Method and device for producing expanded clay The invention relates to a method and a device for producing expanded clay by thermal preparation of the raw material in a grate preheater and subsequent treatment in a rotary kiln. The exhaust gases of the rotary kiln are sucked together with additionally supplied hot gases in countercurrent to the material through the grate preheater, in particular from top to bottom through a layer of material spread out on a traveling grate.
In the production of expanded clay using a grate preheater and a rotary kiln, the conditions are different from those in the production of cement. In particular, a relatively high heat demand in the grate preheater then occurs, which can be significantly higher than the heat demand in the rotary kiln. It is also an advantage if the temperature of the goods can be arbitrarily influenced in individual sections when they are being prepared on the grate.
Furthermore, it can be useful not to treat the raw material and the returned material in two layers lying directly on top of one another in the known return of material, but rather to keep them separate from one another because of the temperature differences occurring in particular at the start of the grate.
According to the invention, the present task is achieved in that part of the gases sucked through the grate preheater is diverted, introduced into the rotary kiln at the material outlet end, heated again and fed back to the grate preheater as an additional low-oxygen gas. This significantly increases the amount of heat and gas that are available in the grate preheater. In addition, the oxygen content of the gases is reduced in the way that is desired for the extraction of expanded clay.
For the same purpose, the grate preheater can be equipped with an additional burner that also supplies hot, low-oxygen gases. In addition to the mentioned rotary kiln, a smaller rotary kiln can also be provided in which expanded clay with a smaller grain size is obtained. The exhaust gases from this rotary furnace can also be fed to the grate preheater as additional heat carriers.
It is known to cover the hottest zone by radiation shields when connecting a grate preheater in front of a rotary kiln and to suck in heated air from the inter mediate space between the radiation shields and the rotary kiln and to feed it to the grate preheater. In the case of a grate preheater, it is also known to introduce exhaust air from a cooler connected downstream of the rotary kiln in the grate preheater into the space between a fresh material hopper and a return material feed hopper. In both cases, the grate preheater can only be supplied with heat that is low in relation to its heat requirement.
In addition, the supply of hot air in expanded clay production is often undesirable because of its oxygen content.
According to the invention, a grate preheater, which is operated with a double crop feed and is divided into several separately evacuated zones, is proposed for carrying out the method, in which the zone of the traveling grate which is closest to the rotary kiln passes through a gas return line with a fan with the crop outlet of the rotary kiln is connected.
The traveling grate can be partially loaded with a single layer of material and partially operated with what is known as double material guidance, whereby a hopper serving to feed returned material can be displaced in the longitudinal direction of the traveling grate, so that only in the zone closest to the rotary kiln double te crop management is available. Finally, a returned material layer and a raw material layer can be spatially separated from each other by treating the returned material layer on a stepped grate which is arranged above the traveling grate in the grate preheater housing and is also divided into several zones.
It is also possible to divide the preheating area into two separate traveling grids. In this way, an undesirably large heat exchange between layers of fresh material and returned material can be avoided and the thermal treatment can be adapted to all conditions in the production of expanded clay.
The invention is tert erläu below with reference to embodiments of a device, which are shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows a system with partially double crop management, Fig. 2 shows a system with a traveling grate and a step grate.
In the housing 1 of a grate preheater 2 there is a traveling grate 3 which is loaded from a fresh material feed hopper 4 with a simple layer 5 of raw material. Between the ends of the traveling grate 3 is a feed hopper 6 for returned goods, which may be moved along the traveling grate who can. From this feed hopper 6, the second part of the traveling grate 3 is charged with a layer 7 of returned material which lies directly on the material layer 5. The lower layer 5 is fed from the end of the Wan derrostes 3 from the foot of an elevator 8, which lifts the returned material into the feed hopper 6.
The upper layer 7 is peeled abge in a known manner and fed to a rotary kiln 9.
The rotary kiln 9 has a burner 10 at the lower end, and its exhaust gases are transferred to the grate preheater 2 according to arrow 11. Below the traveling grate 3 are the mouths of several From suction lines 12, which can be controlled by throttle valves 13 ge. This suction ent are on the traveling grate 3, for example, three different zones I, 1I, 11I ver, which can be separated from each other by partition walls if necessary.
