Device for monitoring the exhaust gas temperatures in multi-cylinder internal combustion engines
The invention relates to a device for monitoring the exhaust gas temperatures in multi-cylinder internal combustion engines, in particular large diesel engines.
The course of the exhaust gas temperature provides important information about the combustion process of the individual cylinders, it can therefore, converted into an electrical measured variable, be used to indicate dangerous situations. It is known to measure the exhaust gas temperatures of the individual cylinders in a cyclical sequence and to compare them automatically with a fixed setpoint.
With this method, however, a hazard-indicating exceeding or falling below the exhaust gas temperature in individual cylinders can only be determined for a load condition corresponding to the fixed setpoint. However, since the level of the exhaust gas temperature slides between idling and full load with the load changes, the temperature setpoint with which the actual values of the exhaust gas temperature of the individual cylinders should be compared in order to be able to better control the particularly critical states when starting and stopping large internal combustion engines, be adjustable according to the machine load.
The invention is based on the object of creating a monitoring device for the exhaust gas temperature of multi-cylinder internal combustion engines that is as automated as possible and in which, in all load conditions, the actual temperature of the exhaust gases from the individual cylinders is determined to be above or below the target temperature of the load point can be. As a solution to this problem, it is proposed to arrange two thermocouples as measuring sensors in the exhaust gas flow of each cylinder, one of which is in a series circuit with a voltage divider at which a part of the total voltage of all thermocouples connected in series is tapped, which corresponds to the number of cylinders.
Against this partial voltage, the voltages of the second thermocouples of each cylinder are cyclically switched one after the other and the resulting differential voltages are fed to comparison and display devices. The partial voltage produced from the series connection of the thermocouples via the voltage divider is therefore to be regarded as a sliding setpoint that changes with the load condition of the internal combustion engine and with which the actual values of the exhaust gas temperatures of the individual cylinders are compared.
If a malfunction occurs in individual cylinders, this becomes noticeable, for example, in the case of coking through a drop, in the case of lubrication errors through an increase in the exhaust gas temperature. If the differential voltage resulting from the comparison of the target and actual values exceeds the values specified in the comparator, an alarm is triggered. In the event of a malfunction, the target temperature derived from the series connection of the thermocouples has the proportional error of the temperature of the malfunctioning cylinder, but the error becomes smaller the greater the number of cylinders in the machines and can therefore in most cases be accepted or neglected will.
To explain the invention, an embodiment is shown schematically in the figure and described below.
The cylinders ... flow into the exhaust gas. Z5 of an 8-cylinder internal combustion engine, two thermocouples at, b2 ... a8, b8 are arranged. In order to achieve the same temperature potential as possible, the two thermocouples are housed close together in a sleeve (not shown here) that is lined up in the exhaust gas flow. The thermocouples ast ... a8 are connected in series. Their total voltage drops across a voltage divider R which has a tap T at which 1/8 of the total voltage can be taken as the mean value of the exhaust gas temperatures of all cylinders.
By means of a relay switch, not shown, controlled by a clock, the contacts .... m8 operated one after the other and the voltages of the thermocouples ..... b8 fed in cyclic sequence to a comparator circuit, where they are compared with the mean voltage obtained from the voltage divider R. The comparator circuit consists of a zero amplifier V and two flip-flops ST and SH for an upper and lower limit value. If, in the event of a cylinder malfunction, the differential voltage exceeds the specified values upwards or downwards, the corresponding triggering stage responds and an optical and / or acoustic alarm is triggered.
By pressing a button on one of the switches dz ... d8, the thermocouple bn of the faulty cylinder can be switched to a display device Az, from which information on the type of fault can be taken. In order to ensure that the monitoring of the properly working cylinders is not interrupted in the event of an individual malfunction, the malfunctioning cylinder can be removed from the monitoring cycle during the alarm state.
For this purpose, there are eight parallel-connected series contacts in the amplifier input. Each parallel branch consists of a series connection of a contact s, l of the alarm signal relay assigned to each cylinder and a contact mn of the corresponding measuring point relay, where n counts from 1 to 8. The contact sn closes in the event of an alarm, the contact mn with the cyclical control of the measuring point of the relevant cylinder. If both contacts are closed in this way, modulation of the amplifier V and the multivibrator SH and ST is prevented.
