Method for tight lap welding and welding system for carrying out the method The present invention relates to a method for tight lap welding of self-contained weld seams, in particular under protective gas, as well as a welding system for carrying out the method.
In the case of bead seams that close in automatic arc welding operation with constant spatial feed, it is difficult to make the overlap completely gas-tight.
The reason for this difficulty lies in the fact that the material to be welded, usually in the form of two parts to be connected, cannot have as high a temperature at the beginning as the formation of a good arc as the base point requires in order to be constant and uninterrupted burn.
The bonded condition of the caterpillar seam is therefore also insufficient at the beginning, so that fine pore openings can form.
But even when the seam is closed with re-overlapping of the bead, these pores cannot be closed because the energy supplied is now more distributed over a larger amount of material, namely the material of the previously applied and the new bead. In particular, it is not always possible to start without repeating the ignition process, so that for this reason alone there are interruptions or constrictions in the seam.
The method according to the invention aims to eliminate these disadvantages. It is characterized by the fact that the welding speed is reduced in order to overlap. The welding system for carrying out this method is characterized in that a limit switch is provided to control the welding movement.
The invention is then explained using the drawing, for example. It shows: FIG. 1 welding speed / path diagram in a dimensionless representation of the speed, FIG. 2 a section from a connecting seam of two radiator elements, in section, FIG. 3 a part of the connection according to FIG. 2, in the developed state, in section, FIG 4 shows the diagram according to FIG. 1 in polar coordinate representation, FIG. 5 is a double diagram in which, depending on the time, the arc current intensity J when the arc is ignited several times, and the field intensity E with the switch-on field intensity Eo of the switching relay is Darge .
The welding process is carried out as follows: In point 1, the turning device is switched on and the welding piece assumes a rotational speed which, according to point 2, has for example 80% of the maximum rotational speed which is to be achieved. The speed of rotation is then slowly increased to the maximum value in point 3. This ensures that, despite the cold sheet metal, the weld penetration takes place sufficiently deep when starting up. This value remains constant over the remaining circumference of the weld seam at its maximum value until shortly before the end of the circumference according to point 4 - or until the end itself - whereupon the overlap begins.
In point 4, the rotational speed is again reduced according to the line 4-5 to, for example, 80% of the maximum rotational speed, in order to then remain at this value on the overlap part 5-6 of the weld seam and then to have reached the rest position in point 7, decreasing steadily.
The course of the line 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 is not exactly tied to that according to FIGS. 1 and 4. In particular, the initial and final rotational speed of the welded pieces can be somewhat higher (but at most 90 ° / o) or lower than 80 ° / o.
It is essential that this rotational speed at the beginning of the weld (point 2) and at the end in the overlap phase has a value that deviates significantly from the maximum rotational speed in order to ensure that the overlap zone or the beginning and end of the weld seam is free of pores and thus become gas-tight. Due to the slowed movement on the line 4-6 there is also a good penetration of the overlapping end at the beginning of the weld seam, the overlap seam being less high as a result of this better penetration than without speed regulation.
In addition, the accelerated or decelerated movements do not have to take place in a straight line, but can follow a non-linear law.
It has been shown that a sudden adjustment of the rotational speed is less favorable than a steady one, but depending on the material and the initial and final speed, a greater or lesser acceleration is necessary.
The switching of the rotational speed takes place with the usual switching operations, i. H. with end switches of mechanical or electrical design at the predetermined locations. Just before the burner reaches the start of the weld seam after driving around it once,
the reversible limit switch switches and the speed of rotation is reduced according to line pull 4-5. The circuit of the limit switch in point 4 can be adjusted arbitrarily with respect to the scope.
The initiation of the rotary or forward movement takes place depending on the achievement of the necessary welding current strengths.
Therefore, after the definitive ignition process, the rotary movement is switched on with a delayed contactor of 10-12 ursec. If the ignition of the arc repeats, which occurs when the arc breaks off in the sense of FIG. 5, the welded parts must not be moved, otherwise there will be constrictions and defects in the weld seam.
It is therefore necessary to delay the pick-up of the current relay, which triggers the rotary movement, in such a way that when the arc breaks, which is around 60-100 ursec when starting repeats, it does not switch on and the longitudinal movement does not take place. A corresponding delay can be achieved with the help of a copper short-circuit winding on the core of the current relay. In this way it is ensured that if the arc is ignited once, the command to initiate the rotary movement is given in the shortest response time, i.e. H. takes place in 10-12 ursec, whereas with appropriate repetition, i. H.
Breaking of the arc, only after a long time, d. H. after 60-100 ursec, the feed can be switched on so that the ignition faults in the weld seam can largely be avoided.
In Fig. 5, the ignition process is shown at repeated tearing from the arc, the arc current intensity J is entered on the ordinate in the upper part and the time t is entered on the abscissa. This means that the arc only persists after the fourth ignition, which is shown in the lower part of the diagram, where the magnetic flux E in the command relay for the rotary movement is shown on the abscissa. When this magnetic flux E has reached a certain strength, the switch-on field strength Eo, the rotary movement is initiated.
The speed diagram of the rotary torch expressed in FIGS. 1 and 4 applies in particular to a welding machine with CO 2 welding to achieve direct overlaps, with the weld seam 14 having a diameter of about 50 mm and the associated overlap 18 of the weld seam 10 mm.
It can also be seen from FIG. 1 that the increase in the rotational speed from the 80% to the 100% value can take place more quickly or more slowly. Furthermore, the structure of the weld can be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3: One shell of a radiator element has a lower and the other an upper flange edge 10 and 12, which are to be connected to one another by welding. The welding takes place in the sense of the diagram according to FIGS. 1 and 4 and it gives a weld seam 14 which is overlapped over a length of approximately 20%.
In Figs. 2 and 3, the caterpillar overlap 18 is shown, which he gives when the rotational speed is controlled in the sense of the present invention, while a caterpillar overlap 20 with insufficient penetration without the like rotational speed control is created.
For the purposes of the invention, it is advantageous to reduce the spatial advance speed of the arc or the torch at the start and end of the seam where an increased heat output due to still cold workpieces or a larger amount of material is necessary so that to At the beginning of the process, the temperature is reached more quickly at the starting point, which makes the bond more intensive, and smaller constriction or defective zones also occur with repeated ignition.
On the other hand, when closing the circle or the weld bead of any shape, for good integration of the overlap, an increased heat output is again necessary in order to warm up the starting point well and in this way to integrate it well into the closing bead. Here too, as practice has shown, the feed rate will be reduced with success.
It is of the greatest importance that the overlap seam is burned into the underlying basic seam, which is achieved by reducing the welding speed accordingly.
In this way it is possible, by changing the speed of rotation when welding overlapping seams at the beginning and at the end of the welding process, to produce absolutely pore-free and therefore completely tight weld seams.
