Fig. <SEP> 1 <SEP> einen <SEP> schematischen <SEP> Schnitt <SEP> durch <SEP> ein <SEP> Schweiss mittelkorn <SEP> mit <SEP> Eisenkern;

Zusammenfassend bietet das erfindungsgemässe Schweissmittel folgende Vorteile: Gleichmässige Zusammensetzung von Schweissmittel und Schweissgut unter praktisch allem Bedingungen; Er höhung der Abschmelzleistung um ein mehrfaches im Vergleich unter sonst analogen Bedingungen aber mit einem Schweissmittel ohne Eisenanteil;
Verbilligung des Schweissgutes, da Eisenpulver billiger ist als das übliche Drahtmaterial; bessere Energieausnützung, da pro Kilo abgelagertes Schweissgut weniger Schlacke aufgeschmol zen werden, muss;
Verbesserung der Eigenschaften des Schweissgutes im Vergleich zu normalen Schweisspul- vern auf gleicher Schlackebasis;
beim Schweissen von vergütetem Stahl kann ,die wärmebeeinflusste Zone um die Schweisstelle vermindert werden, da bei gleicher Schweissleistung der Wärmeüberhang n Joule/cm Schweissnaht erheblich gesenkt werden kann;
Welding means In order to increase the melting rate during the electric welding of ferrous metals, it is known to introduce further metal in addition to the actual electrode metal, e.g.
B. incorporate iron powder into the coating material fron jacket electrodes. At the. For the same purpose, automatic CO2 welding was proposed to use hollow or crimped wire whose cavity is filled with iron powder and / or slag former.
Finally, an attempt was made to add iron powder to an agglomerated welding agent for submerged arc welding of ferrous metal. The iron powder is added to the finished welding agent granulate in an amount of up to 30% by weight. Despite the increase in the deposition rate that can be achieved with this experimental material, such welding means could not be introduced in practice.
One reason for this is that the mixture of welding agglomerate and iron powder has a pronounced tendency to separate during storage or storage.
shows the transport and leads to a completely inhomogeneous material. Another reason is that the mixtures mentioned become increasingly electrically conductive in the upper range of the specified iron content, which makes submerged arc welding difficult or impossible.
The present invention should now be an electrically practically non-conductive agglomerated welding agent for the submerged arc welding of ferrous metals, which contains a metallic portion in addition to slag formers, has a homogeneous composition independent of storage and transport conditions and can contain a high iron content.
The agglomerated welding agent according to the invention is characterized in that it is an electrically practically non-conductive granulate with at least about 30% by weight metallic content, wherein: this metallic content consists at least predominantly of practically umloyed iron and wherein the individual grains of the Granules have at least for the most part practically the same composition as the entire welding material.
The usual oxidic substances can be used as slag formers. Normally, the loop-forming portion of the agglomerated welding agent according to the invention contains the components customary for the known welding agents: l of the type mentioned, primarily calcium fluoride, silicon dioxide or silicate and usually at least one further oxide.
It should be emphasized that the following information on the composition refers to the analysis values of a given slag producer. The components mentioned therefore do not need to be present as individual oxides, but can also be present as complex oxides or in another oxygen-containing form customary for slag-forming substances. The most commonly used slag formers, as they are also suitable in the present context, include the following components: MnO, A1203, CaO, MgO, BaO, CaF2, S02, ZrO2. The cited slag formers generally make up 5-70% by weight of the welding agent according to the invention.
The metallic portion of the welding agent according to the invention contains iron in metallic, practically unalloyed form and preferably in an amount of at least 30% by weight, based on the total welding agent.
The iron content is preferably significantly higher and can make up 90% by weight or more of the welding agent according to the invention without it becoming electrically conductive or showing signs of separation. As a rule, practically alloyed iron is to be understood as having a proportion of at least 95% Fe. Technical iron powders with at least 98% Fe are suitable and who are preferred for economic reasons.
They usually contain small amounts of contaminants such. B. up to 0.2 0 / o C, up to 0.5 0 / o Mn, up to 0.25 0 / o Si, up to 0.05 S and up to 0.05 0 / a P. These Proportions are just as irrelevant for the welding material in question, as are any other iron components present in trace amounts. The welding agent according to the invention can contain 0-4.0% by weight of the usual alloying or deoxidizing agents, e.g.
