Fig. 1 ein Prinzipschema der erfindungsgemässen Einrichtung,
Method and device for flow measurement in pipelines
The invention relates to a method for measuring flow velocities or quantities in pipelines, in which a disturbance is injected into the line and the transit time of this disturbance is determined over a measuring section, and a device for carrying out this method.
In a known method of this type, the injected disturbance consists in an enrichment of the material to be measured with isotopes, the flow velocity being measured by means of two Geiger counters which are at a certain distance from one another. The disadvantage of this method lies on the one hand in the enrichment of the liquid with isotopes, on the other hand it is not possible to carry out several measurements in sufficiently short time intervals because the isotopes are scattered.
This disadvantage is avoided according to the invention in that a gas bubble is injected as a disturbance and its passage is determined at the beginning and end of the measuring section by means of ultrasound, the ultrasound irradiation occurring approximately perpendicular to the pipe axis.
This new measurement method is based on the fact that every point of discontinuity in the flow medium that enters the ultrasound transmission area measurably influences the ultrasound transmission. The gas resp.
Air bubble does not let the ultrasound through; it is therefore the most suitable for performing the procedure.
The size of the gas bubble can be matched to the pipe diameter so that both lami-. naren and in turbulent flow conditions, the mean liquid velocity can be measured. The gas is taken from a pressure system and expanded until its pressure is only slightly higher than that in the pipeline to be measured.
The introduction of the gas takes place before the first ultrasonic field in any existing valve, flange connection or idler equivalent.
The device for carrying out the new method is characterized according to the further invention by at least two ultrasonic barriers formed from an ultrasonic transmitting and receiving head each, which can be placed on a pipe, the transmitting heads being connected to an ultrasonic generator and the receiving heads being connected to the trigger of a timer are.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing; show it:
1 shows a schematic diagram of the device according to the invention,
2 shows a first embodiment of the ultrasonic barrier or the lead fastening of the transmitting and receiving heads on the pipeline in the side view,
3 shows a section along the line III-III of FIGS. 2 and
Fig. 4 shows a second embodiment of the ultrasonic barrier in axial section.
In Fig. 1, the pipeline is designated by 1, the ultrasonic generator by 2, the ultrasonic transmitting heads by 3 and 3 ', the ultrasonic receiving heads by 4 and 4' and the timer by 5.
The gas bubble denoted by 6 is introduced at a connection 8 of the pipeline which, with respect to the flow direction of the medium to be measured symbolized by the arrow 9, lies in front of the measuring section 3, 43 ', 4'). In practice, the measuring section is arranged behind an existing connection of the pipeline, for example a valve.
Shortly after its introduction, the gas bubble 6 reaches the speed of the liquid medium. It flows in the direction of the arrow 7 through the first ultrasonic barrier formed by the transmitting and receiving heads 3 and 4, whereby the ultrasonic penetration of the pipeline is interrupted and the receiving head 4 switches on the timer 5 via the line 4/5.
The timer now runs down until the gas bubble reaches the second ultrasonic barrier formed by the transmitting and receiving heads 3 'and 4'. At this moment the ultrasonic radiation striking the receiving head 4 'is interrupted and the timer is switched off via the line 4' / 5. The timer is switched on and off by a trigger (relay), which is part of the timer, in such a way that only the front edge of the gas bubble is effective.
The flow rate can be calculated directly from the measured time, the distance between the two ultrasonic barriers and the clear pipe cross-section. It is also easily possible to calibrate the timer to the flow rate, whereby the timer can be designed so that the length of the measuring section and the clear pipe cross-section can be set as parameters. The measurement can be repeated in short time intervals, which means that an extremely precise measurement is possible due to an optionally automatic averaging.
The transmission and reception head of a barrier can be diametrically opposed to one another on the pipeline or be arranged on the same side of the pipeline. In the former case, the ultrasonic vibration emitted by the transmitter head and penetrating the liquid medium passes through the pipe wall opposite the transmitter head directly to the receiver head; in the second-mentioned case, the oscillation reflected from the opposite pipe inner wall surface reaches the receiving head located in the reflection area.
The device according to the invention can be constructed as a stationary or mobile device. In the case of mobile devices in particular, the ultrasonic heads 3, 4, 3 ', 4' can be fastened to the pipeline 1 in that the transmitting and receiving heads of a barrier are seated in a pipe-clamp-like element that can be optionally fastened to pipelines of different diameters, whereby the transmitter and receiver head come into contact with the pipe outer wall surface.
Such fastening elements are shown in FIGS. 2 to 4, where the following are again designated: the pipeline with 1 and the transmitting and receiving heads with 3, 4 and 3 ', 4'. The pipe clamps consist of two each
Brackets 10 and 11, each of which can be clamped together at both ends by means of clamping screws 13 over the pipeline 1, the transmitting and receiving heads 3, 4, 3 ', 4' sitting in the brackets 14 of the bracket coming into contact with the outer surface of the pipe 1 or be pressed against them.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the transmitting and receiving heads each lie in pairs in the same radial plane of the pipeline, each of these two pairs forming a closed structural unit 3, 4 or 3 ', 4'.
The direction of propagation of the ultrasonic waves is indicated by arrow lines in the figures. In Fig. 3, the transmission beam is labeled S and the reflection beam is labeled E (echo).
The measuring section is denoted by M in FIG. 2 and is generally about 50 to 200 mm, depending on the pipe cross section.
