Da bei der Reaktion grosse Mengen gasförmiger Nebenprodukte entstehen, ist es zweckmässig entweder ,das Reaktionsgemisch in (dünnen Schichten oder unter ständiger Bewegung zu erhitzen. Nach der erstgenannten Ausführungsform;
Je nach Wahl der Ausgangstoffe erhält man das ur- substituierte oder beispielsweise ein halogensubstituier- tes Kupferphthaloeyanin. Die Ausbeuten sind bedeutend höher als beim herkömmlichen Backverfahren und die erhaltenen Produkte entsprechen bezüglich Reinheit den üblichen;
Process for the production of copper phthalocyanines One of the most important processes for the production; of copper phthalocyanines consists in heating phthalic anhydride or phthalimide with a copper salt such as copper chloride and an amount of urea sufficient to form a melt. By adding a molybdate:
As a catalyst, the yield of this process can be increased considerably, but it is always below 70% based on the phthalic anhydride used. If this so-called.
Baking process has acquired great technical importance despite this unsatisfactory yield, this is due to the simplicity of the equipment required.
Much higher yields can be achieved if the reaction is carried out in an organic solvent. However, the additional yield achieved is made up for by substantial additional costs due to expensive equipment and / or: necessary regeneration of large amounts of solvent.
It has been found that by heating a phthalic anhydride, a copper compound and urea in the presence of a molybdate, copper phthalocyanine is obtained in very good yield if 10 to 60% by weight (l / o, based on the total amount of reactants of a high-boiling indifferent organic solvent used.
In addition to unsubstituted phthalic anhydride, substituted phthalic anhydrides, in particular halogenated phthalic anhydrides, for example the anhydrides of 4-chloro-3,6-dichloro or 3,4-dichlorophthalic acid, can also be used as starting materials,
Consideration. Copper salts, such as copper sulfate or the chlorides of copper, in particular copper (II) chloride, or oxides of copper, in particular copper (I) oxide, are used as the copper compound. On 4 moles,
of the phthalic anhydride, about 1 mole of the copper compound is preferably used. It is advisable to use at least 1 part of urea for 1 part of the phthalic anhydride, the best results are achieved if:
1.5 to 2 parts of urea are used for 1 part of the phthalic anhydride. The molybdate, preferably ammonium molybdate, serving as catalyst, is expediently used in amounts of 0,
1 to 5% by weight based on the total amount of the reactants used. Optionally, other catalysts, such as. B. boric acid who used the.
Nitrobenzene or trichlorobenzene, alkylated benzenes, for example dodecylbenzenes, naphthalene, methylnaphthalene, or anthracene are preferred as high-boiling inert solvents. The amount of solvent should be 10 to 60 wt. 1 / a of the total amount of the reactants.
Since the reaction produces large amounts of gaseous by-products, it is appropriate either to heat the reaction mixture in thin layers or with constant movement. According to the first-mentioned embodiment;
In the so-called baking process, the mixture of the reactants with the solvent is expediently applied to a solid base, for example on a baking tray, expediently made of stainless steel and heated in the oven. The reaction temperature is advantageously between 160 and 290, in particular between 180 and 220.
Since most of the solvent gradually evaporates during the reaction, it has proven to be advantageous, in order to avoid solvent losses, to use a reaction vessel which is provided with a cooler which allows
to condense the solvent vapors outside the reaction vessel.
The second mentioned embodiment of the method according to the invention is expediently carried out in a paddle dryer. Here copper oxides, in particular copper oxide, prove to be particularly suitable as copper donors, and naphthalene, methylnaphthalene or high-boiling alkylbenzenes are preferably used as solvents.
The reaction temperature is expediently between 180 and 220.
The reaction is usually frozen after a few hours. The reaction mixture is worked up in a customary manner by comminuting the reaction mass and extracting it with dilute aqueous acid and water.
Depending on the choice of starting materials, the primary or, for example, halogen-substituted copper phthaloeyanine is obtained. The yields are significantly higher than in the conventional baking process and the products obtained correspond to the usual ones in terms of purity;
Requirements and can after one of the usual milling or reprecipitation processes, for example by reprecipitation from conc. Sulfuric acid can be converted into a form suitable for pigment application.
In the examples below, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 is ground for 4 hours, 2680 parts of urea, 319 parts of copper chloride and 25 parts of ammonium molybdate, then 1680 parts of phthalic anhydride and grinds again for 80 minutes, then the mixture is spread on a Baking tray. Made of stainless steel,
hissed the Genüsch with 1700 parts of nitrobenzene and heated the whole thing for 8 hours in an oven at an internal temperature of 195. Then it is allowed to cool, the mass is crushed and heated in 8000 parts of water for half an hour,
Containing 130 to 140 parts of 34% hydrochloric acid, then it is filtered (the filtrate should be Congo acidic), washed with 30,000 parts of hot water and dried at 105 for: 24 hours.
1384 to 1418 parts of copper phthalocyanine are obtained, which corresponds to a theoretical yield of 84.5 to 86.6%.
If you use the same parts of trichlonbenzene instead of nitrobenzene, otherwise you work under the same conditions, you get 1,466 parts of copper phthalocyanine.
Example 2 222 parts of phthalic anhydride, 360 parts of urea, 29 parts of copper (I) oxide, 215 parts of sodium molybdate and 60 parts of naphthalene are placed in a stainless steel paddle dryer provided with a riser pipe. The apparatus is gradually heated to a temperature of 210 over the course of 11 hours.
Within a further 2 hours, the temperature is increased to 250 and the temperature is kept at this level for 11/2 hours. Then the ascending pipe @ is replaced by a descending pipe with a vacuum seal and, with the stirrer switched off, the main amount of naphthalene is replaced under slowly falling pressure
distilled off. 40 parts of naphthalene were recovered. The heating is then switched off or the paddle dryer is ventilated and left with stirring.
The copper phthalocyanine contaminated with acid-soluble by-products is. now unloaded, crushed in a roller mill,
in 6000 parts of water containing 400 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid stirred at 95 to 100 and filtered hot. The filter cake is washed with hot water until
the washing water reacts neutrally and is dried at 110 .to 120. 198 to 203 parts of copper phthalocyanine with a purity of 95 to 97 0/0 are obtained. This corresponds to a yield of 88 to 90% of theory based on phthalic anhydride.