B. one or more of the following elements in alloyed or non-alloyed form: manganese, silicon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, niobium, boron, zirconium, titanium, aluminum, magnesium, calcium. The metallic portion of the welding agent according to the invention (unalloyed iron and any alloying and deoxidizing agents) is contained practically uniformly in the grains of the granulate, as explained in more detail below. The metallic portion usually makes up 30-95% by weight, preferably at least 50% by weight, of the welding granulate.
According to a further preferred embodiment, practically every grain of the granulate has a core made of iron, which has a covering consisting at least predominantly of slag forming agents. In this embodiment, the metallic portion of the welding agent is preferably at least 70% practically unalloyed iron.
To produce the welding means according to the invention, the procedure can basically be followed as is usual for producing agglomerated welding means (ceramic flux>). For this purpose z. B. agglomerated a powder mixture with the help of a binder and the resulting grains of agglomerated powder mixture heated, for. B. to 300-500 C.
The usual binders, in particular water glass, can be used. To produce the welding agent according to the invention, a powder mixture can be used for the agglomeration which contains at least 30% by weight of iron in the form of particles of practically unalloyed iron.
The iron particles are preferably larger than all other components of the powder mixture. This leads to the formation of an agglomerate in which the coarse iron powder particles are practically completely enveloped by the finer slag-forming particles, so that the resulting granulate is electrically non-conductive after drying.
Electrically non-conductive here means that the solid, i.e. H. non-melted welding material, an electrical short-circuit between the electrode wire and the base metal under the given welding conditions.
The structure of individual grains of the welding agent according to the invention is illustrated schematically in the accompanying drawing. Show it:
EMI0002.0053
Fig. <SEP> 1 <SEP> a <SEP> schematic <SEP> section <SEP> through <SEP> a <SEP> medium grain weld <SEP> with <SEP> iron core;
<tb> Fig. <SEP> 2 <SEP> a <SEP> schematic <SEP> section <SEP> through <SEP> a <SEP> welding medium grain <SEP> with <SEP> core <SEP> made of <SEP> slag-forming agent <SEP> and
<tb> Fig. <SEP> 3 <SEP> a <SEP> schematic <SEP> section <SEP> through <SEP> a <SEP> medium weld grain <SEP> even <SEP> agglomeration.
In detail, Figure 1 shows a core 1 made of practically unalloyed iron with a coating of slag forming particles 3 and alloy or deoxidation particles 2. The schematic structure of a material remains practically the same even without the grain component 2, ie. H. shows a coating of the iron core 1 with a non-conductive layer of slag-forming particles (in this and the other figures the iron particles are hatched, the slag-forming particles are white, the particles of deoxidation or alloying components are shown in black).
It should be emphasized that the structure of FIG. 1 is of a schematic nature. The iron core 1 does not necessarily lie exactly in the center of the grain and does not necessarily consist of a single, connected iron particle. Rather, the core can consist of two or more iron particles,
which are more or less separated by particles from the finer components of the agglomerate. In any case, it is essential that the iron component has a considerable, i.e. H. 3U-90% and more of the aggregate heating of the granulate forms and that the iron particles are surrounded by the non-conductive slag-forming particles in such a way that the granulate does not conduct electricity.
FIG. 1 shows that with this preferred structural form of the agglomerate according to the invention, the slag base of conventionally agglomerated welding agents that has been customary up to now can be abandoned and that an electrically non-conductive agglomerate based on metal, in particular iron based, can be formed.
FIG. 2 shows a section through a single grain or agglomerate with a core 4 of slag-forming material, further slag-forming grains 5, which, however, have a finer grain size than the core 4, iron particles 7 and particles 6 made of metallic or semi-metallic alloy or deoxidation material.
This schematic illustration shows that, compared to the structure of FIG. 1, only a relatively lower iron content can be achieved in the individual agglomerate grains if the entire product consists of such structured grains and should not be electrically conductive.
Figure 3 shows the structure of an agglomerate grain of particles of a similar size, namely the slag-forming particles 8, the iron particles 9 and the particles 10 made of alloying or deoxidation material. With regard to the proportion of iron that can be incorporated into the individual grain without making the welding means electrically conductive, this embodiment is between the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
It should be noted that in the welding agent according to the invention, depending on the choice of grain size of the components of the powder mixture that is subjected to agglomeration, all three of the types of agglomerated grains mentioned can be present next to one another. In principle, another embodiment is also possible, namely one with a core made of deoxidizing or alloying material.
