Fig. 1 zeigt einen Querschnitt durch die Maschine;
Fig. 2 eine Draufsicht auf die Maschine.
Folding machine with pairs of folding rollers arranged one above the other
The invention relates to a folding machine with pairs of folding rollers arranged one above the other and folding pockets assigned to these roller pairs, in which the first fold of the sheet takes place in the gap of the lower pair of folding rollers and the next fold in the gap of the pair of folding rollers above.
Such machines are known per se and are used in printing, bookbinding and similar businesses.
However, conventional folding machines are not suitable for use in offices. They are too heavy, too big and also too loud. The purchase price is expensive. In addition, the operation of such machines requires specially trained personnel. These are the reasons why folding machines have not yet been introduced in offices, although many types of folding work occur in offices, e.g. B. Daily mail, circulars, etc.
The aim of the invention is to create a small and light, inexpensive and yet powerful folding machine tailored to the needs of normal office operations, which is easy to operate and can also be easily transported. Such a machine must be very low in height and ensure a convenient sheet feed and ejection position so that it can be set up on normal office desks.
Daily mail, consisting of several sheets, stapled or not stapled, must also be able to be folded efficiently without lengthy adjustment.
The folding machine according to the invention is characterized in that the axes of the delivery roller pair and the axes of the successive folding rollers are each arranged obliquely one above the other and the feed or stacking table with the delivery roller pair is arranged in front of the gap of the first folding roller pair.
A particularly expedient embodiment of the invention has an attachable additional unit which consists of a pair of folding rollers and folding pockets associated with these folding rollers and which can be placed on the frame with the side plates of this additional unit.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through the machine;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the machine.
The two side walls 2, preferably made of sheet metal and held together by connecting struts 1, carry the stationary bearings 3 in which the driven folding rollers 4 and 5 run.
The rollers are driven by a controllable motor 6, belt pulley 7 and drive belt 8. The rollers are preferably made of steel with a corrugated or corded surface. The rubber rollers 9 and 10 are driven by frictional engagement and are resiliently mounted in a known manner. They automatically adapt to the respective paper thickness. Upstream of the first pair of folding rollers 4 and 9 is a feed roller 11 running at reduced speed which, in conjunction with the fixed retaining roller 12, forms an adjustable passage gap 13 which corresponds to the paper thickness to be processed. With this device, only one sheet at a time is always conveyed in a known manner with automatic paper sheet feeding.
The feed table 14 can be loaded with stacks of paper 15, the top sheet 16 in each case being automatically fed to the folding rollers 4 and 9. But it can also be fed by hand each individual set of paper, which z. B. is the case with daily mail, which can consist of several sheets. For this purpose, the passage gap 13 is set so large that the set of sheets can be fed to the folding rollers 4 and 9 without touching the feed roller 11.
The top sheet of the stack of paper 16 is grasped by the pair of delivery rollers 11, 12 and then fed by the first folding rollers 4 and 9 to the first folding pocket 17, which carries an adjustable pocket stop 18 which can be adjusted to the desired fold length using a scale 19. The second folding pocket 20 has the same structure as the first. After reaching the stop 18 in the folding pocket 17, the sheet bends due to compression in the folding space in front of the mouth of the folding pocket 17 until it is gripped by the folding rollers 8, 9, folded and fed to the folding pocket 20 until it hits the stop of this folding pocket pushes. As a result of the compression occurring here, the sheet bends in the folding space in front of the mouth of the pocket 20 until it is grasped by the folding rollers 5, 10, folded and ejected by them in the direction of the collecting table.
The finished folded sheet 21 falls by its own weight on the first folding pocket 17, the folded sheets 22 form a stack on the stop rods 23 and can be removed at will. It is also possible to catch the folded sheet by hand as soon as it leaves the last folding roller, which is particularly useful when processing individual items such as individual letter mail.
An additional unit consisting of two side plates 24 and the two folding rollers 25 and 26 as well as the two folding pockets 27 and 28 is connected to the frame 2 and enables an extension to the 4-pocket machine, with which 4 parallel folds can also be folded.
