Device for checking the geometrical dimensions of objects
The invention relates like the main patent to a device for testing geometric dimensions of objects by means of a light source and a light-sensitive device, means are provided to bring about a relative movement between the object to be tested and a light beam and a counter for displaying the movement during the movement Dimension is actuated, and wherein the object covers the beam opposite to the photosensitive device and further means are provided for generating and counting a series of pulses during the relative movement so that these provide an indication of the dimensions to be checked.
The device according to the present invention is also distinguished from that according to the main patent in that the light-sensitive device has a plurality of light-sensitive elements which are arranged along a line in order to simultaneously detect the dimensions of the object at several points.
Means may be provided to adjust the position of each photosensitive element so that it can be brought into the most suitable position for measuring different objects. Additionally or alternatively, switches can be provided in order to switch some of the light-sensitive elements off or on opposite the working connection to the circuit, depending on whether it is desired or not to carry out a measurement process at the point which any of them reproduces on a component.
Advantageously, the object rests on a carrier which is arranged to move past the light beam, and the carrier also has a scale with an associated reading device in order to generate calibration pulses as soon as the carrier moves.
These calibration pulses are gate circuits or
Evaluation circuits supplied, one of which is provided for each light-sensitive element and which are controlled by the output from the associated photosensitive element so that the pulses only overflow any evaluation circuit during the period in which the light beam from the associated photosensitive element through part of the Object is shielded, which passes through the light beam. The pulses that overflow each evaluation circuit are fed to a counter, where they are compared with a specified number of pulses or related to this specified number of pulses, which is equal to the number of calibration pulses that should overflow the circuit when the object being measured has the desired degree of this level.
An embodiment of the invention will now be explained with reference to the attached drawing, namely show:
Fig. 1 is a schematic embodiment of a device according to the invention,
FIG. 2 is a view seen from the line II-II of FIG. 1.
According to the drawing, a light source 1 of small dimensions lies in the focus of a collecting lens or a lens system 2. A concave mirror 3 behind the light source is used to increase the amount of light captured by the lens through reflection. The lens system 2 generates a parallel or almost parallel light beam which is directed onto a second converging lens or a lens system 4 which generates an image of the light source at 5, at which point an iris diaphragm 6 can be arranged, which is used for this purpose to control the angle of incidence of the light that has traveled a parallel or nearly parallel path between the two lens systems.
The light that arrives in focus at the location of the iris diaphragm 6 can diverge until it strikes the screen 7, which is provided with a series of openings 8 (FIG. 2), behind each of which a photosensitive element, e.g. B. a photocell 9 is arranged. It can be seen that a smaller or larger number of perforations or photosensitive elements can be provided according to the type of object to be measured and according to the distance between adjacent points that are to be measured on an object. The object to be measured 10, which is shown as a piston in the drawing example, is arranged so that it passes through the light beam and, for this purpose, is supported on a moving platform 11 to which the moving part of a scale 12 is also connected .
The platform is driven by a motor 13. The fixed portion of the scale and the optical reading head 14 are arranged so that it will accurately measure the movement of the platform in the form of a train of pulses, e.g. B. an impulse for each platform movement in the order of magnitude 0.0025 mm can be generated. Each pulse generated by the scale system is amplified by an amplifier 15 and fed to one of the inputs of several evaluation circuits 16, one of which is provided for each photosensitive element 9. The outputs from the photosensitive elements are connected to a second input of the circuit 16 via switch 17 and amplifier 18. The platform 11 can be provided with a chuck 19 in which the piston can be mounted, under the control of a mechanical or electromechanical ejection mechanism 20.
As soon as the platform moves the piston 10 through the light beam, a sharply defined shadow of its edge will cross the openings 8 and cause corresponding changes in the exits of the photosensitive elements depending on whether they are in the shadow or not that caused by the edge of the piston is caused at any moment. The magnification of the shadow obtained depends on the relative distance of the focus at the location of the iris diaphragm 6 from the lens system 4 and the screen 7. The outputs from the photosensitive elements 9 to the gate circuits 6 control them so that they only let through the pulses which are supplied by the reading head 14 and represent the movement of the platform 11 when the associated photosensitive devices are in the shade.
In this way, each gate circuit 16 produces a number of output pulses which represent the dimension of the piston at the point on the piston which creates the shadow which falls on the photosensitive element. The outputs from the gate circuits 16 are each fed to a separate counter 21, which is also fed with a signal from a program unit 22. This signal is in the form of a pulse train which gives the exact dimension for the component at the point in question and is compared to the result or number that goes through the appropriate gate for that dimension.
A lower number on the reading head 14 indicates that the dimension is smaller than it should be, while a higher number indicates that the dimension is greater than the exact value. This information can be used to actuate the mechanical ejection mechanism 20 via a control unit 23 in order to eject the object if its dimensions lie outside the permissible tolerance limits, or in order to actuate a suitable indicator, not shown. A printer 24, actuated by the output from the counters via the switches 25 controlled by the program unit 22, can produce a printed record of the measured mass on the basis of information from the program unit.
The program unit 22 also controls the setting of the switches 17 in such a way that only those photosensitive elements are made effective in order to generate outputs which are required to effect the necessary measuring processes on a particular object.
The program unit can be provided for either a manually operated or an automatic control system.
