of acetic acid are added and the mixture is stirred for a while at 50 ° C.
(In the paper chromatogram, the course of the reaction can be easily followed by comparison with the starting dye, since the condensation product has a reduced migration capacity.) It is salted out with 200 parts of sodium chloride, filtered off with suction and dried at 60 ° C. under reduced pressure. 64 parts of a dye are obtained which dyes leather in strong-term Bordo shades with excellent fastness properties.
If the diazo compound of 2-aminophenol-4-sulfonic acid is coupled with resorcinol in the same way and condensed as a copper complex compound with formaldehyde, one obtains. a dye with which real, reddish brown dyeings are obtained on leather. Example 4 The isolated coupling product of Example 3 is dissolved in 1000 parts of water at 50 ° C. and an aqueous solution of 16.5 parts of iron (III) chloride is added while stirring.
Then gradually 15 parts of 40% formaldehyde solution are added and the mixture is heated to 60 ° C. for 2 hours. After adding 16 parts of sodium acetate, the mixture is heated to 90 ° C. for a further hour and the condensation product is precipitated with 200 parts of sodium chloride and 50 parts of potassium chloride. The isolated dye (61 parts) gives real dark brown dyeings on leather.
Example 5 The isolated coupling product from Example 3 is dissolved in 800 parts of water at 70 ° C., and 25 parts of acetic acid are added. At 401 ° C., 15 parts of 40% formaldehyde solution are gradually run in with stirring, the mixture is heated to 50 ° C. for 2 hours and then to 90 ° C. for a further hour. The reaction product, which has partially precipitated, is completely separated off by adding 200 parts of sodium chloride sucked off.
The product is dissolved in 1300 parts of water at 50 ° C. and, after the addition of 22 parts of 25% strength ammonia solution, an aqueous solution of 12 parts of crystallized cobalt (II) chloride is run in. Evaporation of the dye solution gives 117 parts of a dye which dyes leather in strong blue-tinged Bordo shades with very good light and perspiration fastness.
Betspiel 6 The diazo solution of 23.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulfonic acid is mixed with 32 parts of 1-amino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid in the presence of sodium carbonate coupled. The monaazo dye formed is isolated, dissolved in 1400 parts of water, 40 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid are added to the solution and the mixture is cooled to -I-5C.
33 parts of 23% sodium nitrite solution are gradually added with stirring and the diazotization mixture is stirred for 3 hours at 5 ° C. After removing the excess nitrite, an aqueous solution of 11 parts of resorein is added and an aqueous solution of 22 parts of sodium carbonate is then gradually added to run.
After the coupling has ended, the product is salted out and filtered off with suction. The disazo dye obtained dissolves in water with an olive-green color, which turns pure green with soda. 16.5 parts of sodium acetate, 12 parts of acetic acid and a solution of 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate are added to the solution of the dye thus obtained in 1200 parts of water at 60.degree.
The mixture is heated to 80 ° C. until the formation of the copper complex has ended and then 15 parts of 40% strength formaldehyde solution are gradually added to the acetic acid dye solution. The condensation is carried out for 2 hours at 60 ° C. and 1 hour at 90 ° C. and the mixture is cooled. After filtering and drying, 74 parts of a dye which dyes chrome calfskin black are obtained.
EMI0003.0015
Example 8 23.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulfonic acid are diazotized and alkaline-coupled with 11 parts of resorcinol (see Example 3).
The isolated coupling product is stirred in 800 parts of water, 20 parts of acetic acid and 10 parts of salicylaldehyde are added at 60 ° C. and the mixture is refluxed for 4 hours.
After the reaction mixture has cooled, the condensation product is precipitated with 200 parts of sodium chloride, filtered off with suction and redissolved in 200 parts of water and 35 parts of 25% strength ammonia solution. A solution of 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate in 100 parts of what water is allowed to run in slowly at 70 ° C. with stirring, heated to 70 ° C. for one hour and then evaporated to dryness on a water bath. 53 parts of a dye are obtained which give genuine reddish brown dyeings on leather of various types of tanning.
Example 9 The monoazo compound prepared from 22.3 parts of 2-aminonaphthalene-4,8-disulfonic acid and 11 parts of resorcinol according to the information in Example 1 is made from 6.1 parts of 3-aminobenzaldehyde together with the azo dye and 13 parts of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-pyrazolone- (5) -3'-sulfonic acid in 800 parts of water and 20 parts of acetic acid refluxed for 6 hours until the starting dyes are no longer detectable in the paper chromatogram.
If necessary, a small amount of one of the two dyes is added if the paper chromatogram shows that it was in deficit. The condensation product is salted out with 150 parts of sodium chloride, filtered off with suction and dried at 60 ° C. The dyestuff obtained (65 parts) dyes leather in strong yellow-brown shades.
