Description
Fig. 1 das Herstellungsverfahren veranschaulicht und

Process for the production of a foam "insulation shell"
The invention relates to a method for producing a foam insulation shell. Such shells can be used for the insulation of cables.
The production of these insulating shells is currently z. B. in the deformation process, which is labor-intensive and requires expensive shapes. Such insulating shells have also been produced by machining them out of a block of foam, but with about 40% loss of material.
According to the method according to the invention, however, a foam insulation shell is produced in that a foamable plastic is sprayed onto a support tube produced by continuously helical winding of at least two strips and cured and the foam tube continuously produced in this way is cut into insulation shells. In this way, an insulating shell of good dimensional stability and compressive strength can be obtained in a simple manner and without loss of material.
The inventive method is explained below with reference to the drawing, for example, in which
Fig. 1 illustrates the manufacturing process and
Fig. 2 shows an insulating shell produced by the method.
In Fig. 1, 1 denotes a stationary mandrel on which a z. B. consisting of cardboard tape 2 is wound up helically to form a tube by means of a not shown, known feed belt. A second tape 3 is wound onto the first tape 2 offset in the same way and glued to it so that it covers its edges. The result is a continuously rotating and forward moving carrier tube 4, onto which foamable plastic 6 is sprayed through a nozzle 5, which is foamed and hardened during the further rotation and displacement of the tube 4, so that a foam tube is created that is supported by rollers 7 is.
The surface of this pipe can then be machined or coated. The tube is then cut lengthwise into pieces and divided into two halves, so that the finished foam insulation shells shown in FIG. 2 are produced, which have an inner cardboard part 4 and an outer foam part 6.
