Process for the Production of Phthaloeyanine Dyes The invention relates to a process for the production of dyes of the Phrohalocyannnrei'he, which are particularly suitable for dyeing paper. These dyes have -the formula
EMI0001.0006
in which Pc is the remainder of a phthalocyanine dye which may contain metal and / or which do not carry substituents which make water soluble,
Z O +. The radical of a quaternary ammonium compound or a hydrazinium compound, A O is a monovalent anion, m is 2 or 3 and n is 2, 3 or 4, and are produced by adding 1 mol of a compound of the formula
EMI0001.0023
wherein R is a monovalent organic or inorganic acid radical,
with n moles of a secondary or tertiary amine or a hydrazine disubstituted on at least one nitrogen atom and, if a secondary amine is used, a quaternizing agent.
The compounds of formula (II) used are made in a known manner from phthaloeyanines which, for. B.
Copper, nickel, iron, cobalt, zinc, aluminum or chromium as coordinatively bound metal and, for example, halogen atoms or nitro, cyano, mercapto or optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy,
Can contain aryl or amino groups as non-water-solubilizing substituents. Sulphonic acid groups and carboxyl groups are not suitable as substituents.
Particularly suitable acid residues (R) are -Cl, -O - 0C - CH3 and -04_S - CH3.
The secondary amines with which these phthalocyanine compounds are reacted are, for. B. dimethylamine or diethylamine or: generally low molecular weight dialkylamines are particularly suitable.
The alkyl radicals in the dialkylamines can carry the substituents and / or be linked to one another in a ring. B. to the piperidin ring. Trimethylamine and triethylamine can serve as tertiary amines with 3 alkyl radicals. In this case too, 2 alkyl radicals can be linked to one another, e.g. B.
im N-methylpiperidine. As cyclic amines with aroma tical character z. B. pyridine or quinoline ge is suitable. Particularly suitable hydrazines are the N, N-dialkyl'hydrazines, eg.
B. N, N, N'-trimethylhydrazine or N, N, N ', N'-tetramethylhydrazine, but especially N, N-dimethylhydrazine. Particularly suitable quaternizing agents are: B. the esters of strong mineral acids, especially dimethyl sulfate, esters of organic sulfonic acids, alkyl halides, z.
B. methyl chloride, methyl bromide ,, ethyl chloride or propyl chloride, and ethylene oxide.
The compounds of the formula (II) are preferably reacted with a tertiary amine or a hydrazine at temperatures between about 0 and 80 ° C. and in particular at room temperature.
An excess of the amine or hydrazine, an organic solvent and / or water can serve as the reaction medium. A compound of the formula (1.I) can also be reacted with a secondary amine under the same conditions. In this case it is advisable to add an acid-binding agent.
In the case of the quaternizing reaction, either an excess of the quaternizing agent or an inert organic solvent or water is used as the reaction medium, a buffer compound preferably being added and heated. If ethylene oxide is used as a quaternizing agent,
the reaction is first carried out at temperatures up to room temperature and only heated to about 40 ° C. towards the end of the reaction. The quaternary ammonium base obtained in this way can be converted into the quaternary salt by reaction with an organic or inorganic acid.
The resulting dyes of the formula (I) can be separated off by precipitation with a water-miscible solvent. They are readily soluble in water and are particularly suitable for dyeing unsized or sized paper in blue tones. They are used in amounts of about 0.001 to 3 ö, based on: the weight of the finished paper. It is not necessary to fix them on the paper using special measures.
