Method for processing yarn into bulky yarn The invention relates to a method for processing yarn into bulky yarn. This method is applicable to the usual thermoplastic yarns, e.g. B. polyamide yarns, polyester yarns and the like, applicable to.
US Pat. No. 3,188,713 discloses a device for processing multifilament yarn, in particular from acetyl cellulose and with a C-shaped cross section, to form bulky yarn. In this device, the yarn is crimped and felted in that it is passed through a venturi tube together with a stream of steam.
In its divergent output part, as a result of the decrease in the flow speed of the steam in the presence of the yarn, a vortex flow arises in which the individual filaments of the yarn are detached from each other and come into contact with the steam on all sides.
As the steam speed decreases and the filaments begin to pucker, the yarn relaxes and the filaments begin to tangle. The working conditions in the venturi tube are expressly selected so that the steam does not condense in the venturi tube. This is justified by
that the presence of water droplets would worsen the curling effect. The steam emerging from the venturi tube is drawn off and the yarn emerging from the venturi tube is drawn off at right angles to the exit direction at a speed that is lower than the feed speed to the venturi tube.
For voluminous yarns obtained with this device, 15 and 16% actual loft as well as 19.2 and 32% xstretcha are mentioned.
A polypropylene yarn intended for carpets had 1200 denier before treatment with a variant of this device and 1600 denier after treatment, ie 133% of its original weight per unit length.
US Pat. No. 3,127,729 describes a method for processing yarn into voluminous yarn, in which the yarn runs through a nozzle to which compressed air is supplied. It is assumed that electrostatic charges occur, which promote the loosening of the yarn, and that when atmospheric air is used, its moisture prevents or makes it difficult for such charges to arise.
Therefore, according to this patent specification, dry air or air with low humidity (30% relative humidity at over 32 C, but below the plasticizing temperature of the yarn material) is used. According to this patent, too, condensation of the steam must be avoided because the water would moisten the yarn and prevent the loosening of the yarn, which is necessary for the formation of loops and felting of the yarn.
A bulky acetate yarn made by this method and intended for carpets had 118.1% of its original weight per unit length.
A device for treating yarn made of natural fibers or synthetic fiber material is known from US Pat. No. 2,664,010, in which the yarn passes through a nozzle into a chamber and, at the same time, steam is used to treat the yarn at the point where the yarn enters the Chamber is injected. When leaving the chamber, the yarn runs and the steam flows through a venturi tube and then through an expansion chamber. This creates a steam vortex in which the adhering fibers of the yarn separate from each other before the yarn leaves the chamber through a narrow nozzle.
The steam is discharged at another point in the chamber. Neither the crimping of yarn with this device nor steam condensation in the expansion chamber is provided.
According to the prior art set out above, when crimping yarn (US Pat. Nos. 3 188 713 and 3 127 729) the working conditions were always expressly chosen so that the steam, when it expands, is in the presence of the yarn, the crimping effect occurs, does not condense, and the similar yarn treatment not intended for crimping (USA Pat. No. 2,664,010) does not provide for condensation of the steam.
In contrast to this prior art, according to the method according to the invention, the yarn to be processed is drawn by means of a steam nozzle through a passage into an expansion chamber which is kept under low pressure and the passage is kept at such a temperature that the steam condenses.
The yarn can run through a steam chamber just in front of the steam nozzle, so that no air enters the nozzle with the yarn. This steam chamber can be kept under positive pressure.
According to the process according to the invention, crimped, voluminous yarn can be obtained which has about 120 to 150% of its original weight per unit length of 5 to 10% crimp elongation and less than 3 10% shrinkage. Of course, this yarn has no torque. It is used for hand and machine knitting and weaving of outerwear, e.g. B. sweaters, clothes and the like.
In the following, an embodiment of the method according to the invention is described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of a yarn processing machine with a device for implementing the method.
FIG. 2 is a partially sectioned view of the nozzle of the device of FIG. 1.
In the machine shown, the drawn or drawn yarn 12 to be processed into voluminous yarn is drawn off from a package 34 by means of feed rollers 33 and fed to the device 11 in which the yarn 12 is processed into voluminous yarn.
The yarn runs through an inlet 22 into a thermally insulated chamber 21 which encloses a steam nozzle 14 and is open to a passage 13 which leads into an expansion chamber 15. The steam chamber 21 is filled with steam with a slight excess pressure. For this purpose, the steam chamber 21 is connected by a throttled steam pipe 23 to a pipe 24 which feeds the steam nozzle 14 with steam from a steam generator 25. The treatment temperature for processing polyester yarn is around 190 to 200 C.
The yarn is drawn by means of the steam nozzle 14 through the passage 13 into the expansion chamber 15, into which the steam from the passage 13 also flows. The chamber 15 has an outlet 16 for the yarn and an outlet 17 for the condensed water of the steam. In the passage 13 cooling pipes 13a are arranged, which with a liquid coolant, for. B. cold water, ge are fed to condense the steam when it flows through the passage 13.
The expansion chamber 15 also has an outlet 18 which is connected to a vacuum pump 19 to keep the chamber 15 under low pressure from ',.'., To @ V4 atm. The steam entering the chamber 15 condenses on the walls of the chamber 15, which are kept cold, or it is made to condense (in a manner not shown) by water injected or sprayed into the interior of the chamber 15.
As FIG. 2 shows in detail, the steam nozzle 14 has an annular orifice 26 which encloses a passage 27 for the yarn 12, and it has an expediently conical body 28 on the outside, which has an annular steam hood 29 which widen on its Arranged at the end and connected to the conduit pipe 24. Passages 31 connect the steam hood with the interior of the conical body 28. In the body 28, a smaller conical body 32 is screwed, which has the passage 27.
The inlet 22 to the steam chamber 21 (Fig. 1), the nozzle 14, the passage 13 and the outlet 16 are arranged in a vertical line with the outlet 16 upwards in the yarn processing machine. Feed rollers 35 pull the yarn from the device 11 from Einrich at a linear speed which is less than the speed at which the yarn 12 of the device 11 is fed. The speed at which the yarn runs through the device can be up to 1000 m per minute.
The machine has a heater 36 with which the bulky yarn which has left the exit 16 is heated in a state of controlled elongation. This elongation is determined by further conveyor rollers 37 which supply the treated yarn to winding means 38. Such further heating can dry the yarn from any remaining moisture and also fix it.