With different levels of suction in the three zones, the temperature in individual sections of the grate can be influenced as required for the production of expanded clay. Zone III, which is closest to rotary kiln 9, is connected to its burner end by a line 14 which is equipped with a fan 15 and is used for gas recirculation.
The recirculated gases are reheated by means of the burner 10 and then passed with the rotary kiln exhaust gases to the grate preheater, so that additional heat is supplied to it by means of low-oxygen gases.
A chimney 16 is also connected to the housing 1 of the grate preheater 2, through which excess exhaust gases are discharged, but through which fresh air can also be supplied if necessary. A channel 17 above the cool end of the traveling grate 3 can also be used if the supply of fresh air. The return feed hopper 6 can, if necessary, be penetrated transversely by the exhaust gas flows leading to the suction zones I and II.
If this return material hopper 6 is arranged so far away from the fresh material feed hopper 4, contact between the two types of goods is avoided in the cool initial zone of the traveling grate in which the temperature difference between return material and fresh material is greatest. The grate preheater 2 can also be equipped with an additional burner 18 which is attached to the housing 1 by means of a chamber 19.
Under certain circumstances, instead of the additional burner 18 or in addition to it, another additional heat source is tapped for the grate preheater 2. It may be advantageous to provide a smaller rotary furnace, which is not shown in the drawing, in addition to the rotary kiln 9 for the production of normal expanded clay. The smaller rotary kiln is only intended to be used for the production of expanded clay of the smallest grain size and can be operated in parallel with the other rotary kiln. If the exhaust gases from this smaller rotary kiln are fed to the grate preheater 2, this also makes a contribution to its heat requirement, the oxygen content being kept low as desired.
According to Fig. 2, raw material and returned material are thermally treated on different conveying means in order to completely avoid the exchange of heat between the upper and lower layers when the goods are carried twice. This enables a separate and different treatment of a raw material layer and a back material layer, taking into account their temperature differences. In addition, by moving grate bars in a designated stair grate, the treated granules can be loosened and mixed.
Also according to Fig. 2, the traveling grate 3, which is available in its entire length for a layer 5 of raw material, is divided into different zones I, 1I, III as a result of the action of the different opening suction lines 12. As a result, the temperature conditions can be adapted to the operating conditions that occur. The pretreated good arrives here from the end of the traveling grate 3 in the foot of the elevator 8 and through it to a funnel 26, which is located at the top of a staircase 25 grate.
The return material is traversed in a layer 27 on the step grating 25 by the exhaust gases sucked in in the direction of arrow 11 and falls from the lower end of the step grating 25 into the higher end of the rotary kiln 9.
In this case, too, part of the gases sucked in through the traveling grate 3, through its zone III, is returned to the rotary kiln 9 by means of a fan 15 through a pipe 15 and opens in the vicinity of the burner 10, so that larger gas and heat quantities are available for transfer to the grate preheater. Here, too, this can instead or in addition be provided with an additional burner 18 in order to provide the necessary heat in the preheater part of the system without increasing the oxygen content of the gases.
In addition to the rotary kiln 9, a smaller rotary kiln can also be arranged here, the exhaust gases of which are used for additional heating of the grate preheater 2.
A chimney 16 over the step grate 25 and a fresh air duct 17 over the traveling grate 3 have the same tasks as in the arrangement according to Fig. 1. The space above the step grate 25 is, however, connected by a bypass channel 28 with the gas space above the traveling grate 3, see above that an adjustable portion of gases can be guided directly to the material layer 5 by bypassing the step grating 25, that is to say without acting on the returned material layer 27. .
It is possible to divide the grate preheater instead of a traveling grate and a stepped grate into two traveling grids connected one behind the other, to feed these ver different exhaust gas flows and to suck up zones of the individual grids to different degrees. Of course, it is also possible, in a manner known per se, to use the entire length of a traveling grate for guiding double the material and then to supply the grate preheater with additional heat by means of low-oxygen gases in the manner described.
