Method and device for incinerating liquid, water-containing waste materials The object of this invention is a method for incinerating liquid, water-containing waste materials, as well as a device suitable for carrying out the method.
The invention relates to a method in which concentric flows of fuel oil and waste materials are atomized by a gas flow and burned in atomized condition and is characterized in that a flow of the liquid, water-containing waste materials to be burned is axially in the center of a flame fed by the atomized fuel oil flow conducts, since the water portion evaporates and the combustible portion burns, keeping a ratio of combustible to water of at least 2: 1.
The device for carrying out the method is characterized by a burner lance consisting of three coaxial tubes, the innermost of which is intended for the water-containing waste materials and which widens at the fire-side end in a sharp edge at which the fuel oil exits the central tube and is atomized by the gas flow emerging from the outermost tube and carried into the combustion chamber, through a lip adapted to the contours of the expansion of the innermost tube and the mouth of the middle tube for the exiting gas flow and by means
to swirl the gas flow.
Burners made up of various coaxial tubes are already known. In American Patent No. 2,368,373, a burner consisting of 3 coaxial pipes is described in which the pipe in the nerste is intended for compressed air, the middle pipe for oil and the outermost pipe for the supply of steam. The combined action of the air and the steam ensure that the oil is atomized.
The American patent specification No. 2 239 025 shows a burner which is particularly suitable for the combustion of used engine oil and which consists of 4 coaxial nozzles. The oil is fed through the innermost nozzle, compressed air through the next nozzle, additional air drawn in through the second outermost nozzle and steam through the outermost nozzle. The individual nozzle openings are offset from one another longitudinally.
The whole thing is mounted in a pipe that is supplied with additional air by suction and has a spark plug to ignite the mixture. The atomization of the oil is brought about by the combined effect of air and steam.
The burner according to the German patent specification No. 714 160 is intended for the combustion of heavy oil under heating with light oil. It consists of three coaxial, rotatable tubes arranged in a fourth fixed tube. Light oil is supplied through the innermost pipe, the second and fourth, outermost pipes are used to supply the air and the third pipe for adding the heavy oil and additional air. The oil is atomized by rotating the three inner tubes for the light oil and by air atomization for the heavy oil.
In the burner according to German Patent No. 1 164 013, a light oil burner for pressure atomization is arranged concentrically in a heavy oil burner for steam atomization. The pipe for the light oil is in the center, followed by an insulation pipe and the steam pipe, first of all the heavy oil pipe, with the heavy oil coming into contact with the steam shortly before the actual mouth.
None of these burners described is suitable for waste materials containing water.
A sludge burner for oil sludge containing solids has also been described. This consists of a gas- or steam-powered ring-shaped resonance chamber into which the oil sludge is fed through a tube located in the center and flush with the end of the chamber and is atomized by the vibrating gases or vapors. According to the experience made by the inventor, this burner is unsuitable for the combustion of oil products containing more than 5% water.
A device used in waste oil incineration plants for burning water-containing oil consists of a rapidly rotating circular plate arranged in a fire chamber, with which the water-containing oil is atomized. As far as we know, this system is the only one with which water-based oils can also be burned.
Nowadays there are hydrous oils in many places, i. H. Oils with a water content of over 5% that can only be recycled with difficulty. When overhauling house tank systems, large amounts of sludge and water-containing oils must be removed.
In garages, in addition to used motor oils, emulsions of drilling and grinding oils, as well as oils containing abrasives that cannot be used in normal burners, must be repelled. In many companies, water-based emulsions must also be removed, which due to the quality of the emulsifiers used cannot be broken and thus no longer broken down into their constituent parts. Drilling oils and heavy oil sludge also pose major problems when it comes to disposal.
The destruction or recycling of all of these water-containing oils without leaving behind troublesome by-products is therefore an urgent need. It is also the object of the present invention; a task which up to now could not be solved with the help of non-rotating parts having burners.
The basic idea of the invention is based on the teaching of guiding the liquid water-containing waste into the axis of an oil flow atomized by a gas flow in the flame, where the water-containing oil is atomized together with an anhydrous oil flow, the water portion evaporates and the combustible portion is burned.
The gas flow should preferably be rotating and turbulent and should enclose and penetrate the oil flows. In connection with this invention, the term heating oil should be understood to mean an oil with less than 5% water content.
The water-containing waste materials can consist, for example, of oil sludge, oil-containing emulsions or oil-containing rubber or plastic latex or water with dissolved toxins. The heating oil that is supposed to maintain the basic flame,
can consist of light or medium-weight oil with a pour point of zero C or less, or of used oil with no foreign particles, or of heavy oil with a pour point of over 30 C. If the basic flame is fed with light or medium oil, compressed air can be used for the gas flow. For old and heavy oil, superheated steam is required, whereby the oil should be preheated appropriately.
The device for this combustion process should preferably have pipe mouths arranged in a conical surface. The lip of the atomizer tube carrying the gas flow should expediently be designed in such a way that the gas flow steams up the mouths of the two oil tubes.
The device according to the invention will be explained, for example, with reference to the drawing. It shows: Fig. 1 the burner, with the exception of the central tube, drawn in section.
FIG. 2 shows the burner head of FIG. 1, in section, and with greater magnification.
The burner is made up of the lance part 1 and the head 2. The lance comprises, from the inside to the outside, the pipes 3, 4 and 5 with associated Versorgungsan connections 6, 7 and B. The pipe 3 is supplied with the water-containing waste, the pipe 4 with the fuel oil and the pipe 5 with the gas flow . The tube 5 is the actual load-bearing element.
The burner head 2 (see Figure 2) has a screw connection 9 at the fire-side end of the tube 5, which allows an adjustable lip opening 10 to influence the turbulence caused by the gas flow and thus also the shape of the flame. In a chamber recessed in the screw connection 9, a vortex body 11 is arranged which forces a rotary wagon onto the gas flow and mixes it and is screwed to the tube 4. The pipe 3 ends on the fire side in an enlarged chamber 12 with a sharp edge 13.
The lip of the screw connection 9, the sharpened end of the tube 4 and the edge 13 should expediently be in a conical surface with any opening angle.
The following example is intended to explain the invention in more detail.
Example A vertical tube boiler with an hourly output of 12 tons of steam at 9 atmospheres is fired with the aid of a burner shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing after reaching the operating state for 2 equal time intervals according to the table. In both operating modes, the same amount of juice vapor of 2.5 atm is used for atomization after overheating in a preheater.
The pipe 3 is fed with an oil emulsion and the pipe 4 with heavy oil.

only oil with a maximum of 5% water can be used for the basic flame. If the oil used for the basic flame has a higher water content, the flame cannot be maintained.
In contrast, emulsions with a water content of up to 95% and more can be used for combustion in combined operation.
With an oil content of more than 6%, the amount of heat used to evaporate the water can be compensated for in mineral oil emulsions. A practically smokeless combustion is achieved. Corrosion of the boiler due to emulsion fractions can be prevented in a known manner by injecting magnesium oxide powder into the flame.
Instead of emulsions, according to the present invention, water- and sludge-like residues from house tank cleaning can be burned off without any problems. Finally, the burner is also suitable for burning oil with dirt particles whose size is close to the diameter of the pipe 3.
In all of these cases, the burner is initially started up with the base oil alone. When a stable flame is reached, which only takes a few minutes, the water-containing oil is fed in at a ratio of total oil to water of at least 2: 1, depending on the requirements. Only minimal oil pressures are necessary for this, whereby, for example, a 2 m level difference between the tank outlet and the burner height is sufficient.
