Device for measuring the fill level of a melt in molds of continuous casting plants
The invention relates to the mass of the fill level of a melt in oscillating molds of continuous casting plants by means of radioactive radiation.
By measuring the radiation intensity, which differs in size when air and melt penetrate, for example when arranging a surface radiator or a rod radiator extending over a larger area of the oscillating fill level, a total radiation can be measured that is proportional to the respective fill level .
It is known the. to arrange radioactive emitters acting as a transmitter and the associated receiver outside the mold space of an oscillating mold. However, since the mold moves relative to the bath level due to its oscillation, the intensity of the rays penetrating the liquid steel changes at the receiver. This change in intensity also causes a change in the measured value of the fill level in the mold.
This change in measured value causes. but there is an instability of the control elements of the continuous casting plant influenced by this measured value, for example the control elements for the metal supply.
The object of the invention is to design a device for measuring the fill level by means of radioactive rays that can also be used for oscillating molds. According to the invention, the receiver is assigned a yin compensator, which superimposes a mirror-image changing measured value on the measured value of the filling level in the mold that changes due to the mold oscillation and feeds the mean value formed from the two measured values to an evaluation device.
The compensation is obtained by moving the wiper of a potentiometer synchronously with the movement of the mold and the voltage value measured in the receiver, proportional to the radiation intensity, and the voltage value generated in the potentiometer being switched against each other in a compensator.
An embodiment of the invention in the form of a basic arrangement of the device is shown in the drawing.
1 with a pouring ladle is designated, from which melt 2 flows into an intermediate container 3 and further into a mold 4. The mold 4 is given an oscillating movement by means of a linkage 5 which rests with a roller 6 on the handle of an eccentric disk 9. The partially cut mold 4 has copper plates 7 as the inner jacket, which form the mold space for a strand 8 to be formed that receives the melt. The mold 4 has a chamber-like cavity 10 around the copper plates 7, through which cooling water flows to cool the copper plates 7. The cooling water flow through the cavity 10 takes place in the direction of the arrows from A to B.
The strand 8 which is formed inside the mold 4 by cooling the melt 2 is further cooled below the outlet opening of the mold 4 by a secondary cooling device 14 and held or lowered by pull-out rollers 11.
At the head of the mold 4, a receiver 13 (scintillation counter) and a rod-shaped radioactive emitter (isotope) are arranged as a transmitter 12 outside the mold space, but inside the housing of the mold 4, in order to monitor the fill level of the melt in the mold. The respective radiation intensity that reaches the receiver 13 is a measure of the mirror height of the melt 2 in the mold 4. By arranging the transmitter and receiver within the housing of the mold 4, near the copper plates 7, the intensity of the transmitter can be increased Turn it many times less, which considerably reduces the cost of protective measures.
As a result, the mold oscillation becomes .; Received a different radiation intensity on the Emp catcher side because the steel height, which changes relative to the mold, results in different radiation absorption. Around. To compensate for the resulting measured values, a potentiometer 15 is arranged, the resistance characteristics of which oppose the change in the measured value caused by the eccentric stroke. A grinder 16 is moved synchronously with the lifting movement of the roller 6 via a connection 17.
The voltage value and proportional to the radiation measured by the receiver 13. that of resistor 15 during. The voltage generated by the cyclical stroke movement are switched against one another in a compensator 18, and the mean value formed therefrom is shown in an evaluation device 19 in the form of a display device. This value is a measure of the height of the melt level in the mold 4 and can, if necessary, form a control value for the control device for the metal supply.
In the example shown, the transmitter and the receiver are arranged outside the mold space, but inside the cavity for cooling.
However, these two organs can also be attached outside the mold and, for example, be attached to the mold table.
The subject of the invention is not limited to the example shown. In order to avoid wear and tear on the potentiometer, the measured value to be superimposed can be generated with the aid of magnetic means which are not subject to wear. Such magnetic means are, for example, a one-tail immersed between two pole pieces synchronously with the oscillating movement.
