Electromagnetic experimental device, utilizing the terrestrial magnetic field The invention relates to an electromagnetic experimental device, in which magnetic fields that come into operative connection with the geomagnetic field are generated. This experimental device is characterized by the fact that pole-changing electromagnetic needles are arranged above a floating body rotatably mounted in a liquid, so that when it is in the neutral zone, in coincidence with the geomagnetic axis, the floating body can be rotated with the needles .
In the drawing, an example of an embodiment of an experimental device according to the invention is shown in perspective.
1 designates a cylindrical vessel made of electrically insulating material, which has two half-ring electrodes 2 and 3 on its inner wall which are insulated from one another and are at different electrical potentials. These are connected via terminals 4, 5 to the poles of a direct current source, not shown.
The vessel 1 is so far with an electrically guide the liquid 6, z. B. with slightly acidified water, filled that the two half-ring electrodes 2, 3 are at least partially wetted by this.
In the middle of the bottom of the vessel 1, the fixed part of a Nadella gers 7 is provided in the same, which consists of a footplate 8 and a bearing sleeve 9 firmly connected to it. At the free end of the bearing sleeve 9, an annular bearing block 10 is expediently inserted.
A cylindrical float plate 11 floating on the liquid 6 in the vessel 1 has a hub 12 in its bottom center, which tapers downward outside the float plate 11 and at its lower free end with a bearing needle 13 protruding into the opening of the annular bearing block 10 is provided.
The needle bearing 7 thus enables the floating plate 11 floating on the liquid 6 to rotate easily in the vessel 1, its axis of rotation coinciding with the axis of symmetry of the vessel 1.
In the interior of the floating plate 11, the hub 12 has the shape of a cylinder 14 which is of such a length that its upper end protrudes beyond the edge of the floating plate 11. In this part of the hub 12 are two mutually perpendicular and to the axis of the hub 12. Holes provided; through each of which a needle 17 or 18 provided with a wire winding 13 or 16 is inserted so that it protrudes equally from the hub 12 on both sides.
An insulating sleeve is expediently provided between the wire winding 15 or 16 and the wall of the bore in order to avoid damage to the wire insulation when the needle 17 or 18 is inserted into the corresponding bore and to prevent a return to ground.
The length of the two needles 17 and 18 is dimensioned so that their free ends come to lie approximately above the center of the liquid ring present between the edge of the vessel 1 and the floating plate 11.
The two windings of each wire winding 15 and 16 are bent downward in such a way that they protrude into the liquid 6. In order to bewerkstel leagues, the free ends of the needles 17, 18 each have, for example, a vertically arranged hole lined with an insulating sleeve, through which the end of the wire winding is inserted. The downwardly bent wire winding ends have no insulation at their free ends protruding into the liquid 6 and form four current sensors 19 to 22.
Assuming that terminal 4 is connected to the positive and terminal 5 to the negative pole of a direct current source, a direct current flows from the positive pole via terminal 4, the left half-ring electrode 2, the liquid 6, the current sensor 19, the wire winding 15, the current sensor 20, the liquid 6, the current sensor 19, the wire winding 15, the current sensor 20, the liquid 6,
the right half-ring electrode 3 and the clamp 5 to the negative pole and causes the needle 17 z. B. is magnetized so that a magnetic north pole is created at its right end and a magnetic south pole at its left end.
Since the current sensors 21, 22 of the second needle 18 are currently in the neutral position between the two half-ring electrodes 2, 3 in the illustrated position of the needles 17, 18, current flows through the wire winding 16 of the needle 18 at the moment under consideration .
The experiment device described is now under the influence of the earth's magnetic field. In the position of use, it is ensured that the two half-ring electrodes 2,
3 certain neutral position comes to lie in the north-south direction of the geomagnetic field. This orientation of the experimenting device can be carried out using a compass and is expediently marked on a fixed base so that it can be adjusted later without losing time.
Since it is known that magnetic poles of the same name repel each other, a torque acts on the needle 17, so that it closes in a clockwise direction. tried to turn. As soon as the left current sensor 19 of the needle 17 passes through the rear neutral point between the two half-ring electrodes 2, 3,
the current direction is reversed in its wire winding 15, i.e. H. the previous south pole of this needle end becomes a north pole on which the earth's magnetic field now has a repulsive effect, d. H. this field generates a torque acting on the needle 17 in a clockwise direction.
If you look at the other end of the needle 17 and the conditions at the needle 18 in the same way, you can see that the geomagnetic field in interaction with the electromagnetically generated and per revolution of the floating plate 11 their polarity once changing poles at the free Needle ends a clockwise rotation of the floating plate 11 maintains.
The experimental device described can be used in schools to demonstrate magnetic effects, as a toy, as a pulse generator, etc.
When used as a pulse generator, the four free ends of the needles 17 and 18 can each be provided with a small mirror, for example. A bundle of light is directed towards a certain point of the circular path traversed by these mirrors, which when it hits one of the four mirrors moving past it on a light-sensitive element such as B. photocell, photoresistor, photodiode, phototransistor, etc., is reflected.
In this way, four pulses can be generated in an electrical circuit per revolution of the floating plate 11. If a larger number of pulses are to be generated per revolution of the floating plate 11, a whole ring of adjacent mirrors can be placed on the cylindrical surface of the hub 12 or on the outer cylindrical surface of the floating plate 11, which are vertical and all in a horizontal position Lie level, be arranged.
In this way it is possible to generate relatively high numbers of pulses despite the relatively slow rotary movement of the floating plate 11.
So that the sensitive needle bearing 7 is not damaged if there is no liquid in the vessel 1, support and locking means for the floating plate 11 are expediently provided in the vessel 1.
