Process for the production of ammonium nitric explosives The invention relates to a process for the production of ammonium nitric explosives, which contain solid, fine-grained ammonium nitrate, nitrated carbohydrates and nitric acid esters of the polyhydric alcohols, by incorporating the solid, non-gelatinizing components in a mass gelatinized with methyl alcohol, after which the Methyl alcohol evaporates and the explosive is brought into fine-grained form.
The known ammonium nitrate explosives generally contain more than 50% ammonium nitrate, flammable organic constituents, as well as nitroglycerin or aromatic nitro compounds for sensitization, e.g. B. trinitrotoluene or possibly aluminum powder. These known ammonium explosives can only be initiated at low density by the usual mining explosives.
The common densities are between 0.85 and 1.1, and rarely above 1.05. As a result, the effect of the one and a half times as heavy and moreover already energetic dynamite is never achieved. The effect or the explosiveness of military explosives, such as trinitrotoluene, picric acid, tetryl, hexogen, etc., cannot even come close to being achieved with these ammonium nitrate explosives.
The invention relates to a method according to which ammonium nitrate-containing, easily ignitable explosives with high density and high energy content and with a similar effect as dynamite can be produced with the usual mountain blasting capsules. Furthermore, highly explosive explosives can be generated according to the process, which have similar explosiveness and effects such as trinitrotoluene, tetryl, hexogen, etc.
In addition, the explosives produced according to the invention can be produced much cheaper than the aforementioned explosives.
The inventive method for the production of ammonium nitrate explosives, which contain solid, fine-grain ammonium nitrate, nitrated carbohydrates and nitric acid esters of the polyhydric alcohols, by incorporating the solid, non-gelatinizing components into a mass gelatinized with methyl alcohol, after which the methyl alcohol evaporates and the explosives in fine-grained form is characterized by
that a powder mass consisting of nitrated carbohydrates and nitric acid esters of the polyhydric alcohols is used to produce the gelatinized mass.
In addition to fine-grain ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and / or aluminum powder can optionally be added to produce the explosive. The fine-grained explosives can optionally be pressed into compacts. If the explosive brought into fine-grained form is pressed into compacts, it is advisable to use a density of 1.1, advantageously a density of 1.5 or even higher.
It is advisable to use a fine-grain ammonium nitrate with a maximum sieve fineness of DIN 50, i.e. one that still passes through a sieve with a mesh size of at most 0.120 mm. For the purpose of easier and better processing, the surface of the ammonium nitrate can be moistened with a smaller amount, expediently less than 1 percent by weight, of an oily substance - advantageously mineral oil - and incorporated into the gelatin in this way.
The explosive produced by the process according to the invention expediently contains components known per se, especially aluminum powder, in a composition corresponding to the weakly positive oxygen balance. Nitrocellulose and / or nitro starch can be used as nitrated carbohydrates.
It was found that by increasing the energy content of the powder mass used, not only the explosive effect but also the initiation ability can be increased. The explosiveness and initiating ability is generally also increased by the higher concentration of the powder mass used. In view of the above and taking into account a weakly positive oxygen balance, explosives can be produced which are easily ignitable even when pressed up to 1.6 density. The lower limit of the incorporated nitrocellulose or
Powder mass is expediently about 10 0 (0. From those explosives which are in the range of the lower limit, compacts can be produced which are suitable to replace dynamite. The upper limit of the powder mass used is expediently determined by the heat of combustion of the powder mass and the oxygen balance fixed. To replace the dynamite, for example
Such explosives are used, which 10-30 percent by weight of a powder mass of 1150-1200, advantageously of about 1170 calories of heat of combustion, 77-64 percent by weight ammonium nitrate, fine aluminum powder in a required to achieve a weakly positive oxygen balance Amount of 5.5-13.0 percent by weight, and are pressed into compacts of 1.4-1.55 density.
To replace the known high-risk and high-energy explosives, compositions are suitable which 10-30 weight percent of a powder mass of 1200-1400, advantageously 1300 calories, 75-61.9 weight percent ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder in an amount necessary for the weakly positive oxygen balance 7.4-14.0 percent by weight, and are pressed into compacts with 1.5-1.6 density.
The fine-grained explosive produced according to the invention is a more explosive explosive than the ammonium nitrate explosives of similar density customary up to now, only with a cartridge to a density of <B> 1.05 </B>.
The explosive produced according to the invention is suitable for metalworking by explosion and for replacing highly explosive military explosives such as tetryl, nitropenta, hexogen.