However, since the last-mentioned component makes up at most 40% by weight of the welding agent according to the invention, this embodiment is of minor importance. The grain size of the agglomerate grains is the same size and standard for this type of welding material. is z. B. about 1 to about 5 mm, with a preferred average of about 2 to about 3 mm.
As mentioned above, the construction shown schematically in Figure 1 allows the highest iron content and is therefore preferred.
In the following examples, all data in percent relate to weight. <I> Example </I> i The following powder mixture is prepared: 67% iron powder (technical powder, composition as above), grain size 0.5-1 mm, 2% siliconanganese with a grain size of about 0.05 mm,
20% wollastonite with a grain size of about 0.05 mm, 6% oFlusspat with a grain size of 0.005-0.3 mm and 5% zirconium silicate with a grain size of about 0.1 mm.
This powder mixture is agglomerated to a granular mass with the addition of about 5-10% water glass, whereby the mineral components and the deoxidizer (silicon manganese) completely envelop the relatively coarse iron powder particles, so that after drying an entirely non-conductive welding powder is produced. The granular mass obtained in this way is sieved out and the sieve fractions with a size of 0.3 mm-2.0 mm are calcined at 400 ° C.
The material obtained in this way is an excellent agglomerated welding agent for submerged arc welding of ferrous metals, i.e. H. Iron and iron alloys with a predominant iron content are electrically non-conductive and have a melting rate several times higher than that of conventional welding media (expressed in kg / hour). The individual grains of the granulate have for the most part practically the same composition as the entire welding material.
Any demixing phenomena are excluded under all occurring conditions. The above-mentioned particle sizes of the components of the powder mixture are not particularly critical. Preferably, the iron particles should have sizes of about 0.5-1 mm and all other components of the powder mixture should have average particle dimensions of 1 to about 100 microns.
<I> Example 2 </I> A welding powder for joint welding of high-alloy steel with a strength of about 52 kg / mm 'is produced according to the method specified in Example 1. The composition of the starting mixture is as follows:

<tb> SiO2 <SEP> 10 <SEP>% by weight When welding with a normal S 1 wire (Dir 8557), this welding powder is delivered; Weld metal that contains about 1.3% Mn and about 0.5% Si.
In comparison to an analogous submerged arc welding with a welding powder that did not contain any non-alloyed iron, the melting rate with the welding powder according to the invention is about two to three times higher, regardless of the current strength.

Example <I> 5 </I> A welding powder for plating unalloyed steel with stainless weld metal in a layer is prepared according to the method of Example 1 from a powder mixture of the following composition:
EMI0003.0072
Iron powder <SEP> 17 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> Ni <SEP> (met.) <SEP> 13 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> Cr <SEP> (met.) <SEP> 22 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> Mn <SEP> (met.) <SEP> 2 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> CaO <SEP> 15 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> CaF2 <SEP> 10 <SEP> wt .-%
<tb> ZrO2 <SEP> 6 <SEP>% by weight
<tb> SiO2 <SEP> 15 <SEP> wt .-% With an austenitic filler wire of the type 18 Cr 8 Ni, a weld metal with a ferrite content of approx. 5 0 is obtained in one layer on an unalloyed steel (St. 37) / 0. The hardness peaks in the transition from the weld metal to the base material are very low (HVi max. 200).
In summary, the welding agent according to the invention offers the following advantages: Uniform composition of welding agent and weld metal under practically all conditions; It increases the deposition rate several times over in comparison under otherwise similar conditions but with a welding agent without iron content;
The weld metal is cheaper because iron powder is cheaper than the usual wire material; better use of energy, since less slag has to be melted per kilo of weld metal deposited;
Improvement of the properties of the weld metal compared to normal welding powders based on the same slag;
When welding heat-treated steel, the heat-affected zone around the welding point can be reduced, since the heat overhang n joules / cm weld seam can be reduced considerably with the same welding performance;
With a given bead height of the weld seam, the burn into the base material and the proportion of the base material in the entire weld bead can be considerably reduced, which is particularly important for hard overlay welding; better evenness of the weld metal with changed welding data.
