EMI0001.0063
dans laquelle Rl et R.,, sont des alcoyles inférieurs;

Use of novel amphotheric surfactants for washing and cleaning The present invention relates to the use as washing and cleaning agents in general and in particular in. hair shampoos, new chemical surfactant compounds of an amphoteric character.
In the main patent, it has already been described asparagine derivatives, with surface activity, which can be used in shampoos, and which correspond to the following formula
EMI0001.0011
in which Rg and Rz are identical or different lower alkyl radicals which may contain up to 4 carbon atoms, Rl and R .., which may also form part of a heterocycle,
n "is an integer with a value of 2 to 5 and preferably 2 or 3, R denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue comprising from 10 to 18 carbon atoms and M denotes hydrogen, sodium, potassium or l 'am monium.
We have now found that if we simultaneously increased the number of. cationic groups (fatty agraines) and the number of anionic groups (carboxylic) in the above molecule, one could obtain particularly interesting products when used in the field of hair shampoos.
These new products have the following advantages in particular 1 - They have good surface-active properties which allow their use as shampoos for the hair and this in a very wide range of pH,. Able: to go from acidic pH to alkaline pH, for example example of pH 3-10.
In this case, in addition to their good detergent properties, they have the advantage of preventing the accumulation of electrostatic charges, giving the hair a soft feel and allowing easy disentangling.
2 - They are very well tolerated by the mucosa of 1 '# i1.
3 - They have very good thickening power, and therefore can be used as additives in aqueous solutions of other surfactants of cationic, anionic or nonionic character.
This last advantage is very appreciable in practice, because the thickening is achieved by substances which, themselves, can be used alone as shampoo, unlike the known products which are not at the same time thick sissants. and washing agents.
The new compounds used in accordance with the invention correspond to the general formula
EMI0001.0063
in which R1 and R R are lower alkyls;
identical or different which may contain up to 4 carbon atoms, Rg and R can also form part of a heterocycle, n is an integer from 2 to 5 and preferably from 2 to 3, R and R 'represent hydrocarbon residues aliphatic comprising from 10 to 18 carbon atoms, identical or different and M represents hydrogen, sodium, potassium or ammonium.
These new compounds can be prepared by condensation of maleic anhydride with the asparagine derivatives, described in the main patent, of formula
EMI0002.0008
in which R1 and R2 are the same or different lower alkyls which may contain up to 4 carbon atoms, R1 and R2 may also be part of one. heterocycle, n is an integer with a value of 2 to 5 and preferably 2 to 3,
R denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue containing 10 to 18 carbon atoms and M denotes sodium, potassium or ammonium; a fatty amine is then added to the double bond of the resulting product.
As the fatty amine, particularly suitable, there may be mentioned decylamine, dodecylamine, etc., as well as amines derived from fatty acids of coconut, tallow, etc.
These compounds can be used in the form of an aqueous solution of. Acidic, neutral or alkaline pH. The aforementioned compounds then function, as appropriate, either as cationic agents, or as anionic agents.
As already said above, the solutions. aqueous compounds. of the aforementioned formula (1) have a quite remarkable harmlessness vis-à-vis the mucous membrane of the eye. This harmlessness has been demonstrated by numerous tests. carried out by the holder, from which it is clear that the products.
used in accordance with the invention do not attack the cornea, as often happens with known cationic, anionic or nonionic products.
By way of comparison, it should be noted that the application of solutions of the same weight concentration and at the same pH, of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, on the eye of rabbits, gives lesions.
Preparation examples of the new compounds of formula (1) Example 1 Preparation of the disodium salt of N2- (alkyl, aspartyl) -asparagine of formula
EMI0002.0063

Has a solution of 1 mole of sodium salt of N - (N ', N'- diethylaminopropyl) -N2- (alkyl) -asparagine of the formula
EMI0002.0068
in which R = alkyl residue, derived from coconut fatty acids, in 300 cm3 of tert-butyolic alcohol, 1 mole of maleic anhydride is added at a temperature of 50 ° C. and with stirring. Everything is kept at this temperature for about 1 hour.
Allowed to return to room temperature and then neutralized with a concentrated aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. 1 mole of coconut fatty amine is then added and the mixture is heated with stirring for 12 hours at 650 C. The solution is evaporated in vacuo. The product obtained is practically colorless and can be reduced to the state of flakes by grinding.
The progress of the reaction is checked with the aid of the usual analytical determinations, carried out both on the intermediate products and on the final product. It was thus possible to determine the disappearance of the primary amine used, due to the fact that the final product only contains 2 to 4%.