The process according to the invention is illustrated in more detail by the following examples.
<I> Example 1 </I> 31 percent by weight powder mass of 930 calories produced without solvent (consisting of 41.5% nitrocellulose with 12.3% nitrogen content, 43.2% nitroglycerin, 8,
3% centrality I, i.e. H. symmetrical diethyl-diphenyl-carbamide, 2.0% diamylphthalic acid ester and 0.5 01o stearin) are gelatinized with 35 weight percent methyl alcohol and in a kneading machine with 69 weight percent ammonium nitrate of DIN 70 sieve fineness, which was previously with 0.3 weight percent spin Delöl was moistened, kneaded.
After a kneading time of one hour, the mixture is heated to 60 ° C. and kneaded again until it becomes fine-grained and dry, and then pressed.
The explosive produced in this way with a quantity of 100 g and 1.4 density, initiated with detonators No. 8, results in the explosive test according to Hess under five pieces of 4 mm, i.e. a total of 20 mm thick steel plates, a shortening of 22.0 mm of the 2 St, lead cylinders with a diameter of 40 mm and 30 mm each, a total of 60 mm height.
The crystalline trinitrotoluene used for comparison, consisting of three pellets, also with an amount of 100 g and 1.5 density, resulted in a shortening of the lead cylinders only 20.15 mm under similar circumstances.
<I> Example 2 </I> 76.6 percent by weight of ammonium nitrate of DIN 70 fineness moistened with 0.4 percent by weight of spindle oil is mixed with 13.0 percent by weight of aluminum powder of a similar fineness. This mixture was added the first 10 percent by weight of the powder mass produced without a solvent and then 12 percent by weight of a powder mass of 1170 calories gelatinized with methyl alcohol and kneaded in a kneading machine for one hour, then dried at 60 C and brought into fine-grained form.
The explosive test according to Hess was carried out with 100 g explosives of 1.4 density, using two pieces of 4 mm, so a total of 8 mm thick steel plates, otherwise under similar conditions as in Example 1. The shortening of the lead cylinders was 26.7 mm. The calculated heat of combustion of the explosive is around 1400 calories.
<I> Example 3 </I> 64.5 percent by weight of ammonium nitrate of DIN 70 sieve fineness and 5.5 percent by weight of aluminum powder of similar fineness are first mixed with 30 percent by weight of a non-gelatinized, i.e. no solvent-containing powder mass and then with 32 percent by weight of one gelatinized with methyl alcohol Mass of <B> 1170 </B> calories heat of combustion processed in the kneading machine.
The fine-grained explosive processed according to the preceding examples was then pressed into compacts of 1.57 density.
The Hess explosive test showed, under conditions similar to those in Example 1, a 25.5 mm shortening of the lead cylinder.
The hexogen used for comparison, granulated with 1 percent by weight silicone varnish and pressed to a density of 1.5, resulted in the Hess explosive test, under otherwise similar conditions, shortening the lead cylinder by 25.2 mm. The calculated heat of combustion of the explosive is around 1200 calories.
The Trauzl sample with 10 g of explosives resulted in a net 450 ml bulge at 15 C.
<I> Example 4 </I> If the heat of combustion of the explosive is increased further at the upper limit and an energy content of <B> 1300 </B> calories is reached or even exceeded, then the explosive's explosiveness can be increased even further.
The composition of such a high-explosive explosive is as follows:
EMI0002.0076
30 <SEP> weight percent <SEP> powder mass
<tb> 8 <SEP> weight percent <SEP> aluminum powder
<tb> 0.1 <SEP> percent by weight <SEP> spindle oil
<tb> 61.9 <SEP> percent by weight <SEP> ammonium nitrate The composition of the above powder mass is the following:
EMI0002.0077
20.3 <SEP> weight percent <SEP> nitroceliulose <SEP> with <SEP> 11.7 <SEP> 0/0
<tb> nitrogen content
<tb> 27.0 <SEP> weight percent <SEP> nitrocellulose <SEP> with. <SEP> 12.25 <SEP> 0; o

<tb> 0.15 <SEP> percent by weight <SEP> stearin
<tb> 52.15 <SEP> percent by weight <SEP> nitroglycerin This explosive was produced in the same way as indicated in the previous examples. The explosive test according to Hess shows, if the density is around 1.32, under similar conditions as in the previous examples, the lead cylinder is shortened by 28 mm.
The calculated heat of combustion is around 1330 calories.
