Cylindrical roller or needle bearing provided with a cage The present invention relates to a cylindrical roller or needle bearing provided with a cage formed by a wound strip whose end edges are free.
The cage having two free end edges, the centrifugal force tends to move these two edges apart and to deploy the cage radially, which can result in not only a displacement of the glass cage on the outer rolling path, but, in the event of a variation of speed, therefore of centrifugal force, alternating deformations separating and bringing together the two free edges.
There is no point in providing a large circumferential clearance between these lips, which would have the effect of reducing the space available for the rolling elements, so that, in the absence of such a circumferential clearance important, and in a cage whose outer surface could come into contact with the outer raceway, there could be unwanted noises at the intermittent contact points of the two edges corresponding to the speed decreases.
The invention makes it possible to eliminate this drawback and for this purpose the bearing according to this invention is characterized in that the thickness of the tread is constant and smaller than the diameter of the rolling elements, the shape of the sidewalls. The cell and the relative dimensions of the cells and the rolling elements being such that in the centrifugal direction the extreme radial position @de the deformable strip is a stop position in contact with the rolling elements themselves.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an open cylindrical cage along one of its generatrices. Figs. 2 and 3 are partial cross-sectional views of a bearing using the cage of FIG. 1, this cage being shown in two different radial positions.
Referring to fig. 1, 1 designates a cage for viewing cells 2, separated by bars 3, connected by terminal cords 4 and 5. This cage, cylindrical, is in one piece, but it is open following one of its generatrices which defines two free edges, or lips, la and lb.
In fig. 2 and 3, the cage 1 is shown in a needle bearing 6, comprising an outer raceway 7 and an inner raceway 8. The bearing has only been shown in the region adjacent to the free edges of the cage 1, that is to say where the deformation of the cage is maximum under the action of centrifugal force.
The conformation of the sides 10 of the cells 2 and the dimensions of the latter are, relative to the diameter of the needles, such that the radial displacement, and / or the radial deformation of the cage under the effect of centrifugal force are limited by l 'bearing of the cage on the rollers or needles, before the outer surface 9 of the cage can come into contact with the outer raceway 7 or its extensions.
The sides 10 of the cells are rectilinear, but converge towards the axis of the bearing, so that the width d of the cell inward is smaller than the diameter 2r of the roller or needle. Under these conditions when the cage 1 undergoes an outward deformation under the effect of the centrifugal force, its converging sides take the position 10 ', tangentially to the roller or needle 6, while the outer surface 9' is maintained at an appropriate distance from the raceway 7 (fig. 3).
Like the cage segments of Swiss patent NI 393844, the single strip constituting the cage of the described rolling bearing is the result of the bending of a punched flat strip. This bending could moreover apply the two free edges of the strip in contact with each other under a slight tension.
