Process for the production of new vat dyes of the anthraquinone imidazole series The present invention relates to a process for the production of valuable new vat dyes of the anthraquinone imidazole series of the formula
EMI0001.0006
where A is an anthraquinone radical, R is a six-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic ring,
in which the carboxamide group and the imidazole radical are in the p-position or 4,4'-position or 2,5-position to one another, n is 1 or 2 and Z is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkoxy group.
The new dyes are obtained by using a functional derivative, e.g. B. a halide of a dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC- (R), COOH, where R and n have the meaning given, in any order on the one hand with an amino anthraquinone under carboxamide formation and on the other hand with a 1,2-diaminoanthraquinone of the formula
EMI0001.0028
where Z has the meaning given, condenses with formation of imidazole.
The dicarboxylic acids to be used as starting materials preferably correspond to the formula
EMI0001.0033
wherein X and Y are hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkoxy groups and n is 1 or 2.
The following dicarboxylic acids may be mentioned as examples: terephthalic acid, chloroterephthalic acid, 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid, 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid, 2,5-dimethoxyphthalic acid, 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid, pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, to be used according to the method , 2-diamino anthraquinone is primarily the unsubstituted 1,2-diamino anthraquinone,
also 1,2-diamino-3-chloranthraquinone, 1,2-diamino-3-bromoanthraquinone, 1,2-diamino-3-methoxyanthraquinone and 1,2-diamino, -4-chloranthraquinone.
From the series of aminoanthraquinones to be used according to the method, 1-aminoanthraquinone and its nucleus-substituted derivatives are primarily mentioned, for example: 1-amino-3-chloroanthraquinone 1-amino-5-, -6- or -7-chloroanthraquinone 1-amino -6,7-dichloroanthraquinone 1-amino-4-, -5-,
-6- or -7-methoxyanthraquinone 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone 1-amino-4- or -5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone 1-amino-4- or -5- (p-chlorobenzoylamino) - anthraquinone 1-amino-4- or -5-phenylaminoanthraquinone 1,4-diamino-2-acetylanthraquinone 1,4-diamino-2-benzoylanthraquinone. Other possible aminoanthraquinones are 2-aminoanthraquinone and its core-substituted derivatives,
for example 2-amino-3-chloroanthraquinone or 2-amino-3-bromoanthraquinone, and finally aminoanthraquinones with fused-on hetero rings, for example aminoanthraquinonacridones, especially 4- or 5-aminoanthraquinone-1 (N ) -2-benzacridone or aminoanthrapyrimidines,
for example 4- or 5-aminoanthrapyrimidine.
The components are conveniently condensed in the presence of a solvent or diluent, preferably in nitrobenzene, optionally in conjunction with water- or acid-binding agents, for example sodium carbonate, or a tertiary base such as pyridine. For the 1st stage of the reaction, ie for the half-sided condensation of the dicarboxylic acid halide with the aminoanthraquinone or the 1,2-diaminoanthraquinone, temperatures between 50 to 100 ° C. and the 2nd stage are preferably used.
Stage at temperatures between 150 to 220 C. You can also carry out the two stages in the same vessel without isolating the intermediate product.
The new dyes are valuable vat dyes which can be used in a known manner as such or in the form of their leuco ester salts for dyeing and printing a wide variety of fibers, in particular cellulose fibers. Those of the dyes in accordance with the invention which are derived from 1 or 2 aminoanthraquinone are distinguished. as a result, particularly valuable greenish yellow dyeings of good lightfastness and excellent wetfastnesses are obtained.
Compared with closest comparable, known dyes, the dyes according to the invention are distinguished by better light fastness and greater color strength. The new dyes can also be used as pigments. Compared to the dye described in Example 7 of US Pat. No. 2,206,128, which represents the closest comparable state of the art, the dyes obtainable according to the invention have the advantage of a much greater color strength.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 8 parts of finely powdered 1-aminoanthraquinone are added in small portions to a mixture of 20 parts of terephthaloyl chloride and 0 parts of dry nitrobenzene at 80 with thorough stirring. The mixture is now held at 95 to 100 until the amino compound can no longer be detected (about 2 hours)
_ After this. The compound of the formula which precipitates in the form of yellow crystals will cool down
EMI0002.0065
filtered off and purified from adhering acid chloride by washing with dry nitrobenzene.
3.6 parts of 1,2-Diamino @ anthraquinone are dissolved in 100 parts of dry nitrobenzene at 120. Then 0.5 part of dry pyridine and 5.9 parts of the compound obtained in accordance with paragraph 1 are introduced. The whole is then heated to 180 to 190 within 40 minutes and stirred at this temperature for one hour. Then the temperature is increased to 200 to: 210 and. stirred for a further hour at this temperature. The dye auskri crystallized in fine needles is then isolated by filtration, washed with nitrobenzene, benzene and methanol and dried.

In the dyebath thus obtained, 100 parts of cotton are dyed for one hour at 50 with the addition of 20 parts of sodium chloride. The cotton is then squeezed, oxidized in the air, rinsed, acidified, rinsed again and soaped at the boil. It has a strong greenish yellow color and the coloration has very good fastness properties.
Example 2 4.8 parts. 1,2-Dianunoanthraquinone are dissolved in 300 parts of nitrobenzene at 120 = 130. After adding 0.5 parts by volume of anhydrous pyridine, 9.2 parts of the compound of the formula are obtained
