Heated steering wheel for vehicles The present invention relates to a heated steering wheel, which is intended to help the driver, especially the motorist, who is very uncomfortable in winter with the removal of body heat from the hands through the cold steering wheel and thus the freezing in the hands.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that a resistance wire is built into the steering wheel as a heat source, which is connected to ground at one end and the other end @ through an insulated cable to the other pole of the main circuit, in which the battery and the Dynamo is connected.
This type of heating of the steering wheel has the advantage over known proposals of rapid heating of the steering wheel, which is independent of the warm air heating that only becomes effective while driving.
In the drawing, an example Ausfüh approximate form of the subject invention is shown, namely: Fig. 1, the steering wheel provided with the electrical resistance heating and Fig. 2 is a partial view of the steering column with jacket tube, partially in section.
In the illustrated embodiment of the heiz ble steering wheel, an annular groove 2 is turned on the underside of the wheel body 1, which is filled with a non-combustible plastic compound 3, such as cold metal. In this mass 3, a resistance wire 4 is embedded, which has a diameter of approximately 0.75 mm and a power value of approximately 55 A. The resistance wire 4 is divided up into two semi-arcs, the ends of which are joined together on the one hand by a clamp 5 and on the other hand by a clamp 6.
The terminal 5 is connected to ground by a piece of wire 7, while an insulated cable 8 is connected to the terminal 6. The latter is inserted through an opening 9 of the steering wheel hub 10 into the cavity 11 of the steering column 12 and connected to a copper ring 13 which is attached to the steering column 12 with an insulating layer 13 '.
The soldered connection point 15 ′, which connects the wire 8 to the copper ring 13, lies in a bore 14 in the steering rod 12, which electrically isolates the soldered connection point 15 from the ground of the steering column 12.
The copper ring 13 is a carbon brush 16, which is screwed with an electrically insulating threaded sleeve 17 made of plastic into a threaded hole 18 of the steering column 12 surrounding jacket tube 19. The plastic sleeve 17 allows a retensioning of the carbon brush 16. 20 is: a line connected to the carbon brush 16 and insulated to the positive pole of the battery or dynamo, which is guided via a push button switch 21 arranged on the dashboard. With the push button switch. 21 the steering wheel heating can be switched on or off as required.
Tests have shown that already 30 seconds after switching on the switch 21, the steering wheel is warm.
The temperature of the steering wheel can be regulated by a thermostat, e.g. B. in such a way that the power supply is automatically switched off when the room temperature has reached a certain level.
The wheel body 1 can also have a metal tube, expediently made of copper, as a core. In this case, current-insulating, heat-resistant beads made of porcelain, glass or plastic are arranged on the resistance wire.
